Very good deal I wish I talked to the retention team for longer now.

  • +1

Just received my bill, $816. Not bad, $916 for 256gb Pixel 8 Pro.

    • Cancelled on the day you ordered?

      • Keen to know the same as i was holding off until i had the phone before i cancel. HN cant even give me an ETA and they have no idea when they will get more stock and how much. Pretty poor management. Ive spoken to Optus and they just tell me the deal is with HN and there is no phone on the contract. Means as others have found out there is no harm in cancelling before receiving. I got quoted $793 as my payout.

The phone seems to be available everywhere but HN. Not sure i believe there are that many people clued into this deal to have cleaned them out.

        • I don't want to risk cancelling without a phone(although many have commented here it is safe to cancel) so I just picked up the 128GB and cancelled my plan( Total cost $862.50). I originally ordered the 256GB Bay but given there is no stock and HN can't even give me an ETA I just decided to compromise on the color and size and picked the 128GB black in stock. I haven't used the whole 128GB in my current phone so I am hoping 128GB is good enough for me and will use Googleone if i need more space.. Got the $99 refunded. Now will wait for the final invoice to come through.

          • +1

@Solosurf: Might think about downsizing my Porcelain as there's local stock, assuming I can grab one from a different store.
Still have over 20GB free on my 128GB P6P.

        • +3

I can tell you with 100% certainty that this deal got ozbargained. Stock is on big delays cause everyone wants 256 Bay/Porcelain or 512. 128gb is everywhere.

          • @[Deactivated]: Optus fault or HN fault? Seems a pretty silly deal so that someone can easily get a brand new phone for half price.

            • @poczynek77: HN told me their stock co es from google which is even stranger since how are they paying for and giving the phone away if they are making $0 on the phone. Confirmed by Optus as there is nothing about a phone on the contracts we sign up to.

              • +1

@worthy1: optus, harvey norman and google all help subsidise the cost

          • @[Deactivated]: What i would like to know is why HN takes preorders (a preorder is to guarantee a product on release) for a product they dont know how many they will be allocated or when they will get those allocations.

Say there is a big supply issue because a phone was so popular it got completely wiped out (even though i can go to my local JB or Officeworks and get one today). Could take 6+ months for more to be made, shipped out worldwide etc. Pretty crappy to take orders for a phone that no one has a clue about when it can be given. PS5 release is a great example. Imagine if stores were taking preorders for that with no idea. Yet they knew exactly how many they were being allocated and only took preorders for that amount. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

            • @worthy1: And there's people like me who walked in the door at 9am on release day and bought the phone on the plan without any pre order.

              • +1

@mandelbrot: Thats my point, HN does not do themselves any favours to be liked. I got a call release day to be told they are out of allocation. I then call back up pretending to be a customer and wouldnt you know it i can go in and buy the phone outright. There is also someone above that even when the deal got cut early went in after release and managed to sign up and walk out with a phone while the rest of us wait for an unknown amount of time.

I have preordered many things in my time to secure a product i know will be popular on release. I have never come across where somewhere takes an unlimited amount of orders with no idea of how many they can fulfill or when they can at all. For a store to go 'we dont know when we will get more' is piss poor.

                • @worthy1: They most likely said that because stock is fine for non 256gb models.

            • @worthy1: a definition of a preorder is an order placed for an item that hasn’t been released or isn’t in stock. A preorder in no way guarantees stock for day 1. iPhone 15 Pro Max for example, Apple and other retailers always have these up for preorders but anyone who preordered after the first couple days still hasn’t gotten their phone yet.

Latest ETA that we have heard was early nov.
and of course OW and JB have stock cause they didn’t have this deal.

              • @[Deactivated]: Yeah, preorders would just put you ahead of the walk-ins.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Thats one definition. Regardless, the idea is to know how much stock you will have to begin with and in the future. HN had no idea how much they will have on any variant both on release and in the future but just pencil in as many preorders as you can.

So i guarentee Nov allocation will go quick, then what wait until december, stock exhausted again, january? Feb? No one in HN can tell you because your stock management is crapolla. But just keep taking those orders my guy. Maybe I can preorder the pixel 9 now….

