Cant get my quad GPU setup. 192Gb is too little these days, yet they cant even deliver that…

Oh cool, I was just thinking about how having a 2nd kidney seemed a bit redundant.

    • +18

Not to worry. Kidneys are over rated. Dialysis is covered by medicare

    • +3

Now presenting KidneyGPT, the AI to replace the organ you sold to invest in hardware.

    • +1

hmm.. made me actually think about whether a kidney is worth 12k…

  • +23

Can I put these in SLI?

    • +8

Yes. I'm using it alongside my 7950GX2 quad-sli

    • +70

Unfortunately not, no NVLink on cheaper NVidia cards any more.

      • +4

        Underrated comment

      • +3

It's entirely silly that they dropped NVLink on this. It really restricts its use for whole classes of modern transformer-based models.

Looks like our A6000s won't be upgraded any time soon.

    • +1

get two+ and try NVDIA Mosaic

    will this run only fans

    • +68

No, it only has one fan, no plural possible

      • +6

Well played. He never saw that cumming

          …that's the money shot

    • +1

Should run onlyfans but might struggle with 69 tabs of Pornhub videos open at once though the amount of ram would more so help with that

      • +4

So it is not enough bang for bucks???

        • Might need to splash some cash to give a good spray

  • +2

What would anyone use this for?

    • +12

Probably some intense rendering/ simulation work. Don't know a lot about it but apparently deep learning also likes a lot of GPU power.

    • +7

Deep learning for models where 24GB of 4090 is not sufficient.

    • +17

Wait until you realise most people who use these don't just buy one!

    • +2

      Usually for training AI.

      • +4

        Deep Learning requires Deep Pockets

      • +1

Why is he training? Is it Basic?

And who is this Al ? Is it Al Pacino?

    • +7

engineering we use these, we have them in university for research and private engineering companies. an example software we use is something called ANSYS, running the sample simulation on my 3090 takes maybe a week or 2, running it on this hardware it will complete it in 2 days.

    • +7

We've got a lab full of workstations and rack-mount servers with the predecessor (the A6000).

It's used for a mix of robotic simulation (i.e. high-fidelity simulations of autonomous machines, including complex raytracing of sensors), and for AI model training.

The reason we use the A6000s is the memory (96GB per unit when you join two using NVLink). Also, unlike consumer cards, they're not going to die if you leave them running at 100% capacity day-in, day-out training models.

They're also comparatively cheap when compared to an A100 (AU$25k each) or H100 (being scalped for US$30-40k right now).

However, with this card, they've dropped NVLink, which is a real shame. It restricts its use to workloads that can get by with 48GB of memory.

  • Can it play games at 12k resolutions?

When you need to brute force the password to your childhood Neopets account to give it to your own children.

    • +5

It would be cheaper to just buy your account back from the dark web given how often Neopets is hacked.

    • +2

Neopets is actually trying to get more people to play now. I got an email saying they are reworking the password recovery process and made it super easy to recover a password as long as it's not a high profile account. I got my account back by just asking for it.

    • +1

But now you can play Starfield on max settings?

      • +1

I don't have cash left to buy any games 😂

    • Net cost is not 0 unless you already mined enough bitcoin to recoup the initial cost

  • +4

    Where’s the bargain?

    • +11

Bro, if you can't pump out at solid 360Hz on Fortnite on max settings with ray tracing, are you even a true gamer?

      • +3

Will it run AOE4 on max settings?

      • +1

I don’t know if YOU are a true gamer if you’re getting fps (internal video processing speed) and hz (external expression of that internal video processing speed) mixed up…

Anyone can get 360fps+ on this card, but never 360hz without a 360hz monitor or remotely close to it (unless it’s an overclocked 300hz+ [however you do that…] or the prototype overclocked low res (480p?) high hz (700hz?) CRT monitor [yes they exist and can purchase from a private engineer lol - I’m not affiliated]).

It doesn’t matter if max settings or not, or if you get 1000-2000fps, you physically can’t get 360hz refresh rates without such a monitor. Refresh hz rates are bottle necked by monitor hardware (monitors are playing massive catch up - c‘mon Samsung, BenQ, Acer!!!).

You can still use the ridiculously high fps (thanks to the crazy GPU) on a 60hz monitor (even on an old school 60hz CRT monitor - but why would you…). But that would be dumb because the GPU fps is yawning while the monitor is working it’s ass off.

Plus, 360hz is currently limited to native 1080 res because they only support 1080.

Native 1080 can only be max upscaled to 4K through super sampling antialiasing (which does look really freaking good tbh) - but native 2K or 4K pixel clarity/sharpness/detail with 360hz smoothness would look even more amazing, but with significantly reduced fps of course (but would still be humongous - probably 1000fps?).

Supersampled to 8K on a 4K 240hz monitor (do they exist yet, or is it still 120hz?) would reduce fps even more (say 500fps - tbh I’m not familiar with fortnight so just very rough guesses - I’m a 23yr CS veteran…). Introduce 4K 240hz widescreen and that reduces it further due to higher video processing demand (say down to 300fps). If so, then you can still play with 300-500fps with 240hz refresh rate on a 240hz monitor, but you can never play with 240hz refresh (but can still at 300-500fps) on a 144hz monitor.

Always 60hz refresh on 60hz monitor, or 360hz on 360hz no matter what fps.

Plus, always try to match fps with hz (+/- 5fps) on G-Sync (not VSync), for fastest latency (yes it’s been shown). E.g., reduce the 1000fps to a well maintained 360fps (as much as it hurts…) when using a 360hz monitor (at 1080p even if upscaled to 4K on max settings). This latency is NOT the monitor advertised “ms rate” on the packaging box 1 it’s the entire monitor (Nvidia G-sync compatible) PLUS the fps achieved via GPU (whichever powerful AMD or Nvidia GPU you use) interacting together that G-sync has somehow achieved this amazing OVERALL latency user experience (based off our human perception and cognitive ability) result. In CSGO, 1000fps at 360hz OVERAL latency = 360fps at 360hz OVERALL latency.

        Yup…

        • FINALLY 👏SOMEONE 👏UNDERSTANDS👏 THANK YOU.

Generally for machine learning, rendering, etc, where vram needs to be as high as possible.

  • +6

    Damn son, what a bargain!!!!!

Don't forget jb hifi price match and stack with $5 off $100 gift cards

  • Woot! Got 1 to play Minecraft

  • Is this good for machine learning?

    • +1

If you're running those huge models, then not much of a choice.

Sad they removed NVLink on Ada gen so no more unified memory pool via NVLink.

    • are you just a bot that pastes this question on every single GPU post and ignore all the replies?
