Damn! I made my purchase too quick. Been wamting to upgrade my system from the Yamaha RX-V6A 5.1.2 to something 5.1.4. Was tempted with Onkyo TX-NR7100 which is selling at $1499 at Audio Junction. But made a few online enquiry.
Westcoast Hifi recommended this Denon x3800h but it was around $2500, $1000 more than the Onkyo. Digital Cinema recommended the TX-RZ50, sayinh with my speakers, I might find the NR7100 struggles to reach the full potential of my speakers. But the RZ50 is $2699. The best they could do was $2550. Told them i wanted a similar discount with the NR7100. They checked around and said they could do the Pioneer VSX-LX505 for $2150. They said the LX505 actually has a higher RRP at $2799, and its basically the clone of the RZ50 as Onkyo owns Pioneer.
I got tempted and bought it……
Although I'm very happy with the sound quality of the LX505, i read most reviews that rated the X3800H better than the LX505. Felt I got rippes off.
Cheaper at Klapp.

Code "Boxing20" makes it $1999
I have this unit and enjoy it a lot.
Selby is also definitely a recommended business to buy from and they'd likely pricematch.I've had mine installed about a year now with 5.1.4 and I have been very happy with it!
I've been debating whether to get this or the Onkyo rz50 because the Onkyo includes Dirac live whereas denon is another $800 for the Dirac licence. But the Onkyo only has 3 40gbs HDMI 2.1 ports whereas the denon has 7.
3 is enough for both consoles and a gaming PC, it's really all you need.
If some forth category of device arrives in the future, then you can always grab an HDMI switch to convert one of your ports into more 👍
Yes I agree for now that is the case but my current AVR is 11 years old, its an item that should last 10 years and I expect to see 8K60 / 4K240 become a thing within the next 10 years so 6 full bandwidth 40gbps ports is a lot more futureproof.
Yeah I'm with you - but realistically you'll still only need to connect a Gaming PC and a PlayStation 6 and an XBox Series 743 ZX when we enter that world.
Switch might even be 1080p by then 😁
@Nom: Yeah i guess it's possible that HDMI 3.0 is out in the next 10 years too. Who knows. Maybe should at least wait for CES 2024 which is about 2 weeks away.
Is it worth getting this if you already have the Yamaha RX-V6A 5.1.2 and do not really need to upgrade to 5.1.4? I imagine video quality would be largely the same as the video is just passed through to the TV, but I don't know if audio quality will be noticeably better, in terms of DAC, amplifying and room correction.
Building a 7.2.4 system and considering this vs the Onkyo RZ-70. Thoughts?
It's $2k vs $4k but the Denon would need Dirac added ($500) and a stereo amp ($500) to get the 11 channels total. So around an extra $1k for the all in one unit, which also has extra power? Worth it?
