  • Just a heads up, catering supply store heavy duty full stainless steel tongs are usually about half this price and last a lot longer than stuff like this.

I’ve tried really hard to stop buying junk kitchenware that needs to be thrown out on a regular basis.

    • +1

Maybe I am easier on my tongs than most but I own these and can't imagine needing to replace them regularly.

    • +8

Have you owned or used these OXO tongs? They're solid A.F.

    • +5

Oxo tongs are decent quality, I wouldn’t put these in the junk kitchenware category

Wanna share some links of these better value tongs?

Things like this. If you like the OXO tongs go for it, but I prefer full metal tongs rather than utensils with plastic inserts etc. I use most of my tongs for charcoal barbecue and high heat cooking so don’t like having anything but metal.

they're totally different products for different uses…

@dirkgonnadirk: The only reason you need the plastic tipped tongs is for non stick pans. Except non stick coatings pretty much all eventually fail and your tong tips will melt through as well, so you end up having 2 pieces of kitchenware you need to throw out eventually.

Get a carbon steel pan that you can season and heavy duty stainless steel rings, both from catering kitchenware shops and you’ll never have to throw either out. Spend under $100 and never have to worry about your coating peeling off again.

I thought this was ozbargain, ie you try to buy it for life rather than buying limited lifespan stuff because it’s cheap…

@Whodis: I agree that the nylon tipped ones are generally only needed for nonstick, and I prefer cast iron/carbon steel. But I have a nonstick pan and I have these Tongs, as well as the standard oxo ones, and they are incredible.
They are now 5 years old and they are used daily, $10 for the oxo ones is a deal and I can't imagine finding better Tongs

              • @Phesto: Like I said, to each their own, and if you like them, great, at least we know they’re not crappy. It’s not like I negged the deal or anything, it’s more if you don’t need tipped ones, catering shop ones will likely outlive you.

    • I've had a pair of these for years, they are still going strong.

  • +1

We have these tongs. Mechanically all is fine after multiple years, but the rubber on the so has written and now it is sharp metal.

    • +3

      What did it write?

      • +3

Whoops, I have a very broke phone screen atm…

We have these tongs. Mechanically all is fine after multiple years, but the rubber circle on the end has worn and now it is sharp metal. Can be a little painful to lock the tongs now.

        • +1

Exactly why I don’t buy tongs with the tips, but of course I can’t have a differing opinion without being negged because people are jerks.

        • +1

What's your phone screen's Paypal? So we can send it a few bucks

    • why isnt is silicone tips?

      • Any sort of coating over the tip will eventually fail.

      • The actually tongs and tips are fine. It's the ring that controls the locking mechanism which has rubber wear.

wonder why the plastic of my OXO tongs was melted/softened over time?

    • Because plastic cooking utensils are generally not going to last forever.

    • I find that my Dishwasher degrades the rubber/plastic over time

Of all the incomprehensible ozb posts, these overpriced tong posts are the least comprehensible. You can get the same thing for half this price at any Kmart/Target/Coles/etc. Get one with a silicone grabby bit and it will last a long time.

  • No longer out of stock at Amazon.com.au, but no longer $10.80…now upwards of $21
