    • Which store did you go to btw…?

        • +1

i called them and that werid sounding slow guy told me they dont have stock and only after i get a text message should I come. mf leech

          • +2

@chulbul: Yeah it seemed like he was saving them for his friends to do it, and was annoyed after i went to leave. Looks like he chose his commission over his friends lol

            • +1

@b0cky54: That's hilarious, what did he expect lol told you no stock and then when you wanted to leave suddenly realised, "Oh wait I'm on commission"

              ¯_(ツ)_/¯

        • +1

I got mine there today, but ordered on Friday and had no intention of cancelling because the Optus plan is actually pretty good :) I got a $10 discount per month for the first 6 months as well.

          • @chromium: Tomorrow is a bad day for that idiot. fun times ahead.

        • That's where I pre-ordered and havent got my 128gb yet!! Dodgy

        • What colour?

    • Thanks for the detailed explanation, what's the payment options for cancellation of the plan?

      • They did not give me options, they are just going to send me a bill in a few weeks I assume.

        • Oh I see, I thought you could pay that off via the my optus app or something.

    • When they tried to make you pay for the first month - what was your response? (could you give a little bit more detail, I think those who waited are going to get snagged :( )

      • I said this should be waived as I have no activated the sims, made any calls or sms. So I have no used the service. Only signed up an hour before it. They checked with their supervisor and agreed to add the credit. Pretty hassle free tbh

        • Thanks mate, I only had to pay the $828 in the end :)

    • +1

This is one of the many reasons why most sane people don't buy from HN….they are just so untrustworthy. When I pre-ordered everything was going fine but as soon as I didn't want the 'product-care' you could tell he just switched off and couldn't give a f**K. No "thanks for coming in" or "thanks for buying from us". Just a simple "we will text when it's ready". I called yesterday to try and get an indication of timing and the guy just said "it takes time. We will text when it's ready". Shocking…….

      • Yeah they are a terrible company

  • So guys I got the phone and didn't do the initial data transfer from my old phone. I cant find the normal oz bargain app in the play stores its either ozbargain plus or ozzy bargain app. Both which look like crap to me, anyone know how to get the old app again?

    • I think Android version from official OzB are no longer supported, may have to get third party like Aussie Deals.

      • Thanks for the effort but it states this app isnt available for the device because it was made for an older version of android……wtf is this seriously (currently writing this on my old app/phone via wifi). And I can't go back to set up any more to transfer from old phone either. Have to factory reset but then I lose both my esims.

        • Pixel 7 Pro user here, having zero issues downloading it…

          • @dongltron: I have just updated my 8 pro to the latest update, maybe thats why? Or just P 7 pro is better

            • @Voucherd: No idea. I'm on A13 still but I can't imagine that makes a massive difference.

              • @dongltron: I just factory reset, transfered apps from old phone, now I have ozbargain app but it freezes on load, anyone else have the same issue?

                • +1

@Voucherd: Honestly didn't know there was an OzB app until now but mine's working fine. Try clearing app data?

                  • @dongltron: I just use a shortcut on my home screen to the web page. No app required.

      • Can confirm this doesn't work on an updated P7 Pro.

"This app isn't available for your device because it was made for an older version of Android."

It may have worked prior but maybe not Android 14 ready? Who knows.

    • I've had my P30 Pro for 4+ years until it finally died (RIP best phone ever).

Wouldn't have a clue how data and app transfers work these days.

What I want to do is a clean install so it's from scratch, and only transfer over data that I want to transfer from certain apps.

      What's the best way?
I've got GoogleOne – 2TB with auto backup and restore activated on the P30 Pro. But not sure if I should deactivate/delete it or change a setting so it doesn't all transfer across automatically.

      Any tips?

  • There's a couple on eBay too, like this one with HN price tag still intact, lol https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/355100401011

    • That's ridiculous.

I feel it's not fair for people who genuinely want the phone for themselves. I understand many would not agree with me

      • No different to scalpers really.

        • Scum of the earth types!

      • Hate HN, not the scalpers (and before you ask, I only bought 1, I got better things to do than race to the bottom on Gumtree)

HN really should have set a more reasonable limit especially when it was pretty obvious there was going to be stock shortages. A limit of 2 is reasonable.

    • Damn, declined my offer of $929.

      • Get a mule account and bid the highest and ignore paying.

        • It's not worth the effort. Let him dream about easy money ;)

          • @localhost: Unfortunately, they will probably manage to sell the phones for more than that considering that most people will just search eBay and compare the price to the retail price.

I'm overseas, missed the deal, and will have to see what's available when I return. Will likely just wait a couple months to get mine.

  • FYI, Tried my luck at Blacktown and was told it's only valid for porting in a number and I would need sign a waiver saying that they would take legal action if I cancelled before 6 months. Apparently there's some loophole where people signup to get the phone and then cancel straight away. I said oh, wow, and left. Don't know how enforceable their supposed waiver is, but there are much nicer staff on other stores.

