HP Envy 6030e All-in-One Printer $38 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Harvey Norman

63

Regardless of your opinion about HN or about HP's subscription model, I felt this was a good deal as it is $100+ elsewhere.

I believe that Brother is now a better go to brand for budget quality printers than HP but if you're just looking for a basic colour printer for occasional use, seems like this would be ok.

Printer comes with some 6 month subscription to instant ink too with HP+ though I think you need to keep the printer on constantly for that.

Hopefully there aren't too many comments here telling me I bought some crap landfill, the reviews appear to be fairly positive.

I have this printer. Initially liked it but 6 months of very little use and the ink dried up and can't print any documents now. I guess it's the thing with inkjet printers.

    • same thing happened with my $300 epson. used it a fair bit for shipping labels aswell

Same thing happens to all inkjets. If you don't use them regularly they will dry up and be stuffed.

At least a decent scanner for $38, if that's what peeps need.

    • Yep, bought one just for the scanner

Will it work without ink cartridges in place?
Many MFPs scanners would not work when low ink messages are on.

      • +2

Don't do it! The scanner doesn't work unless you pay the subscription.

Just a heads up that I believe the "e" suffix means this is one of HP's "instant ink" printers that uses HP's "HP+" service - some people have reported that if they "accept" all the disclaimers at set up when using this printer for the first time for the HP+ service, they're now opted into HP's instant ink service and can only use HP cartridges. There is apparently no way to revert this.

I've found this thread about it here at the HP support forum: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers…

it looks like some printers require HP+ (thus you're 100% locked in) and some others just state that it's recommended (not required) - but not sure if the above printer requires it.

Maybe others can shed more light, because it seems pretty dodgy from HP if true (and since it's being discussed on the official HP support forum, makes me think it's "as designed" as far as HP is concerned.

Don't do it! The printer bricks itself if you're not subscribed to the HP+.

$2 per month might seem much but the problem is you tend to print in waves. i.e. you print 30 pages all in one day and then don't print for a while.

https://instantink.hpconnected.com/au/en/l/v2 Their plans are designed around this knowledge.

It's a small outlay sure but it's just going to be ewaste pretty quickly.

Not having used this printer before, according to https://instantink.hpconnected.com/au/en/terms

You should still be able to use this using regular cartridges.

"Cancellation by You. You may cancel Your Service at any time online at www.hpinstantink.com, the cancellation link www.hpinstantink.com/cancel (for business customers, please use this cancellation link www.hpinstantink.com/cancel_business), or by calling the HP Customer Support at the HP Customer Support Telephone number noted at the beginning of this Agreement, and your Service will then be cancelled effective as of the last day of Your current Month Period. For example, if Your current Month Period runs from January 15th to February 15th, and You submit a cancellation request to HP on January 30th, Your Service will be cancelled as of February 15th. Upon cancellation all outstanding debt will be charged to Your account. Your Payment Method will be charged in full for Your last Month Period, and no refunds will be provided for Service Plan Pages or Rollover Pages that You did not print during that last Month Period or otherwise. Simply removing the Subscription Cartridges from Your printer, not printing, and/or not connecting Your printer to the Internet does not cancel Your Service or otherwise stop the Billing Cycles. After you cancel the Subscription Ink Service, HP will remotely disable the subscription cartridge, so you will no longer be able to print with it. You will then have the option to return the subscription cartridge to HP. No refunds will issue for any unused ink. To continue printing after cancellation, you will need to purchase a regular HP cartridge compatible with your printer."

    • Woah that's crazy. HP is renting their printers out.

  • I've got the 6034 and realising i could print and scan directly from mobile devices was a revelation. Guess most people already know that you can do that with newer multifunctions but even so every time i print straight from my phone it feels like the magic of the future :) The device itself seems capable and has been reliable

hp cheap printers are a headache. avoid at any price point

  • I find $2 a month for 10 pages and extra $2 for 10 pages is good value if you only print photos but not documents. Just need to source some cheap photo papers.

  • I've been looking for a compact scanner/printer that isn't too expensive (and not too ink hungry) as I need to print stuff at home sometimes.. rarely but annoying when I need to and I'm not in the office.

Is there anything reliable like that? My past experiences with printers have generally been negative haha so I've been avoiding this as much as possible (and don't really have the space etc).

At this stage any printer EXCEPT for an HP.

But inexpensive and not ink hungy generally don't go in the same sentence.

You have to pay more for either the printer or the ink. That's the way it is.

If it must be an inkjet then the EcoTank printers are probably best value.

But a cheap black and white laser is probably still cheaper to run and won't clog up?

    Say no to hp scums

This was a big step for me after getting 128 upvotes in my only deal post, thought I'd try to follow up after a decade of membership but failed miserably :D

It's alright mate, it's hard to predict the successful bargains and it was unlikely you'd know about the cartridge subscription prior to posting. Your contribution to the community is still appreciated even if the deal doesn't appeal

  • Scored the last one in stock at HN Bundall-happy with it $38 and works A-OK with my 67XL from my Deskjet 27.

Box had some slight damage on the outside probably from the way it was stacked under the cabinet on the floor but all factory sealed..
