Last time someone said this to me early 2022 due to some manufacturing crunch and I rushed and bought a 980 Pro. The spike never eventuated and nothing happened.

    • This is true, I have been telling people that, if you see a good deal on SSD and Dram just grab it.

      • Also sensationalist headlines trying to drum up interest. At least this story is looking at futures

  • What does SN850X do better than the SN770 doesn't?

Might pull the trigger on this… looks good.

    • Higher numbers in synthetic benchmarks. Will be mostly unnoticeable in real world usage.

    • SN850X has DRAM better as a main boot drive

    • +1

If you have heavy server usage, then SN850X is better (more consistent). SN770 2TB technically is a bit slower.

Also, officially, WD does not indicate SN770 is PS5 compatible. PS5's minimum sequential recommended read speed is 5500MB/s. SN770 will work because PS5 doesn't enforce the speed, it only checks the drive supports PCIe gen 4 x4.

      • Watched a digital foundry video on a significantly slower model that goes at 3200MB/s and in Ratchet and Clank the different between that and a to-spec drive was pretty minor. Looks like this should be fine given it’s much closer to the target 5500MB/s at about 50000MB/s.

Was good to know so thanks for pointing that out. Decided to grab and a cheap heatsink this as I think it’ll be fine.

Could not find this model on the Linus tier list. How does this compare with other deals recently? (e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/800343) Mainly looking for PS5.

    • +1

it would be equal to SN750 SE* (WD Proprietary) as dramless
it has the same board layout as the WD SN570, and presumably the same controller.

so it would be around Tier D (Mid-end)

  • I know this gets asked on every other SSD deal but any recommendations for a PS5 compatible heatsink?

Looking to increase storage before Spider-Man 2 releases later this month

  • excellent price, i was looking at 2x2tb for nvme storage

Bought with 3-in-1 Caulk Tool for $138.20

    • $137.22 for me.

      • They changed the price, now it is $184.32.

  • +1

Price seems to have dropped a few dollars since posting

    • was a couple dollars higher than OP price for me less than half hour ago. must be moving around a bit

Anyone know if a good offer exists for 4TB? After my 1TB ran out of space like it's nothing thanks to 100GB+ game installations and 50GB+ frequent updates, decided not to bother with 2TB as it'll be met with same fate in no time

    • Lexar NM790 4TB is ~$260 and is a great option for a secondary drive

      • It's a great option for a primary drive too

    headsink? good for ps5?

    • I just bought a cheap one from aliexpress.

  • Temp ps5 compatible - meaning no additional heatsink purchase required?

    • It’s always a good idea to get one anyways imo. Even something is better than nothing

  • whats the benefits of upgrading this in the PS5?

    • More storage space for games.

Its main competition in this price bracket is Lexar NM790 2TB. That one has higher sequential read/write, but inferior latency. Also, Amazon's after sale service is better. However, technically, SN770 is below the recommended specs (5500MB/s read).

  • actually just cancelled my order and re-ordered 1 of these and 1 SN850x for $311 delivered for both which seems like a good deal for a decent drive plus a storage drive. price came down again (now $118 for the 770 if bought in a pair)

Showing over $150 for one or 2x for $295

  • Price has gone up and it's being sold by Amazon UK now?

    • yep no longer the same price.

  • +1

    this is no longer available

  • This or Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB or hynix p31 2TB for ThinkPad T14s Gen 2 AMD Laptop (gen3 slot)? I have been waiting for the 970 to come on sale but this makes me think twice. To many choices.

    • +2

This isn't available anymore, so now you only have to think once!

  • no brainier at this price.
bought mine almost 2 years ago with 230$

  • no dram lol.
