  • this seems like an unbelievable deal. what's the catch?

    • +4

For context, the normal price for the 66cm at BigW is $129.

      • +2

        via mydeal, interestingly.

but yeah, seems to be some questionable reviews on these low-end delseys. 2 year warranty is also kind of lacklustre. on paper, though, this seems okay - tsa lock, polypropylene is a decent material, four wheels..

      • Big W sells Delsey?

        • Just discovered when this was posted.

      • How many kilos can I fit in 66cm suitcase? Thanks

        • +2

Depends if you fill it with feathers or lead.

    • +3

      https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/society/article/3241654/…

Yes, the brand that exceeds the standard by 45 times is Delsey.

      • +3

Sigh… clarity please. I thought you were making positive reference (as in Delsey luggage quality)

        • +1

I had a poke around about this too. Same source:
          https://scmp_epaper.pressreader.com/article/281736979181221

          It also notes:

Customs reported the Delsey Paris product was no longer for sale.

          • -1

@Humble Johnson: To be clear, "Delsey Paris" is the brand, but the actual affected model is unclear based on the two linked articles above as, confusingly, they refer to different models. The first references the "St Tropez 24-inch", and the second refers to the "St Tropez 61cm". Both articles say that other sizes from the same range were tested with no traces found… but which is it?!

I am especially disappointed by both this deal and this news as I recently shelled out a fair chunk of change for 3 Delsey cases for an upcoming trip. Why can't we just have nice things?!

      • A deal to die for!

    • There isn’t one. The markup on luggage is obscene , like 60%

  • Prices now changed?

  • +1

    Is Delsey any good?

  • Delsey are supposed to be pretty high quality suitcases aren't they?

    • "supposed" but they are not depending on which ones you get. The polycarbonate ones are more durable not these cheap ones. After one trip, you get scratches all over and if you're lucky, you might not get a crack or a hole after a trip.

      • I got a brand new polycarbonate Delsey which I took it for a hospital stay. After returning home, I noticed there were scratches on the suitcase and I was the only one who handled it. I can’t imagine what it’d be like after an overseas trip. The wheels are very smooth though.

        • +1

Scratches are inevitable, regardless of brand. That's normal wear and tear.

Dents, missing legs/wheels, cracked suitcases .. that's what I'm worried about

          • +2

@dottydotdot: True. I’m not sure if the Delsey will hold up well. The only way to find out is to use take it for a trip to undergo the rigorous tests by the airport luggage handlers.

Thats an unbelievable deal for a set of Delsey.

    • Read it again!

      • Read what? A+B+C = set

Can people not fathom basic mathematics? Find me another Delsey set atm for less than $279.

        • it's not a set. it is one suitcase per purchase, and it comes in multiple sizes.

  • +1

How does Delsey compare to Samsonite/American Tourister?

    • +1

I was in DJ's comparing the two, and I bought Samsonite in the end because it was more functional - lighter, wheels are buttery smooth, lining was removable for washing and less awkward to carry.

Delsey felt more sturdy and solid, which I would expect for the price tag. Delsey's wheels were also very smooth, but not gliding smooth as the Samsonite.

    • +4

If you get the premium ones like the ones myer or DJ sell, it is not too bad. These mydeal ones are like the rejects. Buy at your own risk.

  • +2

I replaced our hard shell for soft shell luggage. The new ones are now so light, even lighter than an equivalent hard shell; yet sturdy and resilient to the abuse they are expected to go through. They can be mostly waterproof with a removable vinyl cover. The only downside is I can't put stickers on them!

  • code is only for 1 item.

    https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/society/article/3241654/…

Yes, the brand that exceeds the standard by 45 times is Delsey.

    • Thanks for the heads up, but the article is behind a paywall…

      • Google "delsey luggage cancer" and read the top few results…..

        • Could you just wrap the handle with something else?

          • @boretentsu: Buy luggage for a trip and get cancer, nice!

