  • Crazy price for a very normal looking suitcase. Can find solid USB port suitcases under $150.

Unless this some luxury brand I haven’t heard of.

    • +1

Tumi is one of the most well-known travel brands around, surprised you hadn't heard of them. Owned by Samsonite now, but they've been around for ages.

      • +6

I haven't heard of them either but then again I'm not really a brand chaser.

        3.51kg for a 56cm carry on though?

      • -2

        Never heard.
Certainly not up there with Rimowa

        • I beg to differ, I certainly see more Tumi luggage in use than the well-used/sticker-laden rimowa cases….
The 19 degree aluminium cases are brilliant but extremely heavy for what they are but then again when you drop that kind of money on a carry-on you will be at the pointy end of the plane where they care less about how heavy your carry-on actually is.

Tumi and Hartmann sit atop the Samsonite group if you weren't aware

          • @teh_gimp: But what makes them so special?

            • @afayd: I wouldn't say there's anything super special about them, just the usual if you are after a more premium product and you are prepared to pay for it then go for it.

for Tumi I would suggest its more common to see people using it as their business luggage often sporting monogrammed initials on the bags (monogram service included when purchasing luggage)

Hartmann doesn't have much of a presence in Australia anymore but they have slightly more premium offerings than the Samsonite range
Rimowa's you do see a bit of, typically the well-used, long lasting dented somewhat iconic aluminium cases

Fair to say that you may pay more for Tumi and Rimowa but they do appear to be used in service for longer than the cheaper mainstream brands…

      • +1

Fair enough. I only fly a few times a year so haven't researched suitcases much.

  • +21

Great, I'll buy this instead of the airline ticket

  • +2

    Nothing but the brand name.

    • no, there is also a zip, that means you can open it and put things in it; as well as a USB port, that means you can plug in a cable.
Those are more than just a brand name.

  • +2

Nothing about this appears to make it worth the sale price, let alone RRP. What’s the use of a carry on that already weighs over 3.5kg? You can’t actually pack much lol.

    • At 3.51kg you can't even pack one of these inside another and be under the 7kg limit haha

    • +1

If you're spending $744 on a bag you probably wouldn't be flying budget airlines

      • +2

You're definitely on a budget if you buy this bag to save $500.

  • Where does it get the power to charge from USB port? Like do you need to charge the suitcase from a powerpoint or something?

    • It has a removable battery bank built in. It does contribute to the weight.

  • When your suitcase starts costing more than your overseas flight ticket .. might be time to start shopping around.. LOL

    • It is for who can afford business class where liggage allowances are higher.

      • Those lurking around OB trying to score a saving usually are not business class material, I'm afraid.

  • -1

Does it fly by itself or you still need to buy a plane ticket?

    • Yeah it does. The higher your apartment is, the further it will fly.

  • 3.51kg yeah no thanks. Most carry-on allowances are 7kg and that already eats up half of the allowance. I'll stick to my 55cm Samsonite 73H (1.9kg)

  • I say who needs a whole bag to themselves? Are their 7 others who would like to bag share with me. We can take turns in using it, or if we become friends we could all travel together and each use an 1/8th share. Let's bag this investment piece.

  • Do you have a friend that's hard to buy for? That friend who literally has…..nothing. This is the perfect bag for them.
