You can download from Itunes but its a paid upgrade
I just printed out the HT web page and took it to my local Office Works (Werribee) where they matched the price and handed me an 8 gig Ipod touch version 2, yes version 2… Not version 1, version 2, I can't believe it… The box does not state what version Touch it is and the guy did not know. So I got it for $179, they did not beat it by 5% but hey I no complain. I love OFWs… You should go there.

I called Officeworks to check if they had any in stock, apparently only CBD2 has 2 in stock.
The guy told me this before I asked about price matching so I doubt he was playing shifty.

Tried it as well… Was close - 4 different people checked up on it - the 4th one spotted the V1 V2 difference. Otherwise the guy had his stock out ready to hand over.

Tried ringing both Harvey Norman and Officeworks with no luck.
I just got mine from officeworks. They charged me $190.67 (including the delivery cost) but who can complain.
it was the gen 2 8gb. three guys who worked there almost sh*t themselves when they looked at the harris tech website to confirm the price. The manager said can you print that out for me too to another employee. cant believe my luck…NSW? which store?
Woo! Got mine from Officeworks and they price matched. I just made sure I got a young person who wouldn't question the ad.
Also: I printed out the checkout page only with my delivery postcode inserted, and showed him that first. Then, I had the first page with the image on it and showed him that to confirm it. He went out the back, got the Touch and sold it to me. Sweet as.
Real shame it's the last one they had in the 8GB. I begged him to check for another at the price I got mine at, but no luck.

To everyone who wants to know how I managed to do it:
- Go to the normal item page: http://www.ht.com.au/keyword/ipod+touch/part/V1528-Apple-iPo…
- Click onto 'Add to Cart'
- Click 'Go to Shopping Cart'
- Enter your postcode, click 'Update' to display shipping
- Print the page.
There's really nothing special about the page - it's exactly how it is now. You'll need to do it for yourself because my postcode is most probably different to yours.
My advice though: go up to a young staff member and try and get them to help you. It worked for me, but I'm not saying it will for anyone else (see above comments).
EDIT: For anyone else in Townsville, QLD, there aren't any more 8GB Touches left. Sorry :)
I checked the Dick Smith Website and I think that they have 1st Gen Ones so they should match it. Also Harris Technology is selling the 16gb for $259. It does not mention that it is 1st gen but I think it is because it matched the manufacturers code on dick smith's website for the 1st gen.
Good luck man! DSE usually always call the competitor to confirm the price and availability. They are not as "stupid" as Coles' Officeworks. :)

I ordered the iPod Touch for pick up from Fortitude Valley store yesterday when there were plenty of stock in Brisbane (7 in Indoorpilly, 6 in Fortitude Valley for pick up) . After I made my order, the online stock availability was updated minus the iPods I ordered.
This morning I received an email from HT, saying that my order for the iPod can not be fulfilled because its discontinued product.
Not very happy.
I get the suspicion they accidentally sold the stock on location.same on me, I ordered online for delivery (was showing 2 available for delivery) before I post this deal, got the email this morning 'can not be fulfilled because its discontinued product' not happy!!!
Ordered yesterday on ht website and got a similar email. Checked online this morning and they had 16gb on sale of $259 with only 1 available nationally at Indooropoly. Called ht and offered to pay postage to have item shipped from QLD to NSW, total payable $270. The fellow reluctantly put my order through. I then called the store to confirm they will post and spoke to Ronnie who advised that it is a display model with slight scrathes on the back so he will sell it to me for $245 + $10 postage. Went to Harvey Norman store in Syd CBD and picked up a brand new one for $270.
This was a great deal, they were happy to say in stock when i placed my order and accept my payment then i recieve an email this morning saying they have no stock and are unable to forfil the order.
Sounds like dell.
Actually they are much better than Dell…at least they are fast in contacting their customers.
But when they offered me the 2nd generation 8GB for $329 I just told them to stuff it.
You can get it online from the Apple store for $329 with free engraving and free postage.

Went to officework store in West Ryde Sydney @ mid day, After checking with couple of fallows, one guy Rang HT to confirm the 16GB ITOUCh price $259.. HT told them they don't have stock any more… So Officework told me, they can't match the price b'se HT don't have it in stock… they only match the price, if stock is available… NO LUCK !!!

I went to OfficeWorks Today. Matched the 16GB Price they gave me a 1st Gen One. I turn it on and it actually had songs and pics in it so I returned it. They told me that another store has it so I went to pick it up and I was hoping it was going to be the 2nd gen one but It was 1st. So I returned it. Was the 16gb 1st Gen worth $259?

i tried officeworks at marion - no go, i tried at noarlunga - yessssss i got one, i tried at prospect - yessss got another one, i tried at keswick - a big stuff around but no luck (i was told a few people have tried to get it there!!!). both of the ones i got were 8gb gen 2, so i dont have to pay for an upgrade… Also i payed $190.67 (harris tech cost of gen 1 plus delivery)
you may also want to try kmart, target and the good guys as i think they price match too.

They could not find it on the Harris Tech website and they were having computer issues so they gave me the benefit of the doubt… ;) I was asked was that the 16gb or the 8gb… I felt too guilty saying it was the 16gb…

no bs. there password was not working for the harris tech login. i just asked to get an ipod touch as per the price i got matched at another officeworks. he said sure. he could only find the 32g version on the harris website (he was a bit of a numbnuts) so he asked me was that the 8g or 16g he didnt even ask to see my receipt.

i would not have been successful if the harris tech site said G1 instead of V1
i never showed a printout of the site to anyone, just verbal, then the staff members looked at the harris tech site. no-one even noticed the not available for delivery statement.
I got one at Mount Gravatt Officeworks in Brisbane (1st Gen). There is still one 1st gen left at Capalaba Officeworks, but you'll have to work hard to get it. Over the phone they said they would do it, but when I got there I got screwed around and ultimately they said no…but it's there if someone else wants to have a go (1 will do me).

Depends where you're price matching and if a Harris Technology store is close to you. Eg: For me, I live in North QLD and HT is nowhere near me, so I (like I've mentioned above) took in the print out from their website, with postage costs marked, and then they matched it.
It's all down to where you go, who you talk to, and if they're willing to just do it. Thankfully, mine were :)

As in, how much they have to pay for ipods.not much. the margin on ipods is miniscule. its the accessories where they make the money which is why managers tend to be pretty pushy with selling them with the music player and salesman throw them in to make the sale.
