  • Real bargain…

      why neg him?

    • +4

      Why the ellipsis?

  • This or G-Shock?

    • +1

      My G-Shock GW9400-3 that I’ve worn since 2013 hasn’t skipped a beat nor required a battery change.

I’m trying to find a smartwatch that would get that kind of longevity but it’ll never happen haha. That being said, the Instinct Solar looks like the closest thing maybe

      • +1

Instinct 2X can run on solar indefinitely in certain GPS modes and has more advanced features than G-Shock watches. But it's a big watch, about the size of your Rangeman and costs more than double of this price ($619, current sale price). I'm a big fan of G-Shock watches and have a few models myself. But sadly I have to say Casio has a long way to catch up if they can ever do that (judging by the models they released in recent years). Casio seems to focus on style and limited editions rather than features for the current market. May be they lack the technical prowess?

$529 (JB, Rebel etc) for the Instinct 2 Solar, only real difference is Garmin Pay and a couple of minor improvements.

    $277 = bargain

    • So this one doesn't have any payment capabilities?

    • +2

The 2 has a heap more activity profiles and does VO2 Max, HRV and some other metrics that are only in the premium garmin options. Battery life on the 2 is way better than the original, I get about double.

It also has the morning report, training status and training readiness which I find much better than body battery. There's smart trainer control too if you have one.

      • Not to mention higher resolution screen.. which at these low resolutions, can matter

    • Angry torch shining

      Sir how dare you

  • I cannot use this watch to make payment right?

    • -3

Nope, this is first gen, no payments.. Though why would you have [another] unprotected credit card…

      • Garmin pay lets you put a pin in front of the credit card.

        • +2

If you really want to use your Smart Watch for NFC/ contactless, then you might want to check this

          https://www.garmin.com/en-US/garminpay/banks/

I have a Citibank credit card and the app is not compatible.with any of the Garmin smart watches that have Garmin Pay (NAB credit cards for example would work though as per the compatibility info)

          Good luck

        • +2

"Garmin pay lets you put a pin in front of the credit card."

yes but it gets counter intuitive quickly when you try to enter the pin every time you pay on that tiny screen and if you make a mistake twice (which is easy trying to press tiny numbers) and you are locked out (you can unlock via the app but it's a 5 min process).
so there is a mode where you just enter it once and it allows you to swipe over and pay easily without pin. it expires when the watch leaves your wrist (uses heartrate sensor to detect ) or after 24 hours it just expires and you need to enter pin again.

I assume Den is referring to the fact while the watch is on your wrist someone could swipe the screen over to payment, then tap and pay with a receiver to swipe your money. I guess that really depends on you not noticing someone is swiping the screen on your watch though.

By living you increase the chances of dying…

      • +1

Chances? There's no probability in here.

He does have a point, best to live without ever coming into contact with sunlight, what could go wrong.

        • Yes there's.

      • -2

About two in three Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer before the age of 70.

Congrats, 10 of the people who gave you a plus will get a skin cancer. Should anyone worry about it or think of reducing chances? Nah, what a bs. If you'll die anyway why would you borther to live longer and healthier? Meh.

        • +2

If I've always spent 1 hour a day in the sun and then purchased the solar watch, my risk of skin cancer remains the same or is slightly less, as the watch is now covering part of my wrist/skin.

Could you provide evidence that by using solar you increase the chances to get skin cancer?

Was your comment implying that people will spend additional time in the sun with the sole purpose of charging the watch?

          • @MeagerDollarBucks: A solar watch does not increase your chance of melanoma.
Not using proper sunscreen & skin coverings on high UV days does.
That guy you're replying to is an odd one.

            • @Nivlac: This is psychology, if you have anything using solar you will use it. Otherwise why would you have it as the primary feature?

              • @Ozzster: "Otherwise why would you have it as the primary feature?"
I have a gym pass, i dont go to the gym.

                "This is psychology"
                Huh?

                Honestly mate, you're over thinking.

                • -4

@Nivlac: If you have too much money I'll be happy to help. Sharing is caring ;)

For those using things according to their purpose, this is the research showing that people doing jogging get more skin cancer than not doing it. While in general it's good against nearly any other types of cancer, people prefer jogging outside, get exposed to the sun, and in total the sun's negative effect overtakes jogging benefits specifically for skin cancer. Adding that this watch typically can be used for jogging outside, this is it.

                  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5812009/

Pretty good distribution that 66% of locals negged my first comment about going solar, and around the same 66% of Australians will get skin cancer by 70 years. They don't overthink, and die earlier. I am happy to be negged to extend my life by another 10 years and not go open to the sun too much.

                  • @Ozzster: Speaking cancer onto others.

Mate i stand by my statement,
                    you're an odd one.

                    • -1

@Nivlac: I am happy to be an odd 100-year-old elder rather than obvious 84yo senior who recklessly died of cancer that was easy to avoid. And I provided evidence that I'm right.

  • Wow.. great deal

  • Great price.

  • Awesome price and exactly what I was looking for!

  • I really want a reason to buy this but my 935 does a really good job for running and supposedly is better at that than the instinct. This would make a great watch for hiking but I am currently not doing any of that :(

    • +1

      Great gift for someone

  • +4

Price s up… Show is finished..

  • How is this compared to Garmin FR 55?

  • I might have taken the bait. Sale over.

    • Same, on the hunt for others now

  • Does this one do Golf GPS?

  • Show 374.15 for me..

  • Hasn't this deal been over for several hours?

  • How many days do you get from a full charge to 100% (estimated by the watch initially, and actual), with default settings? Cheers