                • -1

@worthy1: bro the deal got ozbargained and ur taking it out on us? hahahahaha
to assume that stock would be available on day 1 regardless when you preordered it is hilarious. Same thing happened with iPhone launch. you think apple would pull iphone preorders cause stock is nowhere?Stock for google has always been fine till this deal, im sure after nov that stock will be everywhere cause the deal was pulled.
you still get the phone and you dont have to stay on the plan. unless a salesperson SPECIFICALLY said that you will get day 1, then its your fault for assuming stock was everywhere. if u want the phone so desperately, downgrade to 128gb or switch to obsidian.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Getting ozbargained is your excuse. Again you have no idea how many phones you were going to start with but kept taking the orders. So tell me when i will get my phone, or others? You cant and you have no idea how many orders you yook, how many phones you will receive and when. Thats the issue. Not that the deal got 'ozbargained' which funnily enough you dont even know that because HN has 0 data….

                    • @worthy1: it got pulled due to oversell and stock exhaustion, quoting an email we got sent.

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: "Stock for google has always been fine till this deal,"

                    Exactly this !

You (HN not you personally) should have backed up a little and said: "This deal is getting very popular, and we have no idea how many unit we'll get and at what pace, so there is a possibility that you won't get your phone at the estimated date, and also that some rep might give your phone to another customer because a sticky note with a name on it might not be sufficient"

But I understand no salesrep from HN would have make this "thought" because hey gotta stack up those referal fees

                    • @borgainerz: deal got pulled cause of oversell and exhaustion, cause the deal was too popular and further allowance of the deal was going to cause no stock for months.

                      • @[Deactivated]: My store also mentioned this as the reason.
Do you know definitively how long you need to stay on the Optus plan for the rep to get their commission?

                        • +1

@gamerkonks: pretty sure 3 months is accurate.

              • @[Deactivated]: thanks for giving some updates to us on here. do u know if that ETA is for all the models or just like 128gb. im waiting for my 256gb porcelain, called my store yesterday and was told 2-3 weeks (from release date). dont know how much i can trust that.

                • @RedOrangutan: all 128gb p8p’s are in stock in a handful of locations, ETA wouldnt be too lonk on that but 256gb porcelain would be probably 2-3 wks from now yeah

          • @[Deactivated]: How is stock for P8P 256GB Black?

            • @huntabargain: its here and there, alot of regional stores have stock

      • +1

I was actually wanting to cancel it on the first day but Optus was wasting my time and told me go back to the shop to cancel it. Then, I just waited until I picked it up on a released date, and churn out. The first monthly charge was pro-rata'ed.

    • Their billing system is so random I got 841.8

I've already noticed people trying to palm these phones off for over $1500 on marketplace and Gumtree!

Google Pixel ain't no iPhone, pretty sure they're going to be stuck with a phone for a while 🤣🤣🤣

I still don't get why it's so popular, minor upgrades and Telstra was palming off the pro 7 256gb for $570 new recently

I was gonna upgrade, but can't even get an offer above $600-700, they drop so quickly in value.

    • +1

Do you have a link to the Telstra Pixel 7 Pro deal?

      • Nope, someone was selling one for $620 and showed me the paperwork

    • Yeah that is a good price for a pixel 7 pro.

    • So you got P7P for $570 and want to sell it for $700?

      • I didn't buy mine from Telstra.

I got mine from HV last year.

    • They's so popular because Google just started to master the communication and free press from influencers / media. The more people talk about it, the more people see it and jump in.

I agree, not worth the price increase (even if I bought it day 1)

I was actually able to waive my $69 bill for the first month quite easily - much to my surprise, as I read on here people saying there was no way around it once it was issued. This is the timeline of what I did:

    7/10:
Went into HN and signed up for the plan, paid $100 to upgrade to 256gb. Got a text pretty much immediately while standing there that the mobile service was activated. Didn't want to cancel plan before getting the phone, so I went home and didn't touch the sim at all while waiting.

