One of my highlights for the Geelong show is seeing the sheriff’s clamp cars with unpaid fines 😎

    • That's the only reason I go too.

  • I’m an ex Geelong girl and the main thing I remember from the Geelong show was it always seemed to be raining. The duckboards looked like the battle of the Somme.

how is geelong now? many factories shutdown in the past and still going till now

is the economy good? people happy living there? low criminals especially in the north areas..?

Geelongs booming. Fastest growing city in Aus.

They’ve certainly done a lot with the foreshore since I was a kid. Eastern beach looks terrific.

        • glad to know!

          • @CyberMurning: I used to go there as a kid and everything was broken and there was broken glass in the kiddies fountain. If I had kids I think it would be a great place to take them now. The downside is they’ve taken out a number of the more interesting rides, but probably because people expect their kids to come home with them nowadays rather than visit them in hospital.

            • @try2bhelpful: thank you, but my question was more of general geelong (not just the showground event), economics and future and safety issues as i heard of factory closures, and the north areas werent safe in the past

              • @CyberMurning: Blue collar disappeared years ago. However Geelong has been resilient due to the influx of government services like NDIS, Worksafe, TAC etc.

              • @CyberMurning: When I was a kid Norlane was considered a no go zone. I haven’t lived there for many years but I suspect it will have issues like any other place.

                • @try2bhelpful: Norlane is still Norlane

                  • @freesteakknives: Just as a matter of interest we went through Geelong the other day. I noticed they are building something on the site of the Norlane Pool. Is it a new pool centre or something else?

                    • @try2bhelpful: So apparently is cheaper to build a new pool than fix an old one. So that's what they are doing. Plus they built a new medical facility on the old Water World site. It's a great facility and badly needed in that area. Property prices are going up in and around Norlane. And they will boom when they start to build the business centres next to Avalon airport and in the old Ford factory.

                      • @freesteakknives: I think it is a good idea to rebuild the pool. We used to go to either there or Kardinia Pool for swimming lessons when I was young. hope there is an indoor pool bit as well. Make it all year around swimming. Glad about the medical facilities as well.

Frankly if I was looking at going out as far as Frankston or Dandenong for a house I would head to Geelong. It would be great if they reinstalled the tram network from the CBD to the beach area as well.

      • glad to hear!

15 percent per annum growth in property prices for at least 5 years before COVID and in at least one of the COVID years (i think 2021) it was 26 per cent. It's going nuts not just in Geelong but also around the neighbouring areas. More people coming in means more diversity as well. Tassie ferry now leaves from North Shore and more regular ferry services to Melbourne from Port Arlington and Geelong.
