  • Your graphics shows the referral offer is expired. Where can one see the new promo, its Nov expiry date, and its T&Cs?

    • I'll update it when the link updates… i can see the new referral promo in Webull app, looks like this below.

      https://ibb.co/9NmPtms

      • Is the referral link different from the previous promo?

Please update the link in your description.

  • +1

    better rewards !!

    • best ones.

    • It’s improved a lot compared to the past few months

  • +2

For those who signed to the last offer, are they f…ed ?

    • +1

It appears this offer is $200 value vs previous $120 value… unless one got lucky and got the higher value share.

      • I actually got 5 telsa at 5.20, and might get 15 more if hold 30 days, so $104 if no mistake.
Where do you get the $120 ?

        • USD5.20 which is about AUD8.00 , hence AUD120 thereabouts.

      • +1

Also better value today than yesterday, because you get more tesla shares for $1 today after they dipped from yesterday!

    • thats what I want to know as well lol

    • Yes, and twice. TLSA was $260 when I signed up, now it's only $200.

      • You get 0.032 of a Tesla share per allotment in this promotion. That is fixed. So the title of this thread is really an approx/estimate in terms of dollar value.

If Tesla skyrockets to $US400 before your shares are confirmed, you'll do much better than described. If it sinks to $100, you'll do much worse.

        • Yep and we've had plenty of threads this year where TSLA went way up.

          • +1

@wavesgreen: I've been on both sides of this ride!

This promo was priced at TSLA $US200, it's now $US220, so if your stocks land now you've done a bit better. AUD is up a smidgen though.

If you had a really strong view on TSLA's direction in the short term, you could try and "time" your redemption. But for most of us, it's luck if we do better/worse than par.

  • +1

Do these get picked up by ATO when you sell, should we be factoring tax in

      • Webull will give you a cost base on disposal I believe, this will be the value on the day they were given to the receiver.

      • +1

So if someone sold the 20 shares at say $3 each, you have a capital lose of $140 despite the fact it cost you nothing in the first place as it's gifted?

What happens if I don't sell and just keep it? Is there any capital event happening?

    • +25

I called ATO to discuss this. Cost base is not 0.

Cost base is what they were worth when you inherited them.

      • +2

I've removed my comment above based on this new info. I don't want to spread misinformation

        • Same, my bad. Good on you for verifying with the ATO

      • Appreciate the follow up, thanks

      • In that case if you don't want to deal with ATO just sell them at less than the price you got and not worrying about not declare the captial lose as someone said ATO cares more about Capital Gains. Not an accountant so check with someone who knows more

        • Can you give example in numbers? Is this sarcasm on selling it at a loss? under cost base??

          • @PeeDee: Selling it below the gifted price I mean. Still need to check with accountant to see if not declare capital loss is ok or not

            • @Aerith-Waifu: that's so cheap! haha sure do it but where's the fun in that?

            • +1

@Aerith-Waifu: A person is a fair dinkum dill if they don't incorporate a capital loss into their tax return. It is literally throwing away a benefit ie. money.

              • @Charlie Dont Surf: would be miniscule capital loss I reckon, even if racking up all those $2000 free shares max, Tesla is around $220 last time I checked, even selling at $200 there's only $200 capital loss.

      • +3

If youre unsure what theyre worth when you inherited them. Use a website like sharesight, enter the amount you recieved + the day you got them and sharesight will tell youwhat the price was at the end of the day AND the AUD/Usd conversion at that time.

Its a good place to base your information for cost price.

      • Sweet. Nice to know!

      • take my + vote, you would've spent hours waiting to get thru to the ATO

      • You never "inherited" them though. Could you not treat them as bonus shares?

      • -2

Can you please explain what this means to me?
Is it taxable? Is there a way to pay no capital gains tax?

  • Do you get this if you refer someone?

    • Yes, it’s the same for referer. Can see it on my app

    • Yes both referrer and referee receives 20x AU$10

      • does the referrer need to be an Australian resident/citizen to get it

        • you need to already have an account with them, if they can accept ur ID then that'd be fine

      • I only received 10x $6.40 US (0.033 of a share) as Invitee-only welcome rewards. No idea how $40 X5 becomes $10 x10

        • Because you will receive another 10 in 30 days.

          $40 x 5 = $200

          $10 x 20 = $200

        • I have nothing so far after signing up and depositing. How long did it take for you?

  • -6

So have to wait a whole 30 days now to get the shares? At least before you got 5 or 15 instantly if you referred someone.

    • +3

      Who cares if it's 1c?

      • +3

Yeah. Invest 1c , wait 30 days, and get $200.

      • -6

Not so much care but compared to their past promos just keeps getting worse.

        • +1

I see this promo as better than the one that just ended though. Maybe not as good as first couple but this is better than previous few IMO.

        • +5

Keeps getting worse? What are you talking about, you get way more money that the last few incarnations of this offer.

        • +1

          Getting worse? Are you insane?
$200 (Give or take, depending how TSLA does) for free for doing like 5 minutes of work and waiting 30 days

I think you're the only one in this thread with that opinion buddy.

