  • Can the logs be transferred to a PC? or are they only viewable on it 1.8" screen?

    • +2

Looks like its only viewable on the screen. Generally it'll give an error code and then you can Google it to find out more information. Being a basic model, there wouldn't be many logs available anyway.

It would also depend on your car as to what logs would be available if you got an OBDII tool that could read them.

For just over $20, its not bad. You can pay more for a WiFi/Bluetooth Model plus the cost of an App.

    • +3

Just get this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/354693266085 and view results on your phone. I've got it and it works great

      • You need to pay for an app?

        • +2

No I use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ovz.carsca… but there are many others

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: There are in app purchases to unlock full features. For example reading a sensor voltage.

            • +2

@chyawala: Didn't see where someone asked about in-app purchases.

Free app reads codes, erases codes has a few other diagnostic functions. Good enough for most and especially for a $7 device

              • @[Deactivated]: even so just pay for the extra app features?
you already saved a lot of the device!

      • Im happy to spend a bit more (or a lot more) can i get one that clears codes, changes settings? whatever else cool things.
Which model would you reccomend for that

  • +3

Thanks for sharing op! Been awhile since one of these have been on sale

  • Can I use for motorcycle?

    • +2

Does it have an OBD2 port?

      • +1

That's the big round port at the back, right?

If your bike doesn't have OBD2, it may be possible to use an adapter. Just watch out for the junk ones that are wired incorrectly.

  • Can this clear codes or just read them?

    • +2

Description on Amazon mentions it can erase codes.

      • +1

Can I restore the codes that has been erased?

        • +1

Can I erase the previosuly restored codes that have been erased?

          • @iShibby: Some vehicles will allow it. Modern cars often keep a log which can be retrieved and reviewed by the manufacturer.

  • It should be noted that there are OBDs that work best with certain brands.

Eg. OBDEleven seems like the best option for Vw cars. But damn it’s expensive.

If anyone has a suggestion for the best everyday error code detection and removal for VW Golf, it’s be much appreciated. If it’s this based on experience, I’ll take it

For reference: my Golf Mk6 continues to complain about my rear tail lights when I replaced even though they work fine. Absolutely maddening

    • It should be noted that there are OBDs that work best with certain brands.

Agreed. Forscan is another one that is specific to Ford vehicles and Lincoln + Mercury.

    • +1 for VW Golf. I need one too!

  • i had the Qanda obd reader - it was shtt it also bricked one of my cars if it stays connected. Mechanic had to go through and eventually figured out that was causing the problems