    8/10:
Received the $69 bill for the first month in my emails, due 23/10.

    12/10:
Release day: Because I hadn't touched my new SIM yet, I called HN to ask whether my phone was ready for pickup or not. They let me know it was so I went and picked it up.

    13/10:
Messaged Optus to cancel my plan. Plan was cancelled relatively easily and they said let me know there was an early termination fee of $793.50. When I asked about also removing the first monthly bill, they said I had to wait until the final bill to request any bill adjustments (final bill with cancellation fees still has not arrived as of today).

19/10: Was tired of waiting for the final bill so I messaged Optus again - "Issue with my phone bill" -> "Unexpected charge on my bill". Told them I cancelled my phone plan without using it (no text, no call, no data), but still have an outstanding first monthly fee of $69. Said this wasn't fair and I shouldn't have to pay that bill. They asked me why I cancelled and I just said there were changes in my personal circumstances so I can't afford the plan now. They then let me know that they would waive that $69 on my account for me. During this interaction they also weaved in questions about my household's mobile and internet services but I just ignored those questions. At the end of the interaction they confirmed that they waived the $69 charge on my cancelled plan and it would be reflected on my account within 24 hours. Also, I didn't mention anything about the Pixel phone.

Maybe it just depends on the Optus staff you get, but looks like it is definitely possible to get that first $69 monthly bill waived for those who didn't cancel their plan immediately. Also not sure if this means my cancellation fee will go back up to $828 or not, but will find out once that bill arrives…

    • +2

thank you for your service, just did this and they reduced mine by 40 (wasnt able to waive it off completely but hey 40 bucks is 40 bucks) , so 29 instead of 69. :) a bit lower than 828

  • +1

So let’s hear when people think they will get their phones. I’ve called up Harvey’s 4 times and each time they have given me a different answer which makes me think they don’t know themselves what’s happening.

I honestly reckon it will be more than a month before I see my phone despite them saying I would definitely get it at release day.

    • Have a feeling HN actually not getting any stock if at all especially 256gb variants

The wait will be long maybe over 6 weeks. If that's the case I definately will complain to Optus not paying the bill because I haven't used the service at all because I got no phone to use with.

      See what they say.

I only have til 13th Nov. I extended my bill due date.

What if they never deliver the phone and continue to charge you the bill? You are forced to terminate or port out the contract pay for something that has not been delivered…

      Come to think of it…
It might be a strategy they deployed to not lose as much money by not delivering the phone heh

Let's say they don't deliver for 8 weeks and for those who did not cancel contract, HN will get the commission… After two bill cycles. After that they will deliver your phone so they will still get the commission even if you cancel after 8 weeks

      Touche

      • I think you're reading too much into it.

I don't think the expected the volume of orders and are waiting for more stock.

That being said, I would not be paying the Optus Bill with no phone. Despite the underlying mechanics, the deal combined the phone and service.. if there's no phone, then I would be paying for the service.

        • Agree with you. I'm just thinking of this scenario….if it happens I got no phone it makes no sense to pay for a service I haven't used at all.
I don't have the phone to use the service therefore I shouldn't be paying that bill

    • depends when you preordered, latest we’ve heard is early nov

    • +1

Same here, signed up on the 7th, 256GB porc…got told I missed out on the first few but the rep said no issue, they'd easily get more stock of that in a few days. Of course still waiting til now with no specific ETA…so much for preordering.

      • I called today Harvey Norman North Ryde NSW. There's no ETA at all. There's no notice when they will have stock at all. He said zero notice or any ETA, they might get an ETA in 2 weeks, but cannot promise anything.

We should not pay the bill if there's no phone to use

        • I paid my bill after having suspended my account. Didn't want any hassle of having to argue late fees or worry about credit ratings or bad records etc. Just played it safe.

Waiting for 128Gb Obsidian, ordered 8 days ago in Sydney CBD

  • My experience with HN Bondi

Pre ordered on 10th/10. Sales person said they've got none left and stock won't be in for another 2-3 weeks (256 Bay P8P).

