  • I’m waiting for Gl.inet Flint 2 to come back in stock, any other models to look at?

  • +1

@nuker see if you can put DD-wrt on it. Should unlock everything. Think other one called tomato or something like that.
    Meaning your tp link.

Obviously not under warranty anymore but believe you can revert it if you got their firmware. Did it on my old dlink and Netgear router.

  • Not ATL, This was $300 at centercom a few days ago
    Not Merlin supported either

      No OzB post - didn't happen :)

      • Haha, yeah it was :) I was away and couldn't post, I was seriously considering purchasing this.
I got a Asus AX82U AX5400 instead of eBay cheap to get me by to Flint 3 comes out.

      I'm gutted this wasn't posted!

      • I didn't post because I saw people having problems with it and it didn't support Merlin.
But Here in this post they figured out how to get 6 GHz band working, incase anyone buys and has dramas with it. https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/s/DTKGDaMvDc

no merlin = no buy :(

      • +2

no woman = no cry :(~

      • Last I checked (years ago) Merlin was just a slightly more stable version of the stock firmware. Has that changed significantly?

        • +3

you can install 3rd party apps with merlin since AC68U era, there is even an app store

          • @bri11iant-y: Oh, very neat. Had not realised it had come along so far. (I run routing on a PC so haven't looked at stuff like Merlin for ages)

Given the small amounts of RAM on most routers, I do wonder whether that's much of a constraint these days.

  • With this price should we go for Wifi 7?

    • If you have a load of wifi 7 devices yes otherwise you may as well get this and upgrade when 7 is more common. Or buy the flint 2 from Amazon when they are around $200.

  • Just wait for Flint 3. Should be around this price

    • Worth going flint 3 instead of 2?

      • Not for a few months after release if the firmware is in the same state flint 2 was on release.

    • Why? Genuine question.

And do I need to be a power user or tolerant of bugs (long term, not counting just after release)?

If I use this as a clothes rack for socks and undies will it affect reception?

    • +1

      Only on Tuesday.

  • BE92U currently 399@amazon would be a better buy imo
    + wifi 7
    + 1x10G wan
    + 1x2.5G lan
    + more wireless bandwidth
    + smaller footprint, better design
    + Merlin
    all that for $30 more

    • German / EU model….

      • ahh you are correct, didn't see that

I know how ozb hates oversea models (brace for the negs)

        • US models are fine as they have the same high-power Wi-Fi output limits as OZ, but EU/UK/JP models are far more limited.

    • Lots of issues with it atm. As long as you don't mind being a beta tester for asus

      • Any specific ones?

Picking a new router is annoying.. Both Asus and tp link seem to have dropped the ball based on ozb comments.

Looking for wifi 6E and triband, working properly with quest/portal shouldn't be so hard

        • Check the snbforums, reports of drop outs and the like. There is a beta merlin firmware so hopefully not long before it's stable.

        • TP-Link never pickup a ball in the first place. They kick it and then move on to find the next ball to kick.

Asus on the other hand, support their devices with multiple firmware releases spanning a number of years.

  • Dang, bought the AX86u just last week.
