        • … at the moment i'd say we're actually not far from price parity

Previous comments on pricing refer to X570 ITX boards around $200-250 whilst X670 has the Strix going for $600

Based on your VR requirement, you best bet will be 7800X3D + mATX + 4070 Ti SUPER 16GB early next year

I should of also mentioned Gamers Nexus has the 7800X3D as the Best Gaming CPU for 2023.

Great price, I've been rocking mine for a couple months. Using the $55 peerless assassin, temps are fine. This cpu is easy to cool compared to Intels offerings. Don't go wasting upwards of $150 on cooling for it unless you really want to.

  • Drat. I already ordered one of these for 589 through mwave on friday. time to hand in my ozb card ig.

Was looking at upgrading my 5600x to a 5800x3d when I upgrade my gtx1080, but it's getting to the point where I may aswell jump up to 7800x3d, b650 and ddr5

    • You actually need to get a better GPU. If it is just GTX1080, you are basically wasting money on a FOMO purchase. The RTX 4090 figures for the performance improvement don't apply 1:1 to GTX1080.

When a better GPU gets you 200-300% better performance in games, CPU upgrade of 25% boost (and that's if you have RTX 4090 and at 1080p) is not going to do you much good. The upgrade is going to cost you ~$850 (CPU + cheap B650 + DDR5 RAM modules).

      • I'm getting a 4070 Super when they release next year and will probably upgrade the cpu / chipset at same time.

    • Im in the same boat, my previous top of the line 1080ti build is now starting to struggle.

Looking at a rx 7800 xt + ryzen 7800x3d build im looking at around $2.4k :(

      • How long have you had the 1080ti build for? I'm assuming it had a good run.

I'm curious what typical longevity for a high end system is, or I perhaps should say 'was' as future tech doesn't necessarily follow the same cycles as past.

        • I set it up around 2018, and aimed to get at least 5-8 yrs out of it which is sort of where im at. It can still play almost every game at pretty high settings really well, but can no longer put every setting on max. Im a casual gamer so im not chasing a billion fps or anything so it still good enough for me.

Im hoping that if i spend $2.5k on a new setup that i get at least the same length of time out of it.

            @DiscoJango: That's a decent run.

I built a system at start of 2021 but specced it too low to get decent/high settings for my 1440p display, which I bought afterwards. Still plays decently at medium settings but thinking of upgrading as high settings have a lovely sparkle to them. I'm pretty casual as well. It's hard to know whether to throw $ at the machine in small steps or do high end and don't touch it for 5 years +.

            • @huggsymersh: Im old and time poor now lol, i just want a set and forget setup. Do it once now and then not have to think about it for another 5 years :D

      • For what it's worth, Nvidia are re-releasing the 4070 and 4080 with higher VRAM early next year.

I was gonna go the 7800xt purely because it had 16gb vram, but the 4070 and 4070ti Super will apparently be released with 16gb vram in a few months time.

  • Oh no why.

This would be a signicant upgrade to my 3700x/RTX3080 combo wouldn't it?

But is it worth having to upgrade mobo/ram as well?

    • 7800x3D is much faster gaming CPU, but full platform upgrade cost around $900-$1000. I am not sure if the performance gain worth $1000, when you only have 3080.

    • i'm on 3700x and fine. i will buy 4080 ti and that's it. currently 2080 super

    • I cant wait for 140800X3D in 12 years

  • I dont suppose anyone worked out if you get the avatar redemption code with this seller? Cant see sny info on participating sellers from amd
