What I really need is a deal for the smallest charger that charges a steam deck - i.e. smallest profile 45w charger. One that is basically the anker nano 3 size but at 45w.

So far the Samsung super fast charger 2.0, 45w meets the criteria.

    • +1

Really anything charges the Steam Deck if you're patient enough.

I know a 30W charger can keep up with the battery drain on semi-intensive games like NBA 2K, but if you're playing Cyberpunk or Baldurs Gate yeah gonna need the 45W

      Hoya

I personally love inline chargers. I think they're better than having a brick on the wall, especially if they're small / slim.

One unit that's such (if you're okay with it not being plugged directly onto a wall) that I daily drive is the WOTOBE 100W GaN. It's got a figure 8 port, and one usb C and 18w USB-A so it's perfect for Steam Deck and one more device like a phone, earphones/headphones.

They're about $50 on Aliexpress, you can't miss it.

In terms of a basic rundown/review, they perform quite well. Between 81-91% efficiency, which is up there, good ripple control, proper OCP/OVP, surge, overheat and short systems in place. It could have better Power Factor Correction which is a technique to efficiently use power from the grid without causing strain/load to the grid. However it's overall efficiency otherwise I think makes it a better option than a lot of other units despite that.

If you want a boxy block unit, the Nano 65W cube unit is decent.

Unfortunately we are limited in options because one of the biggest hurdles for power blocks is the prongs because they limit to a market/require an additional manufacturing line. The are a lot of units on aliexpress that are better than 90% of the garbage online that require IEC cables but that's not always ideal for everyone.

      • Thanks @smoothcactus.
Mind me asking what's the benefit of a figure 8 port over none at all?

        • Longer reach from the wall using the figure 8 cable.

Easy to adapt for travel with a local cable for wherever you're going.

    • Check out Anker powerport atom if you want a slim charger

  • Any good reviews on the 65W Anker ???

bleh, never mind deals Anker… can we please just get your good/new products available to us in Australia???

Would be really nice to be able to easily buy things like the Magsafe Cube

    • +4

Yeah I wish companies would realize how ripe of a market Australia is for chargers. There are basically zero GOOD brands that have captured the market, and people are starting to realize this.

It's hard to compete with the likes of heymix though when they can read identical spec for spec while costing users upwards of 40% extra electricity due to horrible efficiency and loss.

The only people that have figured it out are Zyron, and they're good, I recommend some of their stuff quite often. But they are also limited in size and production capacity/means so they have been relying on preexisting products from China that they've rebranded. They're not bad, a few suck. But for the most part they are good… But it's not extremely innovative.

    • I've been waiting for the MagSafe Cube too! Looks like a great product with great reviews. How long do we have to wait???

  • GaN Charger

  • is the power bank safe for flights?

    • -5

you will need to get approval for each flight from the 30W one.

        • -1

The airline's websites says you can't if over 100 watt-hours without approval.

If the battery is clearly marked as < 100Wh, then you should be fine.

          • +3

@jv: So looked up a video by 'wwjoshdew' on his anker 537 review on youtube, he shows the back of the power bank it is 88.56 Wh (~1 min 54 sec). Should be fine.

Im after a 100W charger, any good ones people can recommend? From Anker or other? ideally with 3 USB C points

Powerpod 100W GaN 3 Travel Charger

No idea if its good. SmoothCactus rates Zyron products pretty highly (AUS domiciled)

      • +1

Doesn't look like it got PPS 2.0 or its just me, cant find. JV's one says it got.

    • +1

i got this 140w one for 37$ delivered in like a week or two, https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005848266705.html . I havent really tested its full potential but it charges good and supports super fast charging and shows wattage so you can see when device is charging fastest

      • +2

        Page not found.
Though im not 100% convinced on some of these "Chinese charger" hear stories some a faulty and cause fires. Prefer to stick to a more reputable brand

        • +1

its an asometech which is same as toocki but comes with au plug included. apparently its one of the best chinese brand ones according to what ppl were saying on ozb and it seems pretty good. i havnt maxed it out but my house is still standing unscorched so im happy… for now…

    • I can throw a few suggestions.

1.Are you able to buy off aliexpress? There's a lot of much better options that are cheaper too if so.

      1. Do you want something that attaches onto the wall or are you okay with something that has a short kettle or iec 8 figure cable that plugs into it. The latter has much better options available if so.

      2. Do you need PPS charging for Samsung Phones or do you have any Chinese Phones like Oppo/Huawei, etc that have non standard proprietary charging systems.

  • whats the limit for powerbank to bring onto airflight?

    • When you find out, let us know.

    • +2

      100wh

    • It's about 30,000mAh.

Ideally what you want to look at is the Watt Hour or Wh, which is written on the power bank. As long as it's under 100Wh you can take it on, and most airlines will allow greater if you absolutely need to but you need to fill in a request/authorization form.

  • Order XXX was canceled because of unforeseen circumstances and your payment has been voided.

tried ShopPay/PayPal with few different banks and home then mobile data IP address, pending charge disappears within minutes then email quoted above, four attempts rejected

think it's just a me problem

    • +1

happened to me too, so it's not just you

    • +1

It happened twice to me as well, it seems like they are having issues processing payments…

    • works now, used guest checkout via mobile data

  • Man i just bought this 2 weeks ago. It was $39 dollars but I offered and paid $34 for one on ebay.

  • Is 65w considered good these days for power banks of this size? Or should I aim a bit higher for future proofing? I'm a bit out of the loop.
And is this a good price? Surely I could get something decently cheaper with some patience?

    • +1

I think this is all time low price for the 65w.

I have the Romoss 18W from Amazon and I reckon this Anker is way better coz of the size. The Romoss is huge
