While it'd be nice for everyone to support the broader society, I can't exactly blame people for not supporting something that they don't feel deserves support. Imagine paying for PT via taxes, paying for fares, and then having PT run late half the time (or not even show up). I had to take 4 bus trips yesterday and 3 were all over 5 minutes late (the last one was late too, but <5min). 1 was almost 15min late. I've had tram drivers not see me and just rip on past while I stood at the shelter. It doesn't exactly make me want to keep paying for it.
More than that. The money supports a government that voluntarily locked people up for 260+ days because of their own incompetence. Countless lives ruined. It's hard to identify any government in the world that performed as bad - absolutely none in Australia nor New Zealand come close. Why give money to bad people?

You can tap on one tram to activate the ticket for a two hour block and change trams during your trip - there's no legal requirement to tap on again or off within those two hours. And then once you've used two of those blocks in a day, that's the "daily fare limit".

Myki payer and also Fare evader here. I felt good for being a good citizen but also felt bad for myself for spending $1600 for a year of myki. The system cost billions of dollars to build and will cost even more in the future. Also there is no option to buy bulk ticket by number of touch, you have to pay for weekend fare even if you don’t use it for a whole period. I just felt sad for businesses like buses outsourcing partners who have to pay for the evasion cost

There's a group of people who I see on vline and metro who consistently never tap on or off, unfortunately the ticket inspectors never take any action or even question them.
