how do you suppose you fuel up a car when you live in a unit block with no petrol pump? Drive to a Petrol Station? Such argh

        40mins to charge……dammm

        • Cost you more than 40 minutes of work to fill up a week.

Not a fan of EV ICE cars…. how you supposed to charge fuel the car when you live in a unit block with no AC connection petrol pump?

      • +2

        Jerry can.

The model for petrol cars is to fill up at pump (and use discount vouchers)

The model for EV cars is to have solar and charge it at home. obviously does not work well in units.

if you are actually serious here, this is a solved problem in many countries including Australia. Multiple solutions available, easily found on EV threads.

      • I am serious…. So many hybrid cars out there, and im thinking if I got one Id have no real way to charge it at home, apart from going to those charging stations for 40mins and which I dont actually have the time due to having a baby.. so…. No point paying the higher price of hybrids

        • I think you will have some options with EV charging. Many people in apartments and units get this, and lean on organized charging options. Going to a charging station elsewhere is not really economical in most cases, not to mention the extra effort/time.

        • Multiple supermarkets/shopping centres and other locations have AC chargers (some of them are even free see https://www.plugshare.com/) - so it's mostly the matter of better planning where to plug in (at least for now). Of course, for regional towns it's slightly different, but it's unlikely to live in a unit with an electric car there.

        • I’m in a unit and have no charging options. I get off my arse and go to a free charger, whilst I am there I get some walking in. If im time pressed, I would pull up at a rapid charge and pay the $10 and 5 minutes to get me through to when I can use the free one again.

EV’s aren’t for everyone, but acknowledging that and moving on instead of complaining on this forum will help immensely, just saying

  • charge your EV at work

    • WFH makes it harder ;)

      • Wait until fast charge batteries are released and/or until you get charge infrastructure in your apartment. EVs don't make sense for everyone yet.

      • I think your stubbornness is what’s making it difficult.

  • I can see it becoming mandatory in the very near future for every parking bay in an apartment block to have a charge port installed. These would probably need to have an access code or key so that no one else can charge from that apartment's car bay. Or just pay as you go as you do at the communal charging bays.

  • From Oct 2023 all new apartment builds have to be wired for EV charging.