I asked for a new number. He asked for my best contact number when phone is ready for pick up, I gave him my current number.

A few pages back, I read that someone ordered on the 10th from HN Bondi also and picked up two days later on the 12th. I decided to try my luck so I rang them up. They asked if I received my confirmation to pick up. I said no. The lady on the phone checked for me anyway and sure enough it was available. My guess is they were trying to contact the new number but that sim isn't in my phone.

    • I was told they will ring the number which is the one you supplied when you signed the contract under contact details, literally the one Optus will advise you on upon signing up….when the phone is ready to pick up from HN

So I don't think they ring you on the Optus number….

      • I was told the same thing. So I'm not sure why they didn't call me when the phone was ready. Good thing I chased them up or I would've been waiting for who knows how long.

  • Preordered 256GB Bay at Preston on the 9th, keep calling but no information beyond "1 to 2 weeks". Apparently I'm the "first in the queue". This is why nobody shops at HN any more…

Annoyingly I ported my number when I signed up cause I wanted to give Optus a fair go before cancelling so technically I am using the service already, but I'll still put a complaint in and see what I can get before I port out. Total shambles…

    • Try your luck getting the half price for two years deal on previous page.

  • Anyone still waiting on a 128Gb in black?

For me, 8 days since order and online is showing stock of the phone at the relevant store.

Yep ordered same last Thursday. Website shows no stock but other store down the road has it

After being told my Baby 256gb would be available early this week I called again and now they have no idea when stock is coming!. This is Melb CBD

    • this is the same for everyone.

There's no stock anywhere for any 256GB

  • For those that are still waiting for their handset and have the 1st bill due, just get in contact with an Optus agent via chat and explain that you're unfairly being charged for a service that you can't use and they should be able to credit you the entire amount.

I did this yesterday as my bill was due early next week. Only mentioned I signed up with one of their retail partner (did not named HN) for a Pixel 8 Pro 256G in Porcelain.

For reference, I signed up on 10/10 @ HN QV in Melbourne CBD….

    • I tried that via Chat agent not working. I said to them "unfairly being charged for a service cannot use"

The reply was "may I ask if it's your choice that you did not used your service for this month while waiting for your new phone?"

I said no, it is unexpected to have no phone therefore I cannot use the service. its now no ETA for arrival, by 13th Nov if I still don't have the phone can you do something?

No reply what so ever. Ended the chat

not sure if it hasnt updated yet or so, but mine is still the same. Been 1.5 week

      • If you're using Finder to check, they only check once every 31 days. I dunno if the other ways to check is the same, but yeah, if your monthly check hasn't happened yet, it won't update 'til then. Mine is due this upcoming week so I'm curious. I've never had a phone plan affect my credit before, ever.

I'm happy with my 128 Bay. Having the original Pixel doing all the free, unlimited backup, so 128 is fine for me :-)

  • +5

FYI, I called up my local HN last weekend when the deal had been cancelled early. Just said I wanted someone to contact me and let me know why they ended early, they called yesterday and said they are willing to honour the original deal - so I went in and signed up tonight!

    • Which phone did you order and is it in stock?

      • Pixel 8 Pro 128gb - and no it wasn't unfortunately. But apparently they were in stock at every other store in Vic.

  • Just did the cancel, they offered me 50% discount for 24 months which is pretty good deal I thought. Shame I didn't need the service

    • +1

Hmm, I couldn't get anywhere near that. I didn't want to cancel, just wanted a better deal, but only got $10/month off for 6 months,

Why would you even bother cancelling? Wouldn't it be the same price to keep the service?

      • yep sounds great if its needed

*I can see here that you are currently on $69 Gift Card Voice Plan(Apr 2023) (AC) in 24 months. If we cancel the service, you will be paying for the Early Termination Fee cost $793.50.

Maybe you can consider to keep your service and provide you 50% discount for 24 months. It will be $34.50. How does that sound?*

Japril is the dude I got

        • +4

But you're paying the same amount and not getting a service if you cancel and you're paying up front. It seems pointless

Couldn't you have just kept the service, not use it and you're spreading it out over 2 years?

