I wouldn't…at this point in time.
The cheapest OLED is $1279. Almost double the price of a standard 64GB LCD.
Hopefully, it'll get cheaper once more resellers get their hands on them.
It's not that much if you import it yourself though…. I'm just saying I'd be investigating that method personally
(I have this base model gen1 and love it, so any steam deck is better then no steam deck!)
Yup, me too. Double the price is rough, but if i buy this I'll always wonder if i should have bought the better one.
That sins like a terrible life. There is what’s a better anything
That goes both ways though. If you paid twice the price for the same thing essentially, you would always wonder if you wasted that money.
Could buy this now, and then grab an OLED one later on for cheaoer. You've already saved $600 toward it.
I bought both at the same time.
I think the LCD version is great and offers much better value for money. If this is your first Steam Deck, this and a 512 Gb MicroSD card are the way to go IMO.
If you have money to burn or are an idiot like me, go the OLED.
The battery life seems much better which would be my driver!
Are they more trustworthy though?
You posted it, dude. You tell us.
It's also not a great price. Regularly under $650.
Under 650 for an hour or so, until it's almost sold out and they jack the price.
I bought from US when they had 10% off and got it forwarded to Aus using Reship.
Worked out to be around $620aud.
But also could use this method to get OLED at something much less than double…
Nah.

It was $628 for days. I remember because I kept procrastinating about buying a 2nd one.
I was considering getting the OLED model, but I just can't justify paying almost double the price when the 64GB LCD is much cheaper. Got mine for around $650 and more than happy with it
But did you upgrade the storage? Coz that is added cost too.
Yeah I did, got 1TB SSD from aliexpress for around $100 making the total cost around $750. I didn't think it would be worth +$500 extra for the OLED (512GB model)
Oled version is actually cheaper though. The savings just need to filter back down to us plebs in Australia…
The +$500 is scalper prices.
@Circly: No it isn't. 550usd is 810 aud. Plus shipping and gst would be near $1000. Then add seller fees. Oled would be low 1000s conservatively.
Under 500 and I may bite just for tinkering
@ChiMot You'll be waiting a while before it hits sub $500 I think.
How about second hand? I don't mind. I really hope people are upgrading to Lenovo or rog from steam
Not sure many are bothering.
They are a little faster, but not enough to make it a worthy upgrade I feel, plus some benefits with SteamOS on the steam deck too.
Personally, I'll keep my steam deck until another generation of two of hand-held devices so it's a substantial upgrade.
Managed to snag the 1TB OLED at Haneda Airport when I was in Japan.
Beautiful screen and great device overall. Would recommend waiting for OLED or importing it if you can.
How much? I'm suprised you could get it at the airport? When is as there only a couple retailers sold it?
It was for a 2-week promotional period when the OLED first came out I believe. Reddit link about it
All up about $1k AUD. I wanted the 512GB which was about $850, but was sold out so I impulsively bought the 1TB instead.
Nice! Pretty good price for 1tb model.
lucky timing
Nah after oled announcement this should be sub $550
For those who are wanting high capacity, you're better off getting the lowest and upgrading yourself, as the step in prices is ridiculous.
Nope just because Kogan
I'd be trying your best to get the OLED version personally…..
