InB4 someone says "Optus no thanks or Floptus". I get better reception than Telstra so I guess it depends on your location.

    • +3

Completely agree. Network reception is a total YMMV hence, to each their own :-)
I am on this plan since last year. Works out to be the cheapest with International calls included. Except for the insane deals amaysim gets in June each year.

      • -5

yeah agree. same as my mate hot young gf may not suitable for me.

    • +2

I went from Telstra to Amaysim and haven't noticed any real difference

      • I miss the voice to text. No one can leave me a message now, coz I'm sure not going back to voice mail.

    • +1

Telstra (boost) gave me 50kb with constant dropouts at home
Optus (amaysim) gives me 100mb at home

    • +1

Ive been on this plan now for 9 months and had no reception issues at all
Much better reception than Kogan mobile (Vodafone). I mean HEAPS BETTER!

And a warning to anyone thinking about this plan later…Dont wait!!!!

Its NO LONGER AVAILABLE on the amaysim web site.
      https://www.amaysim.com.au/sim-plans/12-month-sim-plans
More than likely will be removed from retail sale as well.

      So GRAB IT NOW!

PS You also receive SMS whilst OVERSEAS…You just cant reply.
And you have the added advantage of Optus Wifi-Calling where you receive calls over Wi-Fi (in Australia) when reception is poor,

Alternatively same Plan via Coles Mobile regularly on special for $99 (for now)

      • It is not available directly on amaysim website under their 12-month plans.
But it is always available at https://amaysim.com.au/119 as mentioned on the SIM Pack.

I love Amaysim! If you can hold on a couple of months, you might get a better deal when is Black Friday. I snapped up one of the $100 plans in June and got $35 cashback. Very happy! I also have a second esim. I just hope they’ll add 5g (but at this low cost seems very unlikely to happen).

    • We have passed June already.

And in the description it says 5G included?

      • Must be a mistake. These cheaper plans don’t have 5g. Of course June has passed, I was just saying sometimes there are even better deals if you can wait.

          • +1

@WatchNerd: On the top it says 4g Optus data. I have the 180gb and it’s only 4g

            • @fozzie: Ok thanks, I will remove it from the description.

      • +1

Does it matter if it's 5G when this 60GB over 12 months? Serious question :)
Great plan for low-data users though.

        • in specific patchy spot, you may have good 5G but not 4G, but this is pretty rare.

          • @OMGJL: Yeah, that would be unusual as 4G travels further and is better at getting through obstacles. But yes, there may be an odd location where this could happen :)

            • @SimAus007: yeh also depends on if there's too many users crowded on 4G .

      • 5G has limited coverage
Ive bee on this plan with a 5G phone for some 4 months and havent seen the 5G symbol pop up yet.

    • +2

You LOVE Amaysim? Calm down son, it's just a brand, not a person ;)

      • Lol

    • That wont be happening this year
The 60GB plan is no longer available on the amaysim web site
      https://www.amaysim.com.au/sim-plans/12-month-sim-plans

  • +2

    No 5G?

    • Not included. I think the more expensive plans might.

  • -2

Hi can anyone tell me I was with Amaysim before still have account do I qualify for this starter pack deal thanks.

    • How does it matter if you have account or not for starter pack? You can't use this pack to recharge your existing number if that's what you are looking for.

    • try a chat with Amaysim and see if they will match it? It works sometimes…mention the deal and say you don't want to have to port out and in again to use this new sim

  • Could I use these to run my Aus mobile number overseas? Leaving Aus for a bit but need access to my Mobile for 2fa etc.

    • +1

You don't need to spend this much, just buy this for $10. Confirmed here.

    • They don’t have vowifi

      • +1

They do! I just went on my phone and I don’t know why it was switched off. It says Optus wifi call.

        https://www.optus.com.au/about/media-centre/media-releases/2…

        • Thanks, good to know and will try out. Weird that it isn’t listed in their site.

          • @snvl: I think they mention vovolte which automatically includes Vowifi.

        • Huh? Can you use VoWifi as a free roaming option when you are overseas? Didn't know that.

          • @bio: I wouldn’t think so. Use WhatsApp/FaceTime/messenger.

            • @fozzie: That's what I thought, but the original question was "Could I use these to run my Aus mobile number overseas".

              • @bio: Yes, you can. Free to receive sms. They’ll charge you to receive phone calls though.

          • @bio: If it has vowifi, then it is free roaming for calls and sms ( as long as you have wifi )

            • @snvl: Nice to know. I thought it would still need to register with the nearest GSM/4G/5G tower, but this makes more sense.

      • +1

I'm using it right now with them - they do.

    • You can simply enable International Roaming using the app (Settings icon).

You can also get the extra roaming pack ($25/month from memory) for the duration you'll be overseas. You get some outgoing calls/SMS plus 1GB roaming data.

  • +2

can we get sms when travelling overseas? just receive (for banking) without paying extra

    • +1
      • oh okay so amaysim is good. i need to find new provider anyway so probably will get the 1 year options (too hassle to sim hopping each mmonth)

  • +1

also, if i get this, how long i can keep before activating? my current boost will exp in 70 days

    • +3

SIM pack says, "Activate SIM within 12 months of purchase."

      • Where? Have a $119 pack in my hand and nothing anywhere on it (or inside) saying 12 months or any expiry.

        • +2

Inside the pack, on the back, near the bottom. As per this photo of one I bought in August.

  • I see amaysim has a page for it but it's a bit strange they don't list it on the 12-month-sim-plans page.

Will I be able to switch to eSIM later?

    • +2

Yes. You can actually do during activation

      • Thanks I've been looking for an eSIM provider and this seems better value than the Woolworths one.