          • @chromium: Good point. I might try that and use it in my Optus supplied Galaxy tab for was a prev OZb deal.

          • @chromium: yep, didn't think of it like that. He was taking an age to process my cancel so I reneged and took up the offer

            • @ellave: Nice! So they're literally just keeping on you the same plan and halving the cost? Wish I could get that!

              • +1

                @chromium: $828 for a $1699 phone with 24 months of 100GB each month? Wow.

        • +1

          Thanks @ellave

I tried my luck today and got the same offer . 50% off for 12 months. I had to wait for an hour ,as their reposnse is very slow , one message in every 5 min or so . .but its worth the time :). Got a text confirmation from optus confirming the discout offer for 12 months with an order number. I currently pays $25 for optus sports , from next month its going to be $42 , (35 + 7 for optus sports) .

    • After I did accept the offer i received an text and email sayings its been applied for 12 months, I contacted them again and the agent said the following. So I am thinking the first guy screwed up by offering my 24 months.

'As I have checked. We don't have access to add 50% discount for 24 months.

You can use it for 12 months and contact us we will definitely help you with extending it to other 12 months.

I will leave a clear notes on our conversation so that next expert will have clear understanding and apply discount for next 12 months.

      Sorry for the Inconvenience'

    • which department did you speak to? im getting no where near this deal.

      • Retention or client loyalty department

      • +3

@pitpicker Tell them you looking to reduce your monthly bill due to financial issues and want to cancel your postpaid plan.. They stright away offered me 50% off for 12 months.

        • I got this too (25 October) after I went onto chat. Same reasoning as you.

I had managed a reduction previously but not this low. Thanks to everyone for sharing. Very happy with $34.50 for 12 months!

    • +1

I got offered the same - 50% discount for 24 months bringing monthly cost to $34.50, almost like they had it copy-pasted ready to go.

I accepted the offer and got an email saying it was only for 12 months rather than 24. When I questioned, the rep said they will reapply the discount after 12 months (sounds like it might be a system limitation?)

I asked for a chat transcript just in case and they said they'd send one out within a few business days. I took a screenshot just in case.

Figured I might as well keep the plan for the same price as the termination fee and cop an extra 100 GB if I ever need it - I can then cancel at the end of the discount with no fees to pay.

      • Nice, so is this 12 * $34.50 after which no fee cancellation? Isn't that even better at $414 all up?

Or is it then $69 for a further 12 months after, and you are at Optus mercy whether they 69 you or not.

        • +1

In theory, it's $34.50 for 24 months - they just do the discount in 12 month increments becuase of what I assume is a system limitation, as there was someone else saying they could only do 12 months worth of discount at a time.

In other words the cancellation fee ($34.50 * 24, depending on how you tackle the first bill) for me is now the same as keeping the plan.

          • @tmr3: Yep hopefully they don't renege after 12m. Keep that screenshot safe!
I guess if they don't honour after 12m you would just cancel at half monthly cost and still end up same so all good. :)

            • @scar4ace: Yep, that's exactly it - if they want to keep me around as a customer they'll honour the deal.

If not - there's literally no difference in cost to cancel!

      • I've tried a couple of times and have had no luck with any discounts. They've just given me the cancellation cost and ask if i want to proceed

        • Bugger, guess it depends a lot on the rep.

For what it's worth, I opened the conversation with something to the effect of "due to a change in personal circumstances I've decided to cancel service <number>. I've read the critical information summary and understand the cancellation fee."

Anyone in WA collected their 256gb bay? The manager at HN O'Connor said no ETA from supplier.

    • +1

I signed up 13/10 for 256gb bay too. When I asked in person last Thursday (19/10) the manager of HN Joondalup said should be about a week from then, but I think that was just a generic answer and they said that they'd contact me when it's ready. A lot of previous comments suggest eastern states' ETA is early November though.

I've been enjoying my 256gb Bay since launch day. Didn't bother pre-ordering and walked into the Ozzie Park store a 9am and got one. :P

      • That's great, any issues so far?