          • +2

@Empharand: I actually went back and looked at my original sign-up and then referrals I got back in March. Average total was AUD$175 per.

This was back when the shares you got were random and things like AAPL, AMZN and GOOGL scored you $20, $50, even $100. I was lucky to get a few AAPL and AMZN.

So this deal is way better. Guaranteed $200 each time with no chance of "a bad roll" that would otherwise mean getting less than $150 like previous deals.

          Username doesn't check out.
User doesn't seem to like freestuff that he has to be patient with

    • +3

      Username does not check out

  • +1

How do you sell the shares? Are the money banked into your bank account? Is there a fee for selling?

    • +4

Once they are transfered to you account you can sell them then transfer to a AU bank. There is a minsuciule fee but it is taken from the value of the shares sold so you don't have to worry about it, also a tiny fee converting from USD to AUD but again out of the free $200 a couple of dollars isn't going to matter.

Just be aware you can only sell when the US market is open. So not normal business hours if you live in Aus.

      • +1

Sounds too good to be true but I gave it a go, so I download the app first then what do I do? Says need to sign up with an eligible link, where do I find this link?

        • +2

You have to verify your identification. Plus the company is Chinese so… CCP bad and President Winnie will be watching you

        • +1

Nah it's just expensive customer acquisition costs. It's legit, trust us. You can fund any amount anyway

          • @Bladeyyy21: Why would they want to pay $200 per customer and mostly target freeloaders? It's unlikely big spenders are going to care as much.

            • +1

@CodeExplode: There are a few hoops to jump through plus the ID checks discourage farming, so while they are paying a lot for the users, they are getting genuine humans who have committed at least a bit. They must have some amount of conversion to people using the app to trade stocks. These fractional shares feel more like gambling than serious investing - at least that's how I use the shares I got from the last promo - worth 83AUD at this point. Maybe they are getting people with a penchant for gambling who aren't keen on sports betting. Until someone cashes out, I suspect the company still owns the actual full shares, so if users gamble and lose and keep adding funds, they profit.

              That's my best guess.

Click on the Referral link at the bottom of the OP to get a random OzBargainers link.

  • Got this on my account as well.

Got my 10 free shares after 30 days from my sign up too.

  • +1

Have had like 3 people use my code, hoping for 1 more always a nice superise checking the app, overall Webull has been pretty profitable for me

    • +3

Yeah I've made $1320 since March I think it was.

      • +1

So the $1320 goes into your last year's tax return?

        • I think it was $1234 last financial year, made more following a referral in September.

          • @wavesgreen: @wavesgreen solid effort! You don’t have to declare anything in current tax returns right? It’s only when you sell? Or have I got this wrong.

            • @dammit: Please consult a tax professional for tax advice.

      • Wow mogs my $400ish neverless free money is free money !!

        • +1

There was somebody in one of the threads back towards the start of the year when Webull had a Leaderboard with extra bonuses and they hit up all their friends and work colleagues to sign-up and they made AUD$3500+

          • +2

@wavesgreen: Wow, imagine having a holiday paid for purely from Webull

            An Ozbargainer's wetdream right there

            • +2

@Jetyy: It's certainly been the best deal I've come across on OzBargain with regard to $ return for effort made. It's essentially passive income once you've plopped your referral link in the OzB database.

Boost sims have been more profitable but way more work.

  • Hmm.

Literally just signed up a couple days ago for the 15 free shares.

Guess the early bird DOESN'T always get the worm…

It's the second mouse that gets the cheese.

  • Fund ANY amount and get 20 free fractional TESLA US shares $10 value each, total value $200

Not sure if it's funded by Tesla, as whenever Tesla shares drop, such offers crop up!!

  • +3

Umm does this mean you are owning a US domiciled share and therefor are going to have to deal with W-8BEN for US tax every 3 yrs?

    • +4

Get negged for asking a reasonable question? Crikey. Reason i ask is this is a requirement of the US Gov for investors outside the US who want to buy US shares. Without it, you typically have to pay a 30% tax on any share sale, plus a 30% tax on dividends. W8BEN as i understand removes the tax on sale, and reduces the tax on dividends.

      • +4

        Very good question!

        Answer:

As a client of Webull Securities (Australia) Pty. Ltd., we will offer the ability to have a W-8BEN form completed and lodged on your behalf by our licensed and regulated US clearing partner when you open an account with us. This service is free.

How do you transfer money into it? There is account number but there is no BSB number? There is only a 3 digital branch code?

    • click AUD your on USD im guessing

    • Have you gone thru to Transfers > Deposit > AUD ? Should have option to Transfer via Bank Transfer and it has BSB and all that.

      • Yeah did it, now it says the shares are expected to land on the 15th November

        Guess I am good

  • Do I need to invite new user only? What about my friend that already have webull?

    • +1

New users. You might get a referral reward if your friend hasn't funded their account but don't quote me on that.

  • +1

just got my 10 invites, cheers legend

  • Thanks. Referral sorted, tempted to send my code to the family group chat, any major issues? I was dealing with Raiz related tax delay messages for weeks previously haha
