Been hunting for an Asus ax86u and found this. price seems ok but it's from Germany, <updated> per the comments the power is half so don't buy it if you need stronger signal.

is it because of plug, warranty or weaker signal?
half tx power output
Whoa. Thanks for the insight
Different bands too
Can't you just use a more powerful power plug?
It's the firmware, not the power

That's woefully out of date, it was bumped to 4000mW in 2017 I believe.
This router would sooner burn than get close to that in transmit power, but hey the law allows it.
Not sure if it’s applicable for this router. But for previous ASUS routers, you can update the firmware and change the region to AU to unlock the power. If ASUS firmware can’t do, then try Merlin firmware may be able to do.
Changing the region and using Merlin firmware is not a way around it. It's hard coded at the factory.
Merlin doesn't allow to change the region.

Non pro version but likely will be the same outcome of not being able to change region to Australia for the listed router.Thanks. I didn't know they are locked at hardware level. I remember (back in the day) ASUS routers only had US and international version, and Merlin firmware on international version allows users to select any region.
Out of curiosity, I found a discussion and it may work: https://gist.github.com/francoism90/3dede7973354d067c41bff5e…
Disclaimer: I'm not recommending anyone to buy the EU version.
I have a Xiaomi AX6000 that I am running on 4000
As per other comments, don't get this EU version. You sacrifice a lot of power. The Redmi AX6S would beat this in actual throughput for most devices and cost significantly less.
There are some caveats to the AX6S.
It don't do 11ax on 2.4ghz. (Although it does 256-qam if you have the patches)
VHT-160 does not work. (HE-160 works fine though)
Their stock firmware isn't going to do 160mhz or have AU power limits available. (There's Chinese and European firmware versions of the stock firmware, depends which locale you buy it in)
Xiaomi are also allergic to USB ports on their lower end routers now.
Also I may have melted part of the case soldering headers on for debug.Considering it supports Openwrt it's a well worth trade off. It's much cheaper too.
I use a usb-c to ethernet Adapter for tethering from mobile devices
don't buy EU routers
