    Don't buy this.
They recently changed the flavour (again) and renamed it from 'maximum Cavity protection.'
I used this variant ever since I was a small kid which stayed the same, however, they managed to change ingredients 2 times in just over 1 year.
This last change has made me change toothpaste. It now dries out your mouth, you get reflux/heartburn after brushing, and your mouth doesn't even taste minty after brushing. Reviews seem to concur.

      What did you switch to?

At the moment Colgate total charcoal

        • +1

Thanks, i am trying to find something good too. Colgate totals active ingredient is banned in a few countries probably causes mouth cancer.

    • It doesnt taste minty. There is a minty flavour you can try. Lol

    • Do you rinse after brushing

      • I used to, but stopped after seeing dentists say that basically rinses off the fluoride in the toothpaste that is meant to protect against cavities. Now I just spit (thoroughly, to avoid swallowing it).

    • Yeah, it used to be amazing but at the same time, too amazing that I'd forget to brush because it felt like I already had. Now it feels like it just wears off after a few hours. I couldn't care less about the taste, I'm not eating it…

  • THanks OP bought 4.

  • This is my go to!

My kid's orthodontist tells me the only active ingredient that matters when it comes to cavity prevention is Sodium monofluorophosphate - aka
    Monofluorophosphate.

Find the cheapest toothpaste with that ingredient, brush twice a day, floss daily and avoid excessive sugar in your diet is all you need to do to keep your teeth free from cavities.

Everything else is marketing BS to fatten corporate profits of multinational coys like the Colgate - Palmolive company that has an annual turnover of just under US $20 Billion p.a.

    • isn't this a good deal then?

    • He's wrong (or pushing you a brand):

The formulation and fluoride concentration of toothpaste is diverse, with a variety of fluoride compounds used singly and in combination including sodium fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate, amine fluoride and stannous fluoride
      Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2019; 2019(3): CD007868.

And concentrations vary too, with there being "limited" evidence that higher concentrations promote higher protection, while certainly carrying higher risks.

      • He's trying to say a minimum not a maximum. Stannous is better but not yet cost-equal

        • He could've just said fluoride, but he made it a point to specify sodium monofluorophosphate.

@wisdomtooth: Agree, but I still think he was attempting to just say the minimum (eg cheapest form of fluoride).

            Also name checks out

      No ingredients list isn't good.

The dental community can't agree on what works. Like most professions it operates on decades old accepted wisdom, rarely questions things, rarely does proper long term studies (not funded by vested interests).

BTW - you'll also find, if ever you have a problem with a dentist, other dentists are only concerned with protecting their own and each others arses, rather than the clients teeth. Rather rinds of the church protecting kiddy fiddler priests.

  • It matches the price @ Chemist Warehouse.

  • i don't know if i should buy or not, getting mixed ozbargain reviews here.

what would be my cheap alternative?

this is off the Colgate website
https://www.colgate.com.au/products/toothpaste/colgate-cavit…, they have a new anonymous 5 star review now. when they changed the older maximum Cavity Protection over 1 year ago they didnt have good reviews about that as well (this is the packet that says maximum cavity protection and has a green recycle symbol on the actual tube, you can buy this from amazon still and some stores that have old stock). that one tasted more like the overseas branded one I once purchased and returned when the old regular flavour was around.
i actually rang colgate up shortly i purchased the new formula one few months ago and the Colgate customer service person confirmed what i wrote above about the 2 changes (in my above post), and that they received heaps of complains about the first change and again starting to get complaints about the second change.

again, ive used this toothpaste formula ever since i can remember. used to be the best formula.
