                  @jv: OMG CAT5e there's your problem, you need CAT 6A cable with extra fat AWG so that you spend 2hrs trying to get the wires throught the rj45 socket slots?
                  So while you're fixing your cabling you need the ASUS USB-AC53 Nano.

    According to 3C’s RRP is closer to $30 with a few dips here and there to $20… still decent price.
    Curious how well this would work without a decent antenna?
    Would jump on it but also need BT :-(

    I'm guessing it may state AC1200 but that's the theoretical speed of the internal processing chip. The actual bandwidth throughput of this would be a fraction of that due to the tiny antenna inside of this tiny USB adapter. It would probably be even way slower than the laptops internal Wi-Fi. You can't fit a good antenna inside of some thing so small. Trust me these will be crap. Good luck with that.

    You need some thing like this WiFi USB adapter for it not to be pathetic. Larger antenna inside of it means way better speed and signal strength. But of course it does cost a lot more. You get what you pay for.

      A WiFi card would beat this hands down. Bigger antennas to pick up a better signal.

      You can only fit a tiny antenna into a Nano USB WiFi adapter.

          I assume it's for a desktop PC. Those cheap WiFi cards off Aliexpress would be crap. You're better off going with a brand name and one with a removable antenna base which can sit on a desk for a better signal strength. For example this one is about $68 but you get what you pay for. That would knock the socks off this pathetic Nano USB WiFi adapter.

            @hollykryten: Nah fenvi cards are pretty decent. No reason to buy this one from TP link for over twice the price of the fenvi one since they both use Intel cards.

            @hollykryten: AliExpress wifi cards are fine, they have a little laptop sized PCIe slot with Intel 7260 or Intel AX200 in it which just has electrical passthrough to desktop size PCIe slot and some antenna mounts on the back.

            I have used heaps of them and the antennas they come with are good if the PC is on the desk. You can always buy a desk mount magnetic base antenna if the PC you're putting it into is trapped in a cupboard or under a thick desk.

            I have also bought tp-link ones when I need one in a hurry and they are the same performance.

            @wt860: Have you tried the Windows 10/11 driver direct from the manufacturers web site?. I wonder if that might be needed to get the Bluetooth part of it working. I'm guessing it would be the latest driver that there is for it.

            @wt860: For the Bluetooth to work you need to connect the cable that goes from the card into a USB2 header on your motherboard.

          Depends what you're using it for. I've had bad luck with alexpress dongles.
          One of them had an antenna sticking out, the antenna was too heavy, and it snapped the PCB (just with it's own weight).
          Another one had driver issues in linux, chipset wasn't reporting it's self properly.

    Wont recommend buying this tbh. I got it free from BPCTech when buying prebuilt. It works temporary okish if you need wifi for your very old laptop. Used it for like 2 months and the signal keep dropping randomly. If you're using PC, i suggest the Fenvi 3000ax usb which you can get on Aliexpress for 25$ (It use 8832cu Realtek chip which can connect 5ghz/6ghz wifi at 2400mbps). If you want reputable brand, there's an Ugreen 1800ax usb on Amazon for around 40-50$ iirc.

      Have you had any experience with the Ugreen one? I have the Pix Link usb (similar to Fenvi) and the setup was atrocious, couldn't connect to an active network, but I got it to work. I kinda want something more reliable just in case it breaks again.

        The Ugreen one is reputable brand so you prolly wont have any problem with the driver. Im using the Fenvi one and yes, the driver could be glitchy at the start (when i turn on pc, sometimes has to re attach the usb). But apart from that, the speed is as fast as advertised and im really satisfied. It never drop once connect and working.

    Don’t be fooled by the AC1200 rating, these nano adaptors with tiny integrated antennas can’t reach anywhere near the advertised speeds. BTW this is a pretty old adaptor, I bought this exact same one about 5 years ago for on an old desktop that I used as a HTPC, I could hardly get 50Mbps from my wireless AP which was like 5m away in the adjoining room with one timber framed drywall in between. Only used it for few months then upgraded to an AC 1200 PCIe card, which gave 250Mbps+ at the same location.

    So don’t expect blazing speeds with this unless you are right next to your router / AP. For better speeds get an adaptor with larger built in antennas or external antennas. IMO this won’t be much of an upgrade to anything that already has WiFi, but not too bad if you want a cheap way to add WiFi to an old computer for basic stuff.

    Also note this is a USB 2.0 adapter.
    Even if the wireless link were to reach advertised speeds (which it won't as per above comments), it would be bottlenecked by the bus.

    I had something similar and bought a different one with antennas and USB 3.

    I also had this. Wouldn't push more than about 30-40 mbs in the back of my desktop. Fine for some, but plugging in a proper adapter with external antenna pushed that up nearly 10 fold.

    I use this on our technician's desk for desktops and laptops that can't connect over their own WiFi or have no WiFi.

    Super reliable, and no drivers necessary. One of those devices that "just works", all the time.

    I'll stick to the subject of nano receivers. :)

    I'm using this aliexpress wifi/bluetooth receiver. It ain't fast (450mbps 5GHz / 150mbps 2.4GHz) but it does the job to connect to a router around 8 mtrs away.

        In my experiance if it shows up as storage first you need to install the driver.

        Annoying - that's why I use the Nano - no drivers :)
