Use this if that link is not working.
ThinkPad Edge E530 is on the bottom.

  • Hot price!!

  • wow awesome deal, but its seems the price is for students, will they honour it for others?

  • You might be able to get $50 from PowerBuy, someone can verify.

LENOVOSEP2012 didnt work.. nice try tho =)

    • Powerbuy no longer will give you cash back if you buy from the Lenovo store

if you go to customize, you can get the NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M for the same price. and for 10.56 more you can add the 1600x900 screen.

    • well spotted!

  • Is it just me, but it doesnt say AC adapter?! (part of optional extras??)

I guess its logical/implied.. "Adding an extended life or a spare battery will increase your unplugged time. A second AC adapter or an AC/DC Auto/Air combo adapter will ensure you never lose your charge."

  • +2

Actually if you go to the Products page and then look for the link that says Thinkpad Edge E530, there's a similar one for 677.48, except it comes with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M Graphics with 2GB VRAM (WWAN or mSATA capable, and for 10.45 more you can upgrade the screen res to 1600x900 (but I think your laptop has to be heatwave red), which brings it to 686.37 - is that a better deal? Anyone know if there's much different between the NVIDIA 630M and the 635M?

    • +1

      ahh beaten!

      • They where quick to mark up the price!! $713.15 inc. GST I saw it for $677.48, just reading reviews and wham the price goes up.. I hate big companies, always trying to squeeze the consumer.. was about to buy it, and now am ticked off.

        • haha $805.44 inc. it must be a helium laptop, it reflects there pricing strategy, sad :(

Just wandering.. if the previous price was less, and now they advertised the product as "NEW", implying that this is a new model (even if its a new laptop), aren't they being a little cheeky? Yep I'm annoyed that within 2 hours they jacked up the price over $100.. just seems wrong to me.

          Probably expired at 12.. maybe.

  • Bah

I jumped on the JB Samsung I7 $678 deal earlier today.

I think the Samsung's CPU is slightly more powerful but you get an extra 2gb ram and double the dedicated graphics with the Lenovo.
The Lenovo seems a little more chunky to me but not to much of a difference.
I was reading horror stories on a Lenovo E320 thread about warranty horrors, I always thought of these machines to be very reliable and warranty to be great with them?

I'm not a student, is it difficult to dodge an order without being a student?

    • I think the Samsung's CPU is slightly more powerful but you get an extra 2gb ram and double the dedicated graphics with the Lenovo.

The CPU on the Samsung looks to be a slightly higher clocked version of the Lenovo's, and does perform slightly better in benchmarks (in most cases)

RAM is easily upgraded, so I don't think that should come into the equation overly much, since there are other, non-replaceable parts that matter slightly more.

On the graphics card issue - you can feel safe with your purchase. Benchmarks show that the 7670M fares about 5% better than the 630. Though you should probably note that, since mobile graphics cards are fairly low-powered, relative to the desktop variants, the difference would probably be negligible

  • Wow this must be my first big ticket impulse buy. Ruh roh. Went with the 635M with the 1600x900 display, and I don't mind red - price seems to change a bit? It came out to 693.60 - did it through starthere as well, which is meant to be an additional 3.5% cashback, so hopefully that'll come through and it'll bring it down to 669.324.. which is a pretty decent price to pay for a laptop that can play Diablo III (hopefully well enough :S) Thanks OP!

  • Bought a E420 two days ago…
power on, a vertical line showed on screen, exchanged yesterday.
today, open up the back cover(to install my SSD), what? two screws are missing on the HDD bracket.
drive back to city again, ask them to put the screws back.
    both E420 are original sealed

    • +3

Taking a laptop back to get two screws put back in? That is worthy of a spot in the Ozbargain tightarse hall of fame.

      • The HDD is hanging there by sata and power connector, it probably won't break the connector but a quick move can make it come out of it!

  • At this rate, what's my chances of getting a 3rd Gen i7 with standalone graphics for under $600 in November??? It's getting harder and harder to justify the sub $400 laptop deals…

I think the retailers are testing us now so we should all play hard to get :)

    "Pre-Built" is unclear… do they mean Pre-OWNED?

All laptops/netbooks I've purchased in AU came Pre-Built.

    • +2

      Pre-built = Non-customisable specs ie pre-chosen parts

    • And your point?

      • I don't see it neither. It is a bargain for students. You could have said "OP pls update that it is for students only". So your reason for neg?

        • bargain for the broke ass students? dude I am one but even if I was not I would just get it!
(if I wanted it… you cant force me to buy it)

        • -1

          its a neg fest

It's a great deal but a lot of owners report the pulsating fan issue with this model:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge/E530-pulsing-whiny…

  • You can click through via the customisable version of this laptop and get the 1600x900 screen for $722.50 (use the same coupon code in this post).

    BTW deal isn't expired

  • Just be away from EXXX, this is a series of low quality, low price Thinkpad. For the same price, try other brands.

To anyone else who bought this deal, or who is willing to help, there's some good deals on SSD's at the moment - what's the best way of putting those into this computer? I'm hoping for a situation where I can put in the SSD as my main drive, and have the 750gb hard drive as storage - so I'm guessing it'll be the DVD drive that needs to be taken out? Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

    • +1

The cheapest way is to get a 12.7mm HDD caddy from ebay. Both the HDD and ODD bays are SATA3. Alternatively, you could just replace the HDD with the SSD, keep the DVD drive in and buy an external HDD enclosure. Don't forget the E530 also has a mSATA port supporting SATA2 speeds for a mSATA SSD.
