  • smallest gaming console

I can feel the hand cramps right now 😮‍💨

  • Is this a console for ants?

  • Ok. You got me. I bought one. Just seems to cool

  • I bought one of these at full price when they were on Kickstarter. Definitely not recommended for long sessions…but I did finish both Pokemon Red and Crystal on one!

  • I have one of the Kickstarter ones (clear plastic)
It's a very nifty little keychain thing, definitely not for long sessions, but the controls are fairly easy to use and it also has a tiny speaker.

It would make a great stocking stuffer for us Gen Y/X people who grew up with GB and GBC games

  • Bit of a shame that there has been no further development for any other console outside of the initial stuff (GB/GBC/SMS/GG). Then again, the device is so damn small that you can't really use it properly even if you have some set of eagle eyes.

    • +1

It’s an ESP32 cpu running it. The same chip that’s in most Smart devices. It’s super lower powered. It’s amazing it can emulate what it does.

      • +3

They opensourced it and there's been no new development outside of the emulating the original 8 bit Nintendo and Sega systems - someone did a flappy bird. Since then, there's been zero updates. It's not about what the CPU is, but it's simply no support and the screen resolution is way too low and small to do decent emulation.

        • I have another esp32 based portable and it has a text reader and MP3 player. That's something, I guess. Never used either though, naturally.

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: There's no expandability option on this - it literally comes with 16MB of storage - 2MB used by the emulators with less than 14MB free. Not sure how many MP3s you want to store here.. or want to put whatever text to view on a little 2cm screen?

  • Ugh, don't do it.

    • And why not? ;)

      • I imagine the novelty will wear off really fast. Best to put that coin to something that'll actually be comfortable to use.

        • For $40ish AU it’s a bit of fun. I have the mini+ and it’s great, but having it on a keyring is just a cool convo starter.

Repost: site is glitching and posting replies as a new response/thread.

  • Bought one last night, cheers OP. Had my eye on these for years to add to my stack of minis, love the FunKeyS but my battery has been dead for years, love the esp32 mini GBA style thing with no official real name too, but she always turns on real easy in your pocket accidentally so it's more often than not flat, but this guy, he's been my holy Grail of "shit I can attach to my car keys and not have it piss me off in my pocket".

Anyway, I actually mostly commented to say they're long out of stock now.

  • +2

If anyone missed out on one of these, let me know. I have two translucent ones at home that are new in a box (bought a little while ago). Happy to do $40 (which mimics this deal) plus postage.

    • ^^ These bastards are rarely available for under 100 AUD (inc. shipping), if you're interested, definitely take this guy up, v generous deal.

    • I am interested!

      • +1

Drop me a PM and we can discuss shipping etc. I'm from Sydney.

  • Wouldn't the screen and body get damaged from your keys?

    • Maybe if you have a hundred keys. I unfortunately for anecdotal information's sake hate having too much stuff in my pocket and only have my car key and house key on the ring. Buuuut after 3 or 4 years of using a few different keychain consoles with that setup, nah, no noticeable markage. They're also so small that they follow the fall damage logic of ants, in that I've dropped a couple of them dozens of times awkwardly pulling the keys out of my pocket and they've been absolutely fine.

    • You're more prone to accidentally pressing the On/Off button in your pocket than it is with anything else. Battery drains very quickly if you don't know this has happened.
