If you're just googling for VPN reviews, you might end up reading a sponsored article with high SEO rankings. PC Mag, Cnet, Forbes, Techradar, TomsGuide are common examples where they are receiving some commission / kickbacks for recommending VPN services. They almost never talk about how bad a VPN is — they simply compare a handful of VPN's and give them all very generous star ratings of 4~5. The reviews are never in-depth and are surface-level only.
In some cases the VPN's themselves write their own glowing reviews

They were taken oven by Kape Technologies. You can find info about them everywhere (and probably a lot more recent) but I'll just leave this here:
Kape positions itself as a cybersecurity and digital privacy firm, but the company was previously known as Crossrider, and was notorious for distributing data-tracking adware. Kape was co-founded by a billionaire convicted of insider trading, and an ex-Israeli surveillance agent.
Kape Technologies changed their name in 2018 in order to go under a type of rebranding and "escape a strong association to the past activities of the company" through which they had issues with their previous image being associated with traffic manipulation.
Have been with PIA for years. Fast reliable never had an issue. What exactly are you referring to?
Suspect ownership and log sharing.
Even if you ain't doing dodgy things it's the principle that matters
I got it specifically to watch the BBC. It never worked
With other VPNs having 100% cashback more or less, this isn't really a deal.
Just wait for another ShopBack cashback deal, they often do 100%+ cashback deals for PIA, every few months or so.
1) a vpn is just another persons network, paid vpns are probably better than free ones/almost free ones(which probably mine ur data anyways).
2) if ur just concerned about ur isp datamining you or holding your metadata by australian law for 2 yrs, maybe just change ur DNS to a reliable free one, maybe cloudflare?
3) if u have a tin foil hat and u know some I.T, your best bet is probably setting up ur own vpn server on a ram vm hosted in another country anyways.
i think most vpn conscious people here just wait for the multi year, sharksurf/nord/pia 98%+ cachbacks and spinup new accounts.
It's harder to track someone if all the source and destination data is coming from a anonymised and logless location
The 2 year rule isn't enforced by any government body as evidenced by the enormous Optus hack in which 7+ year old data was being held because they "maybe could use it" someday.
If you think you can host a remote country VPN for less than $35 a year you are dreaming.
You can't even host a local VM with uptime of 8 hours in the AWS eastern cluster for that price.
Hi,
1) my first point was just stating simply that a vpn is just another persons network and its up to peoples own judgments to put trust into that service, just because a service says its logless doesnt 100% it is or if there is an issue with the service where if the hardware were subpoenaed from a federal agency things couldnt be recovered. For example, years ago wasnt one of NORD's vpn had a server which was not setup correctly by a third party and it was breached.
2) I was merely telling people that Australia does have a data retention law in place, and if they just didnt want their ISP logging basic metadata like websites visited they could just use a different DNS service which is freely available, instead of spending money on a VPN.
3) Concerns for cost was not written in my statement, i just said if you're crazy privacy nut and you know a bit more or are into I.T then there are a lot other ways than trusting a public/paid VPN service.
I am more using it to buy subscriptions cheaper, YouTube, Netflix etc
you can get a 95% to 100% cashback if you buy it through Topcashback. Nobody on Ozbargain ever pays $109 for PIA vpn's.
Bypassing geoblock never worked for Netflix and Prime.
5 years' sub is going to expire soon if someone can recommend one which can bypass geoblock and good for bt please do let me know thanks.
Windscribe
Shit vpn, mullvad or windscribe should be your only choices
Works a lot better than Windscribe for me.
Mullvad is the best vpn for privacy and has decent server speeds. I’ve used quite a few vpns
You can even buy 6 or 12 month voucher cards from Amazon now which should give you another layer of privacy. I think if you shred the voucher card after you use it they have no way of linking that payment back to your account so keep that mind if you want a receipt of sorts. I think it was cheaper than paying Mullvad directly too.
Any decent ones that aren't 5eyes connected or susceptible?
lol just get the cb deals some even had 105% back
Google search this company. Thank me later.
