40% off Everything: Affinity V2 Universal Licence A$164.99 @ Serif

260

There was a similar one of these recently, but it was through the Microsoft Store which I'm not a fan of. Here's one through the actual publisher; you get various free fonts and images, I'm not sure if you get those with the MS Store version. Also, I prefer to have it in the Affinity store for future upgrade discounts.

An upgrade from V1, for all the packages (Affinity Publisher, Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer) across all platforms is $123, or it's $164ish if you haven't bought it previously.

Enjoy

    Just upgraded from v1!
    Excellent bundle of software.

  • I get that this license can be used across multiple platforms, but can it be installed on more than one Windows PC (as is my usage case)?

How many devices can I install Affinity apps on?
As a private individual you can install Affinity apps on as many devices as you own which run the operating system you have purchased a licence for (of course in the case of a Universal Licence that means you can install on any iPads, Macs or Windows PCs you own). Other people (for example, members of your household) are also allowed to use the apps on those devices. However, only you are allowed to use the apps for commercial use—if any members of your household need to make commercial use of the apps as well they will need to purchase their own licence.

For commercial enterprises, education and other multi-user situations, each licence can either be assigned to an individual or a device. For example, one Windows licence could be used by a single employee on both their Windows desktop and laptop computer. Alternatively, that licence could be assigned to a single Windows computer which is used serially by multiple employees.

Please note, assigning of licences is a manual process. You will need to keep track of which users or machines are using your licence details to make sure you don’t exceed the number of licences specified in your licence agreement.

You can give out the licence details to the required users or you can contact your account manager and ask for an affinity2.defaults file.

For more information please see our Windows, macOS or iPad licence agreements.

If you want something as powerful as the Adobe products (Designer, Illustrator, Photoshop), but don't want to pay the monthly fee - this is definitely your go-to.

I can't justify paying a monthly fee for something I only use occasionally. So grabbed this.

    • If you do want to add Adobe photography apps (PS, LR) to your collection, subscribing via Turkiye works out to less than $40 AUD per year.

      • Any links for that?

There was once a heavily upvoted deal like that, but for many it turned unobtainable at some stage - people shares JavaScript scripts in comments but they weren't helpful at some stage or for some people.

Otherwise still looking for the classic Lightroom substitute - been years and there hasn't been any software on par with LR.

        • Not sure about javascript, but i was able to do it very easily. Local aus debit card etc. no shenanigans at all. Can’t remember if i used my VPN or not. Search ‘adobe turkey’ on here.

Its especially useful for the adobe stock subscription too. $10 for 3 assets in 1 month (songs for videos etc), then just unsubscribe until you need it again. Aus price is $45 or something stupid

          • @eggboi: Can't see any active offer for $40 or so per year. You might have meant one of the expired deals.

            • +1

@pizzaguy: right here mate - it's like $32 a year for the photos apps currently. https://www.adobe.com/tr/creativecloud/plans.html?filter=all…

              • @eggboi: The original deal wasn't actually expired, but not as straight forward as it was, I need to use vpn and use a new email address to register a new adobe id to be able to pay with Aussie credit card.

May also work with Amex Adobe offer to save another $10 too.

I am affinity v1 user, I think it was almost as good as Photoshop until adobe brought on the new AI Denoise and other tools, which is quite a bit ahead of any competitors I believe. The Denoise alone is better than software such as Topaz or DXO. I am not an adobe fan but I must admit they have the upper hand.

                • @cello: Yeah, it's always ideal to foster competition rather than flock to the market leader and help them monopolize. However there are a couple of tricks that can make the turkey subscription method a bit less inconvenient. You can either change your current aus account email address to something else, which frees up your main email to use for the 'new' account. Or if you have Gmail, you can add a full stop between any characters in your username, eg abc123@gmail > abc.123@gmail. This will go to your same address but adobe will see it as a new address. This is neat because it works the same way for other services where you may want to create multiple accounts. And yes, the denoise in PS and LR is great!

@eggboi: Did you try the Gmail trick? I tried but it seems failed too, even with new aliases.

I ended up using my Outlook account to create new aliases, that one you won't tell from other normal ms free email accounts.

I also used my AU amex to pay, as they have an Adobe offerring of spend 25+ get $10 back, I see $34 being deducted on my card by Adobe Ireland something, I have not see my cashback yet. Oh well $34 is good enough I won't complain.

                    • +1

@cello: Yeah nice work. When I signed up, I used the other route; change email address to a dummy account, then create new account with main email.

Just set yourself a calendar reminder in 12 months to check price before it auto-renews, in case they jack up the Turkey price by 5x next year haha.

Also seeing "adobe ireland" on the charge description totally erases any guilt one may feel for not buying through the AU store - Adobe are one of the world's worst tax-evaders.

  • Great software!

I can definitely vouch for the Affinity suite - I use it daily. However, my company also pays for Adobe but it doesn't run well enough on the company machines. I've found affinity much more optimised. So I'm mostly using Acrobat + I sometimes need to open indesign files with indesign.

I's say it's about 80% feature parity, one really great feature is how the UI is consistent across the programs whereas Adobe is a giant mess (looking at you InDesign!).

You do not get any Generative AI functionality and it's generally not so good with cutting peoples faces out and detecting people/objects but that's really where the differences end. There are tools to assist with workflows (such as iPhone Photos detect).

On the fence with buying a licence, but are these things the missing 20% ?

      • +1

Pretty much! There could also be some missing effects. Id say Affinity is a definite upgrade from an online design program like Canva but if you have a very very particular workflow on Adobe it might not work.

Is a particular feature you'd like me to try out?

Additionally their documentation is pretty great.

        • Not really. I learned to edit images using Photoshop so I'm really used to the keyboard shortcut, tools, effects and layering system.

Other than that, I'm not tied to the extra smart tools which are nice to have.

Been using Krita to get by, but it doesn't quite feel the same. Affinity demo seems to be closer to what I want

  • I didn't realise the payment was per version, but that makes sense.

Those who have moved over from Adobe to Affinity for commercial use, how has your experience been?

My wife tried it done time ago but went back to Adobe shortly after. I would like her to move over for cost reasons but she said it wasn't as full featured as Adobe. Would like to know if it has matured now, and/or if she just didn't trial it for long enough.

This software is fantastic, I use it almost daily in a design-adjacent position and have had Designer since v1 was in beta. Just a note for anyone in newer design or related positions. If you're looking to get into the industry, you'll have to learn/use the Adobe suite. There are a few features which Adobe has that Affinity products don't have, but largely the reason is because its the industry standard and what everyone uses.

If you're a freelancer, not working within a team or not looking to become a design professional (and using it for whatever), I'd recommend the Affinity Suite every time over Creative Cloud. I think its more performant (potentially excluding massive files, haven't tested) and just a much nicer experience to use, especially on Windows. You could use stuff like GIMP and InkScape, but neither of them compare to a professional product with a much better UX and more functionality.

  • Microsoft store offer is better for windows 🪟 only users, as it allows you to install on more than one machine with a single purchase I believe. Whether you can use them at the same time is another question.

    • +1

Usually that is the case but looks like Affinity's licence is extremely flexible/user-friendly. What a breath of fresh air!