    • +9

can confirm my local HN had armed guards around the phone section warning people about cancelling early

      • Reminds me of the lockdown debacles of 2021 (?) with armed forces guarding areas in the west of Sydney

    • +5

These stores should be reported to the ACCC. The T&Cs state clearly new service, not port in.

      • +3

HN are kings of misleading and trying their best to bend you over. ACCC hasn't done anything about them yet. I refuse to step foot in there unless it's something really solid in my favour, like this.

    • +5

WTF ?? If they worried people cancelling the contract prematurely, they should not run that promotion.

      • +4

When I went to sign up the other day the sales reps asked where I heard about the deal, I pointed to the website they had open at their computer and said "right there".

        It was this thread.

    • +1

That's absolutely illegal. Try another store for sure.

    • How do they know you cancel? It'll between you and Optus after you walkout the store.

  • LOL is it me or has HN taken the advertising for this deal down on their website?

I'm sure there used to be a little tile with the deal showing when you went to the page with the phone.

Note: it is still there if you go digging for it but just not actively being advertised online anymore.

  • Finally gave in and took up this offer today. HN sales guy didn't say anything although I kind of noticed he was a bit crestfallen when I opened up my phone to point to their page online and said I wanted the $69 p/m Optus deal for Pixel 8 Pro. OzBargain wasn't mentioned by either of us.

No stock although apparently I just missed out on being able to walk out the store with it today (HN Adelaide CBD store). I wanted 256GB Obsidian. I think they had a blue one (Bay) in stock but only 128GB. Paid my $100 upfront for the 256GB version. Saw him type something (quickly) about a discount in from the list price, as per what others have said, and have no idea what that was in regards to. I have a receipt showing I bought a 256GB Pixel 8 Pro for $100, with 'incomplete order' on the receipt. No fixed date was given for availability but the impression was that it was likely to be days rather than weeks.

Optus signup was done entirely online while there but took about 25-mins all up. I ported in as I intend to stay on the Optus plan for a few months to see if 100GB a month is useful for me or not. My old SIM was dead before I left the store. Optus account online clearly shows only the $828 fee if I want to terminate that contract.

Tried to upsell me on the ability to upgrade cheaply in a year, which wasn't a bad option, but wary of pre-paying for things which probably depend on some subjective assessment of old phone condition that will be a headache to meet. No doubt that was a commission booster because he was pretty insistent.

Can't say I think any phone is worth ~$1,800 to me but for half that I say yes.

    • Does the contract termination fee lower if you cancel after a few months?

      • +2

cancellation fee is half remaining amount,
        for example (20 x $69) / 2 = $690

    • how much?

  • Just wondering does anyone know how to turn on the video boost function.

    https://store.google.com/intl/en/ideas/articles/night-sight-….

I don't have anything that says video boost in my camera options.

    • +1

      It will be released later.

    • +1

Coming in December I heard in one review.

  • Can you get a TRS refund on the phone purchased via HN deal after cancellation with Optus ?

    • Isn't it showing phone cost is $0 on invoice?

  • What a nightmare this has been. Made the trek to Harvey to get this deal. Get told I can't because my number/information is already linked to an account… (ex wife & an account from 5 years ago where someone used my ID despite me never losing it to score some free phones and rack up 3k in phone bills… Had this sorted and cleared.. or so I thought)

Get told to go to the Optus store. Walk in and get a new account sorted. The guy is super interested in the Harvey deal but I play dumb. Go back to Harvey with a new account and go through the whole process and then get told I cannot join Optus because I have outstanding bills…

Go back to the store and get told to contact support. 2 hours later on webchat I am told the only way I can ever join Optus again is to pay the outstanding $3k in bills on the fraudulent account………….

Check FB marketplace to see if any are cheap but all 1400… fml

    /end rant.

    • Which store was that?

    • Mine was a nightmare too. 3 visits to Optus store and 4 to HN. Seems the Wiley Park HN guys spelled my name incorrectly so I failed the credit check. Multiple visits to find out what was going on.
The whole ordeal took me 2.5 hours…

      • Still trying to figure out what's causing my credit check fail. The last response I got from Optus messaging told me my ID couldn't get matched or verified.

  • +1

I called Optus yesterday and put my plan on hold. It costs $5.50/month. Will port out when I pickup the phone.

    • How does the $5.50 per month acct hold work out?

  • And so is this deal still on?

  • Hi, Just checking, I am planning to buy a home in next few months. Will my credit rating get affected by this cancellation of contract?

    • -1

AFAIK, the credit rating will be checked for the home loan application.
Several hundreds of dollars vs not getting loan approval, you have to weigh that by your self.

      • +5

Seems a bit like fearmongering. Why would a new credit enquiry get your home loan declined? So with that logic I shouldn't sign up for a new internet plan either because I might get my home loan declined?

    • -2

In that case, I will avoid cancelling the contract.

