    No comments. Too busy buying.

    • +6

      But this was a comment?

  • teflon is a no for sure

    • +1

      Is it that bad?
I haven't done research, just heard anecdotal warnings

      • +4

        Not really.
2013 and before, teflon was bad as it has PFOA.
But it hasn't had it since.

There has been a study that showed cracked teflon can release microplastics, but lets be real and admit our food is already filled with them.
Though you really shouldn't be scratching your air fryer anyway.

      • Anything that's obviously/clealry/very bad - e.g. DDT, lead, etc are all banned. So what we're left with are new compounds, and those that are borderline or "anecdotally" bad.

        • +5

Once the company's like Du Pont and Bayer & Bayer have made enough cash it'll be an issue.

There are no free rides in nature, triclosan, plastics and silicosis being the latest examples of our collective "oh shit/of course" moments.

And sunscreen comes to mind but somehow it hasn't been outlawed yet.
It's cool it just destroys coral and waterways, it's not like people wear sunscreen in the water right?

        • +1

"Anything that's obviously/clealry/very bad - e.g. DDT, lead, etc are all banned"

Have you thought that through…. Obviously everything banned was thought OK and in use, until it was found to be harmful and got banned. Things get banned on an ongoing basis. Therefore there are things in use right now that will be banned in future. So saying that we can't be harmed because all the harmful things are already banned clearly isn't logical.

Not to mention that there are things banned in other countries but not here. So things that are here harming us ARE banned, just not here. We have followed other countries in banning things, before which people were harmed.

PFAS is the category of them. And all the PFAS is not biodegradable and potentially being toxic. Of course it is super useful, but Not good for your health and no good for the environment.

        • Yeah - that's the way how giant gets away from restriction by banning one sub category and make other variants safe to use.

Or….. no noticed harm to human as of now.

The economy incentive and ease-of-use often out-weight health concern.

          Happy shopping.

        • Yes PFAS are an example of how something toxic can be on the market for as long as decades before being exposed as toxic. The manufacturers knew they were toxic but promoted them as an amazing breakthrough. https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/dupont-3m-pfas-f…

      • It peeled off when I cleaned it with spongue. but just small chunk. Otherwise it's a great deal

    • +2

Yes that’s the reason I don’t have one yet - have you found one that’s not Teflon?

      • +1

Ninja a160 - it uses ceramic.

    • What do you own or recommend then? I need to replace an air fryer that was given to me and now im a fan although i do like the idea of the grill type ones better

  • +5

Have this and been using it almost everyday!

Definitely a great purchase for anyone in the fence for an airfryer

    • +1

      Same here , rip oven

      • @Gaeb can it fit whole chickan ?

        • +1

Haven't cooked a whole chicken yet. According to google, the capacity is enough for it but I think it might be an tight fit

        • +2

I'd recommend butterflying a chicken open for much faster, crispier and juicier results. Takes about 1-2 mins tops to do.

          • @donman92: probably cooks faster too ive never butterfreed a chiken
i was going for the roast chicken (with stuffing) type deal ..

          • @donman92: Second this. I've tried a (small) whole chicken in this thing and it sucked. Butterflying is required IMO

            • @ArgentLynx: Butterflying any day over leaving whole for everything (oven, airfryer, pan, etc). Looks more evenly + prev mentioned reasons.

        • It can easily cook a whole chook, up to just under 2kg.

      • It's a plus for me since my oven is a bit old and has inconsistent heating

  • I have an oven style Buffalo air fryer and its alright, I bought it from that cheapest Amazon price and holymoly I haven't used the Buffalo since (unless the basket needs washing). Pizza's reheated in this is even better than fresh, everything else also comes up amazing. Costco's sweet potato chips + this airfryer is so damn good.

    • +4

why does your fryer look like a supervillain

      • +1

Or one of the members from daft punk

      • Bahaha, now I can't unsee it. I got the blue white one, but the red black one does remind me of deadpool

  • +1

Ouch paid $159 for this just last week.

    Decent air fryer

    • Same here 😭

      • +7

I spoke with customer service, and was able to receive a $48 credit!

It will only apply to orders sold by Amazon AU - it won't show up as giftcard credit or anything unfortunately but better than nothing!

        • +1

Are you a prime member? They don’t give me anything when i asked for price difference.

          • +1

@OhNoUShiz: Me either, they say “we don’t offer price guarantees on that product”
This actually happened to me when I bought this fryer a year ago, and I returned it and bought it again, a hassle but I did it out of principle

          • @OhNoUShiz: Yes I'm a Prime member

        • Can you please share how?

I'm a prime member btw. Not sure if that helps or makes it worse

          • +1

@bisaya: Order a new one , send the “old” one back ;)

            • @J5: Was about to suggest the same.
Order a new one, send it back using the old receipt / order number.