          • @boretentsu: actually, this might work, just wear gloves and wrap the handle with duct tape 3X times. throw away the gloves and off you go. Not sure if these stuff will leak out when wet though…….

    • +2

You should really improve your communication skills. My first thought was "exceeded the quality standards" (e.g. impact or scratch resilience…) only after following the link I realized it was about the toxicity levels standards.

    • I saw that report from the HK Consumer Council when it first came out about two weeks ago but it’s not like it would make me want to throw away my Delsey. Just as the experts say, you won’t get cancer from skin contact just by having touched the handle with unbroken skin. You need to ingest it (and for long-term) to have adverse effects.

Just wash your hands after touching the handle like you would with handling any luggage.

      • How much of this suitcase can I eat without getting cancer?

        • Only the handle has that toxic chemical in question. My guess is you won’t get cancer even if you ate the whole handle. More likely birth defects if you are a pregnant woman!

    • +1

      Oops. New fear unlocked

  • +1

It's actually 2.95 kg for 66cm, just got delivered to me. The quality is pretty good, much lighter than my old American Tourister. For the price if it can last 4-5 trips then I'm happy.

  • +1

Perfect, needed a second suitcase for relocating and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for one I'd only use once. Thanks OP.

  • Looking to get large case for multi use. Travel and moving. Can’t decide which is better deal. The and soft case antler deal previously or this one.

    • +1

The Antler deal was definitely better, but the 'hack' doesn't work anymore which anymore which leaves a sour taste. However, my main case is an Antler case I've been using for 10 years with a lot of mileage on it and still looks near new.

      • Cheers for the recommend

  • i'm getting charged for shipping. Can't seem to get the price delivered.

    • +2

I also get charged for shipping for $13.95. Are you in WA?

  • +5

25% cashback via ShopBack from 5pm to 11pm AEDT

    • +1

      Thanks for the tip!

  • I can't get the delivered prices as per the OP's description. I have already applied the code. Is it because I am in Perth?

    • yes. no free shipping to Perth. I just worked it out myself

      • Ok, got it. Well, still cheaper than even the American Tourister for the same size

        • I bought the medium from the woolies website. worked out cheaper (as it had free shipping) than mydeal.

  • +1

Just got home with a smashed off wheel from the 4 year old well-travelled BigW case, good deal op.

  • +1

got the 68cm soft version, with 3 yrs warranty.Use combank rewards for further $15off.

    https://www.mydeal.com.au/delsey-paris-maringa-4-wheel-softs…

    • Use combank rewards for further $15off.

How? You mean Yello in the app? I don't see anything relevant :(

      • Yes, the yello in the app. I got $15 cashback for $75 spend on mydeal.

  • Is it good?

  • +1

Thanks OP! Ordered the 77cm after 5pm for the 25% cashback (hope it tracks). I can see the 77cm is now sold out for the non blue colour but all other sizes are still there.

    • 77cm Blue is now also OOS.

  • 55cm (55 x 35 x 25cm) does not qualify as a carry-on baggage for Jetstar (56cm x 36cm x 23cm) https://www.jetstar.com/au/en/help/articles/carry-on-baggage…

    • +2

It would take a special kind of anal-retentive boarding steward to get pinged for a 2cm violation on one dimension…

  • -1

seems way too cheap to be any good long term. Also they open up in the middle which is annoying

  • +1

Has anyone received their order yet? Mine is stuck at received and ready for processing - 30/11/2023

    • Mine is on its way. I got via woolworths website but its still a mydeal purchase. I'm in WA. ETA this weekend.

  • Just enquired about when this will be sent

    "Thank you for contacting MyDeal.

I'm sorry to hear that you still haven't received your order.

Unfortunately, this item is out of stock. I have checked with the team that we have incoming stocks soon."

  • +1

An update on my delivery for the 77cm. One of the wheels came completely broken - it looks quite plasticky and cheap. Probably would avoid. Mydeal support was good though - provided a full refund.
