    Saw this really cheap.

    • What is wrong with "really cheap"?

      • People are neg bandits here mate, wouldn't worry about it.

  • Contrast ratio: 5000 : 1 - ? a bit low ?
Response time: 5ms : should 1-2ms be the norm nowdays ?

    • +2

yeah but the norm for a TV this size is usually around 7-800…

side note most panels are about that ratio anyway, they just have dynamic ratio ontop of that…

  • Anyone know what the EPG looks like on these Bauhn tv?

  • +6

Not sure about EPG, but my parents have a Bauhn LCD and IMHO the image quality just doesn't compare with the brand name LCDs.

    • +7

Bought the 46" last year for $599. Not sure if it is the same model but turning on, changing channels and navigating through the menu is very slow.

  • +2

It has a 6 star energy rating which is the best I've seen from Aldi to date.

  • +7

My uncle bought one last year. Really bad picture compared to the others I've seen, especially in dark scenes as it looks so dark and if i put brightness up it just looks pale as black goes grey and you still cant see dark scenes. Avoid and pay extra $200 for Sony 40inch.

    • Is there any spec that will tell you how a tv will go with dark scenes (I can't see what's going on with mine),or can you only tell by looking at the tv in question?

      • Contrast ratio is the number to look out for. Thought that can be confusing because that's also the spec that manufacturers tend to artificially inflate or just outright lie about. The general rule though is that a bigger number (100,000:1) is better than a smaller one (500:1). Due to the inconsistent methods of testing the contrast ratio, it's hard to really know how black the blacks (and white the whites) are without seeing the TV in action.

Much better if you ask me

  • +12

have bought a few LCD Bauhn TV's from aldi.
2 are fine one 42" has a crap picture and sloooow to change channels.
Blacks often look dark blue???? but only sometimes.
You get what you pay for.

None compare to the picture quality of my Samsung 63" Plasma (or the power consumption…..)

Why did someone 'neg' this quite constructive comment by a member?

The guy states he's bought two items from the same company before and provides meaningful feedback on these plus compared to a competitor product and yet some clown negs him for this?

Gee it wasn't even like he neg'd this deal so what do we only want people to say all deals are GREAT or instead provide mindless negative comments like "This deal sucks"?

Too many members here don't understand the idea behind the voting system against comments and it's not some popularity poll to see if you like/dislike what they say.

The guys comment was valid and meaningful (albeit not overly technical), and as such didn't deserve a neg. :-/

      • maybe he negged the wrong person or made a negative remark to someone, I often notice people are petty and go neg crazy when they are negged…see my posts for instance!

        • +3

or sometimes they just see your name and thats enough… i rest my case.

        • +1

Yeah I do that with "jv" ;)

        • The neg needs to be justified and need to provide compulsary replies otherwise people get upset. That's probably something the moderators will need to consider if they want to avoid receiving complaints.

        • +1

We all do that with JVV ;) Nah, I actually pretty much always agree with what he says. he just says what what he thinks, which tends to P people off…

    • How much is the 63" Plasma, how can you compare it with that.

      • +2

The 63" 3D plasma cost about $3k 18 months ago.
About 800w power consumption its a power hog but the picture quality and crispness is supurb.
3D, well thats just a "novelty"

if you looked at any of the Bauhn LCD's you would ALWAYS prefer to watch the Plasma.

        that was my point.

But at the time i bought the Bauhn it was costing about 30% less than anything else around of similar "spec"
The only problem is although the "specs" are the same on paper, in reality they can be quite different, picture repoduction, shimmer, colours etc.

i guess you buy cheap hoping that you dont end up with all the hassle of unboxing and not being satisfied with the purchase, reboxing and returning for a refund.

BTW the Bauhn model was an AX-42FD2 with the crap colour repoduction.

  • The current trend of the LED TVs is to go really big and really cheap. I.E. Vizio 60" LED Smart TV for $999 plus tax in US. It's probably going to happen in Australia soon.

    • +8

      Nothing happens in Australia… Soon…

    • Maybe people are finally figuring out that there's another product on the market called 'Plasma television', which provides a superior image unless you have a ray of sun beaming directly into your room, in which the image is washed out and rubbish on both LED and Plasma anyway.

… yet people continue to be fooled into paying 1k+ more for the inferior equivalent LED panel. Probably the same folk who complain about carbon tax and petrol prices. Dumb.

There are good and bad about led and plasma tv. It's a personal preference.

      • Aren't plasma supposed to require more downtime for repairs? (At least, the plasma from early days)

      • Plasma power consumption is much higher than LCD and don't you get burn in on a plasma display? What happens if kids leave the xbox on dashboard for a couple hours?

      • Someone I know, who had an early plasma screen, had to send it back to the shop 3 times in the first year. Outage 1-3 months.

  • +3

Seems pretty simple to me. What do you want for $549? Buy it, if you don't like it, bring it back within 60 days! I don't see JB or Harvie allowing you to bring it back if you don't like it.

  • +4

Anyone else but me see the small image preview and think glitter eneloop batteries?

  • +9

a sucker is bauhn every day

  • +2

I don't know what you're all complaining about. I've got one of these in my basement, and it plays my porn just fine.

    • yes, But i hear you whip your gimp if he complains…

I actually purchased the 42" and the 47" Bauhn TVs from Aldi last year and they are freaking amazing. The specs may not look amazing compared to the big brands nowadays but damnit these tvs are well worth the money. I have 3 in the house and they haven't let me down! I have one hooked to the ps3 and the other 2 to laptops throughout the house, great picture and sound quality

Tip for purchasing every store only has 20-30 tvs so get there maybe half an hour before openin time. Most people think they stock these tvs in the aisles and that's when people rush in!!! Just casually stroll over to the check out and ask for the tv, you actually pay upfront and get a receipt to redeem from the guys at the storeroom section of the store.

For the new buyers good luck and hope you enjoy this awesome tv as much as I do :)

i bought a 32" Bauhn - had it over a year it has a spectacular picture - great colour - also this particular one has a nice aesthetic to it with a chrome curved line under the screen where the speakers are (so it's nice to look at…)

  • Are there any amazon.de deals anymore? I remember people getting 50" name brands for ~$800 not too long ago..

  • Can anyone comment on the quality of the remote that comes with this unit? I'm sick of TV remotes that die a month after getting a new TV…

    • super late response but i've been using these tvs for over a year now, i wrap the remote in a soft plastic cover so it's still in perfect working condition. The remote is solid as well i think my brother dropped his off his bed a few times cos he's an idiot but it still works ^^