              • @karseeeejaaaa: Seems like a hassle. I'd rather just try chat and if no luck move on.
Should I hand in my ozbargainer badge haha

                • @bisaya: $48 is at stake here
Chat with the Amazon executive 5-10 mins, success rate - low (I’ve tried in the past and failed)
Purchase new and return old - 30 mins (includes time to go to AusPost for return)

Everyone would have their own preferences :)

          • @bisaya: I went to https://www.amazon.com.au/hz/contact-us/foresight/hubgateway
Clicked on the airfryer purchase > Better price found elsewhere > I need more help > live chat

I don't quite remember what I had said but it was something like:

I purchased it last week for $158, but now it has dropped in price to $110 within the week.
Is there anything that can be done about this sudden drop, as a Prime member?

            • @barydos: You legend. Thanks heaps as that worked, getting a "one-off" exception refund of the difference

    • +3

Buy this and refund the other order.

      • -1

Will they take back the used one?

        • +4

Send back the new one on the old order

  • +2

Got this nearly 3 years ago , a month after it was first available for $167. Great fryer.

Great price but be aware it’s a 3 year old model.

    • Is there a newer model?

      • +3

There is but it has the glass front so you can see through. Apparently it gets really hot so I went with the old model

    • does it matter.. its $110.. I got this last deal and its been great

    • Liquidation sale

    • +1

That's the company in USA, and they've applied for bankruptcy protection. Very different machanism from being declared bankrupt /insolvent in Australia.

    • +3

“ Instant Pots, which became must-have gadgets several years ago, have been disappearing from kitchens.”
The ABC writer thinks theft might a problem too.

    • +1

who cares.. this comes up ever post.. its a $110 Air Fryer.. Mines been perfect for 12 months.. If it dies I'm hardly going to cry

  • Have this and a cheaper Kogan air fryer. They work equally as well in my opinion.

But at this price it's a no brainer.

  • Does this fit a duck? How well does it do with crowded chips :-)

    • Too shallow, but good with crowded chips

  • +1

How is this compared to https://www.amazon.com.au/Instant-Pot-Multi-Use-Pressure-Sta…
As this one also has air fryer/crip function?

Also, how much space is 5.7L? Can I do half chicken? Whole chicken? I heard that 7L is better?

    • +1

This one can do both air fryer and pressure cooking and it's 8L, it's definitely larger than 5.7L. half a chicken or whole chicken depending on the size.

      • Yup. I'm wondering whether the result for fry/crisp with multi-use pot is just as good as the air-fryer one

      • +2

Have the standard airfryer and bought this multi for my mum

Ironically it didnt work out of the box

        Yeh nah it isnt bigger

Ive got both an instant multi cooker and the normal airfryer

Far better having the seperate units

    • +2

I have the instant pot pressure cooker and OP's air fryer as separate. Both are great. What held me back from getting the combined one was that in most kitchens you won't be able to store it with the air fryer lid on it (height-wise), so it effectively takes up double the footprint. In which case it was better to get two distinct machines if it was going to take up two machine footprints anyway.

  • I still have the Mistral 10L Air Fryer which works well. Anyone compared the two? Worth buying this one as an upgrade?

    • This is half the capacity 5.7L

  • Just go ahead and buy it!

  • +2

Does anyone use airfryer liners? Can anyone recommend any?

  • Was just about to buy it until saw that the teflon peel off after few months.

    • +2

      It doesn’t.

The coatings on these machines are top notch, better than most but not indestructible.

      • My tray is peeling. No dishwasher. Have considered a third party one. Otherwise happy with this airfryer

        • $24.99 for a new one.

          https://instantbrands.com.au/products/ipreplacementpart-vort…

Currently out of stock but it should return

        • Mine scratched in one very small spot easily with a non scratch sponge.

It's probably just unlucky quality control

        • I emailed Instant Vortex as mine has peeled a fair bit with only a sponge + handwash in under 4 months, they are sending me a free replacement.

    • Don't put it in dishwasher

      • -1

        Dishwasher is fine

    • Came on here to see if there were any similar comments. Just saw that my coating is coming off as well but we only hand wash. Not sure if I should still be using it but pretty annoyed about it

      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/126302/108169/20231110…

  • Do I need it? nah. Do I want it? Yah.

  • The number of times I’ve seen this particular product posted makes me a little sus. Why is it always on sale and going lower? I mean it’s not like it’s a loss leader of any type.

    • Who cares.. It's $110.. if you want it buy it. Im sure Amazon is not losing $$

  • +1

Are these better than Kmart ones?

  • Might not be as good as my Ninja foodi grill but this is an amazing price. Likely get it as a present for an upcoming christening.

    • is yours the AG551?

  • +1

    This or the Phillips deal?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/803625

Fairly large price difference though. So may not be fair comparison
