The 4K is cheaper than last month's $69 deal, but no free delivery like the Google Store new accounts deal had. The HD is $0.85 cheaper than the last TGG deal but not as cheap as the $29 Google Store new accounts deal.

Chromecast HD $33.15

Firesticks are also $0.85 & $3.85 cheaper than last month's TGG deal. See Roguewolf's post: Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max 23 $50.15 | Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K 23 $33.15 C&C/+ $5 Delivery @ The Good Guys eBay.

Delivery should be $5, or free click & collect. No free eBay plus delivery available as TGG don't have an express postage option on their listings to qualify.

If you don't have eBay Plus, free trial available, or it's $4.99 for a month or various other yearly deals are around.

  • 33 bux for the Chromecast HD is a hella good price. Nice.

  • the store says it wont post to my postcode even though there is a store in my city and no option pops up to click and collect at checkout. any way around this?

nvm figured it out. had to add a new address of my parents house in brisbane so i could click and collect from townsville store lol

  • Another example of eBay plus fail…

It suppose to provide free delivery…

    • +6

In this case the seller has not provided an express postage option, so eBay Plus free delivery cannot be applied to the listing as per the seller requirements.

<Insert obligatory "This or Firestick 4k Max?" comment here> 🤔

My opinion, this is better (I've had both).

dont panic but the guy below you disagree

      • And the guy above me.

I have both and will always choose Chromecast because:
      - Firestick has no profile pin ability. Anyone can access your profile and do anything they want. Chromecast does
      - Firestick has no parental controls - I have kids with their own profiles that have their own age content set for each profile. Chromecast does
      - Some apps are not available on the firestick. Cannot remember which ones they were now, but it was annoying
      - My Firestick would randomly boot me out back to the homepage for no reason. Didn't matter what the app was, as I tried to isolate it. Gave up in the end
      - Casting to Chromecast from all our android phones was easy. Firestick took more effort
      - Can cast PC games being played to screen. Clear image, just a bit stuttery with movement.

If none of the above is a concern to you and all you want is 4K over HD, then sure, get a Firestick and save coin.

Well said, I agree with all your points.

  • If you don't need the ability to Chromecast, the Firestick 4K is much better value at almost half the price. I have both. Very little real difference between the two. All the major apps are supported.

    • better value because the Firestick is more powerful? Or simply because it's cheaper?

      • It's cheaper and performance is on par. You're only really missing the ability to Chromecast to it.

Also, the Chromecast 4k is becoming a bit long in the tooth. It's due for a refresh, so I wouldn't want to be spending this much on it right now.

For me, it came down to the OS. Google TV is familiar and used by several TV manufacturers. I do not like Fire OS one bit.

          • @Maths Debater: Honestly, the differences are minimal. Most of the time you're just navigating to an app and once you're there, it's pretty much the same experience.

A bonus on the Firestick is the dedicated apps button on the remote to take you to all your apps quickly (good if some apps don't fit on the homescreen).

I have both and I much prefer the firestick 4k 2023. At half the price, the firestick 4k is a no brainer. Plus the fire stick remote has volume control after you sync to the TV. I feel the firestick is also snappier.

      • +1

Not sure why the Volume Control is a point of difference as the CCwGTV also has Volume Controls on the remote.

  • Hey guys if I wanted to use this during classroom lessons, to wirelessly cast my iPad or laptop, would I be able to do it without connecting to the School Wifi Network?

The school wifi network requires me to login through all my devices with a username and password. Not sure if you can log in with the Chromecast.

    Thanks in Advance!

    • I have used Chromecast during my travels by connecting it to a mobile wifi hotspot. This way Chromecast and the other device both need to be on the same mobile wifi hotspot.

      • I've also done this at a hotel as I didn't want to pay for their crappy internet.
Didn't try casting to it at the same time though, just used it to watch Netflix.

  • Could Prime Video app be installed on these?

    • Yes there is a Prime Video app on Chromecast with Google TV in play store.

  • My Firestick has recently started showing full screen video ads when turned on which is really annoying so I'm looking to replace it. Does this do anything similar? Or does it just show the Google TV Home Screen?

    • +1

Just picked up the HD - no ads, just the standard Google TV UI. Also, apparently you can load a custom launcher to replace the UI on the Chromecast if you want to fully customise it or go minimalistic etc.

Firestick/Amazon are best avoided nowadays imo, they've indicated they're aiming to become more of a walled garden (with plans to ditch Android) akin to Apple TV.

    • agree, very annoying

    • Seems you can disable that "feature" for the time being anyway https://www.androidauthority.com/amazon-fire-tv-auto-play-fu…

      • Thanks for that. Let’s hope they don’t disable it.

        • Yeah…. I actually opted for the Firestick 4K over the Google TV HD as they were the same sale price recently, still awaiting delivery from Amazon but in two minds whether I made the right decision and stuff like what you mentioned has me a little worried. The TV I'm going to be using it on is only HD anyway..

    • It's an Amazon device - are you really shocked?

  • Anyone got recommendations for a cheap but proven Ethernet USB C hub to get a wired connection? Most are close to the price of the Chromecast itself!

  • +3

Chromecast HD currently $37 on Amazon - slightly better option if you're going to pay shipping here.

    • Same at officeworks, if you have Onepass.

  • I'd stay away. This has a long-standing bug in switching to the correct framerate output a lot of the time, making playback stutter. It's been going on for over two years and apparently Google doesn't care enough to fix it.

    • Seems like this is only with game mode enabled

      • Not always, game mode relevance is only for some TVs. Game mode was disabled for me and I still had it.

    • Neg'd for reporting a huge bug with this device that Google refuses to put effort into fixing. Nice one OzB.

      • I got you, too many paid for shills on here, OZB really needs to clean up fake alt user accounts.

  • I got one of these for all my TV's. Reliable and consistent experience across all tv's no matter the shitty UI that comes from the TV's OS. (I use 3 4k ones and 1 HD one, See no difference most of the time)
