I got this 32 gig and 1tb, pretty happy with it

    • How's battery life?

      • +1

Decent, but that's comparing to my old dell G7 9th gen intel

Let's go Cash Rewards, back to 15% please 🤞

32GB RAM upgrade has been discounted to $69, wasn't the case during previous posts ($300).

    • yea it's cheaper than when I bought it.

funny that you can't upgrade ram if you update CPU, not sure if this is a bug, but it was like this last time as well, i couldn't get a response from lenovo on why

      • Their builder is so weird and often buggy, I had the same experience trying to mix and match stuff that should work but simply wouldn't. They set strange prerequisites and mutually exclusive rules for sure.

The best deal was when all upgrades were bugged and didn't update the price, some specced out machines would have been bought that day!

    Great deal thanks OP

      Me too

  • As a general rule with such laptops do people plan on doing a thermal repaste after some years or does it last the lifetime of the laptop?

    • I repasted my G15 dell after 2 years, massive drop in temp, where the CPU used to hit 100 when playing, it's now hovering around 88-89. And I'm only using arctic mx4 paste, nothing fancy like thermal grizzly.

I upgrade to 32gb and 1tb ssd. Superb machine

    • Yep. I was really annoyed that the memory upgrade last time was bundled with the 4070 upgrade as well and was like $369 or something. With 1tb and 32gb would be perfect I reckon.

Is the 4060 good for studying?

    • +1

      … depends what you're studying

  • Dammit! Been waiting so long for the release of the slim 7 AMD (16 inch, gen 8) version with the 7840HS.
When are they going to release it?! I've been asking lenovo and they never get back to me

Be aware cashrewards was 14% 4 weeks ago and 15% on Tuesday. The Lenovo codes have been around quite a lot so I would wait for a decent CR rate. I think this laptop has been on sale for pretty much 4 weeks??

    • Yep, this same laptop was available during the 18% Cashback I posted about last week, for the same price.

I know this because I bought one!

It surely is a matter of days before another opportunity presents itself.

      • +1

Agreed best to wait it out, although the $300 vs $69 32gb ram upgrade almost offsets the missing cashback.
Best would be to double up both of them in the next week if CR or SB come to the party

        • Yep… exactly… pretty bummed I missed the 32GB ram upgrade ….

I know this is probably apples and oranges, but I'd love some advice. Recent thought of switching to all apple devices (MacBook, ipad, phone), have thus far bought iPad and am really enjoying.

But before I was planning to make that jump, this is exactly what I was after..

So what I should I buy, spec'd out 15" MacBook air for about 2.5-3k or this.

Important things for me are, good screen for watching movies, editing photos in Lightroom, editing videos, longevity (current Lenovo yoga is 7 years old), making music in bitwig.

I don't currently play games much on the laptop, but it's possible in the future.

    • +2

Go for a Macbook if you're wanting what you mentioned. Get this if you're thinking of playing games that are more intensive than indie titles.

      • +1

Indie titles are probably all I'm after, thanks for the response

    • Hey I am a fellow bitwiger.

If you're not using big sample libraries you can totally use 8gm of ram. I switch between a top spec intel mac 15 inch with 16 gb of ram and a m1 mac mini with 8gb of ram and find the mini to be faster. I open have 20+ of tabs open without issue because the swap memory works so fast. The only issue I ever come across is switching between projects in bitwig; I might have 3 projects open and I want to copy bits between then and it lags a bit. Other then that works great.

I haven't edited photos in ages and i bet file sizes are huge and so 16 gb is probably well worth it for that application.

With that said if I could get a laptop as quiet, cold with a good build quality that had 90% of the battery of a macbook that ran windows I would really like that but it does not exist.

      • Thanks so much, I think I'll go 16gb for the photo editing, but bitwig at the moment is a pain when I have multiple VST plugins running.

        Appreciate the intel

    • depends on your budget, how many storage you want, and if you want to carry out or use at home.

this, more powerful with oled screen, but battery life is not as good. good to use at home or at office with charger around.

MacBook Air 15, can use without charger, good to carry out. But expensive, with more money, you have to live with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. While this, 32GB RAM 1TB storage and you can easily add the second m2 ssd.

  • +1

Yeah I'm gonna need that sweet 15-18% CR and I'll jump

  • Thank you OP - ordered one. Chat rep managed to get the price down to $2K flat with 32GB soldered RAM upgrade. Very happy - it should come in handy for upcoming travels to Queensland and Japan.

    • +1

Note that negotiated prices void the cashback, but if it's only the 3% you only came out slightly behind, but you don't need to wait for the cashback your way

  • +1

    Thanks OP,

I've been looking for a replacement for my G14 and this fits the bill nicely.

  • Am I missing something? Comes up over $3k for me 😔