      • +3

FYI, your credit rating will be hit at the START of your application (an inquiry is added, probably a hard one). Once you are approved, it doesn't matter what outcome (cancel or keep) you choose.

Frankly, while most mortgage lenders do use credit scores/reports, it only forms a part of their assessment and doesn't really hold as much weight compared to how it's being used in the US. Personal loans/credits are another story, and some do filter via score.

    • Thanks for the replies. I would avoid the deal entirely in that case.

    • +2

Nothing happens to your credit score or credit report if / when you cancel.
There is a hard credit enquiry added to your report when you sign up.

    • -5

For similar reason I avoided this deal. Instead bought it last night from Google Store.

      Pixel 8 Pro
      Subtotal:A$1,699.00
      Promotional Discount: -A$169.90 (unidays code)
      Delivery:A$0.00
      Total:A$1,529.10
      [+ 10% Google One Shop credit A$152.91 & +Store Credit $400.00

      Pixel 8
      Subtotal:A$1,199
      Promotional Discount: -A$119.90 (unidays code)
      Delivery:A$0.00
      Total:A$1,079.10
      [+ 10% Google One Shop credit A$107.91 & +Store Credit $250.00 ]

Total Google Store Credit $910.82 (with which I plan to buy Pixel Tablet and the accessories when it goes down in price say around Xmas most likely).

    • +8

Cancelling a contract won't affect your credit. There's a credit check to get approved which will likely drop your credit score but this shouldn't affect your ability to get a loan. Only if your credit score was already low then potentially.

The main thing lenders will care about is any defaults. If any loans, credit cards, bills are all paid and up to date you shouldn't have a problem.

I'm a mortgage broker, happy to chat further if you'd like to DM me and I can answer any questions you may have so you don't miss this deal.

      • How much approx does this take your score down and for how long? My score is around 1000 and was hoping to keep it above that.
Already bought and cancelled the plan.

        • Probably a similar effect as it would be to churn a credit card, or if it doesn't make a full credit application then even less. Haven't read any comments here as to whether it is actually a new credit inquiry or just a file access.

        • It seems to vary, I saw one person posted theirs went down by around 70 points, which seems a lot.

Equifax doesn't disclose how they calculate the score. The good thing is if you cancel the plan it won't be treated as a commitment when you apply for a loan.

Keep proof of cancellation in case the lender will require it, but phone plans don't get treated the same as credit cards. Essentially there's no credit limit attached to it.

Also once closed it SHOULD be removed from your active accounts. The credit enquiry will be shown however.

      • Now, that's a good salesperson, right there :)

  • Picked up my P8P 256Gb Obsidian last night at HN Castle Hill, there were 4 people waiting to sign up for the deal. They even ask me how the process works.

Cancelled Optus service last night using the Optus App messaging. Had to do it at 10pm as last night as their system was down. They asked me why I cancelled their plan, I just told them that I don't need it. Then he proceeded to cancel the plan. I have to pay $793 termination fee, instead of $828. I assume that when the final bill comes in it would be $793 + $69 = $862. So now I will wait for the bill.

    • Yeah you have to cancel within an hour or so or you'll be paying extra unfortunately.

  • +2

Different offer for me from loyality team.

Everything went as expected and picked up the phone yesterday.

Then while trying to cancel the plan, they offered me $100 off from the cancellation fee, if I agree to change over to $49 months to month plan. Even that with $20 off for 12 months.

    So it's
    - $693.50 early termination fee
    - No additional charges
    - $49 plan with $20 discount for 12 months ($29).
    - No lock in contact, It's a month to month plan

    • This looks tempting :)

    • That's a decent deal!

    • This is a good deal, did you port in your old number when you signed up? I went with new number so wondering if it will work if I cancel the plan and sign up to a new $49 plan porting my old number. Still waiting for the phone (256GB Bay) :( was told there is a 1-2 week wait

      • No, A new number.
Now trying to work out at which point I should cancel. Max I pay should be $693.50 + $29 in any case

        • If you don't need the plan, then cancel now! haha

        • Haha well played. They gave me a rather poor offer in comparison.
          Was this via chat?

          • +1

            @scar4ace: Yep. All via chat

            • @ibex: Pretty cool. I tried to get the same playing coy and I got the offer ffor $29 pm for 12 months but no luck on discounting the early termination fee even a little bit! ("The system wouldn't allow it" apprently haha) My retention guy and I had a long and intermittent chat and had a pretty good interaction overall. You got pretty lucky :)

    • Just checking… The $49 plan is 60gb of data?

      • Shows as 30GB in the app

  • +4

Looks like offer has been withdrawn? Gone from the T&C page.

    • Oh interesting. Wonder if some HN stores will still have it available in their system

    • Is party over now ?

    • People below are still doing it, so 🤷

      • Not really, last comment said they have changed the payout overnight to double

        • +1

Well yeah the one that wasn't there when I commented for sure haha

I'll call up my local HN, see if I can get a straight answer from them.