        • I think they might be the cheapest esim provider. You are correct.
Unfortunately Woolies it’s too expensive. I know they give 10% off but you are better off buying the separate rewards and then a cheap plan in most cases.

  • Can this be added to my current expiry and data?

    • Would like to know this as well , whether I can use this to recharge my existing Amaysim prepaid

      • +2

        read the post…

        • Says recharge only. Sometimes if you contact them, they will allow you to add onto your number.

        • Thanks. Sorry I just missed the sentence at the bottom line of the post.
I chatted with Amysim and the answer is a hard NO to recharge using a starter pack

          • @Gundala: Correct, just port out and back in again.

  • Would this be okay for a car sim? If not can anyone point me to data only sim that is valid for a year

    • Its a standard SIM plan. So nothing stops you from using it in a car.

  • +2

    Catch Connect $89

    • Amaysim has roaming packs with 365 days expiry. Catch has PAYG roaming only.

  • +5

    Waiting for this deal again
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/776176

    • Black Friday maybe?

    • +1

That didn’t include international calls tho

    • the 60gb unlimited is gone now, only the higher GB Unlimited plans.

  • Is there any more deala on 500gb plans with kogan

  • I get these at 1/2 off when they roll around. Keep my number too. JUst port out and back in.

    • What’s your chosen method of porting out please. When was it half price?

      • +1

Usually around May, at least for the last two years, as a part of EOFY Sale.
Check the May 2023 deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/776176
However, note that the amaysim half price deals are on their 12-month plans listed on website and are not applicable on the Woolies exclusive plans listed at https://amaysim.com.au/119 (i.e. this deal)

The main difference between RRP $119 plan (Woolies exclusive) and RRP $120 plan (amaysim website) is that the RRP $119 plan includes international calling to 28 countries (see OP post in this deal), whereas the RRP $120 plan does not include any international calls, the rest of the inclusions being the same.

The RRP $120 plan was on half price during EOFY Sale, but RRP $119 is not on half sale, the best you could get it is discounted at $99 and 2000 Everyday Reward Points.

        • +1

ooh thank you for your detailed response :) I like the international calls feature!

          • +1

@angelique008: Yeah, actually if you note the $200 plan on the May 2023 EOFY Sale, it was discounted half price to $100, and you get International Calls to 28 countries, and has 180GB (so, thrice the data).

Hence, it'd make sense to take this $200 plan at half-price $100 during EOFY Sale, compared to this Woolies deal at $99 :-)

However, do note that amaysim has now increased this plan to RRP $220 and data inclusions to 200 GB, so even at half-price it would cost a tad more at $110 now.

  • +1

    Coles, from Wed
    * 120GB Data
    * Unlimited standard international talk to 15 countries
    * Unlimited standard national talk and text
    * Optus 4G Network with VoLTE

    $119

I'd suggest for most people, its a better deal

    • someone mentioned $89 for catch connect but i cant find the details. edit
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/798948

also with coles do you know if i can activate later like 3 months later?

      • They regularly seem to deliver the 120Gb for $119, so provided they don't remove the deal in the meantime, you could grab it later. IIRC the general activation timescale is supposed to be 28 days, but I'm not sure if they hold to that.

        • hmm i just checked my boost, exp 27 nov, perfect timing just after black friday 24 nov

    • read the comments, has coles gotten better since 2021?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/661410

also like catch no roaming packs, only PAYG.

      • I'd suggest as both being Optus MVNOs - the practical performance between Amaysim and Coles will be the same (customer service could be different). Personally I've not had any issues, but I'm not trying to download movies on the service either. Wouldn't look to download speed unless I was also looking to 5G at the same time.

        • surprisingly you'd think since they're both optus mvnos they'd be the same but ive tried catch and had amaysim before, amaysim had less dropouts and a more stable connection.

          • @[Deactivated]: yeah agree each mvno will have different negotiation with optus and probably one buy less superior package who knows what optus offered

        • Amaysim is now owned by Optus

    • Yeah but 20 more and wfh means don't need much data.

  • +2

One to be aware of is that Amaysim do not support "Conference Calls". One can dial another person which puts current call on hold but calls can't be merged.

  • +1

5% off woolie gift card+1000 ww reward point=$89.05,and with the internation call&sms(catch connect has same price one exclude international). amaysim has a $69 special for this plan once a year, but doesnt include internation call&SMS(same plan but just difference from woolie store and amaysim website).

    • Looking at previous deals, gift cards seem ineligible to buy this, does anyone know if that's not the case?

      • Woolies gift card was not accepted when I tried yesterday. The cashier was not sure why the transaction was not going through, so I used self service and received an error when taping with the gift card. Transaction went though when I used a credit card.

  • +1

I bought a Sim then saw this post. Can I return it to take up this offer tomorrow?

    • good luck with that. As far as I know, sims can't be refunded

  • Still no 3 way call facility?

    • That's what I noted 4 posts above. It's called "conference call" :-)

      • I know it works on Boost.

Do you know if any other of the good deal prepaid with international calls do it?

      • It's such a shame, I just don't understand why they don't allow for this.

  • Slightly cheaper but with less perks
    Catch Connect 60GB 365 days
    https://catchconnect.com.au/home/affiliate-product/05b94af7-…

    • No International calls on that plan……

  • If you need more data the $149 sim pack is at $119 until tonight, which will give you double the data for only $20 extra

  • Is it difficult to get your pre existing number across to this?

    • No it’s pretty quick, i ported from lebrara to amaysim on a Sunday lol. I think before it more common to do it during a weekday but the porting time between carriers is pretty quick nowadays.. they do advise it could take 3hours to 48 hours for the port but the ports I’ve done has been very quick maybe within 1-2 hours of doing the porting request

    • +1

From Boost (on a weekday) it was close to instant i.e. by the time I stuck the Amaysim SIM into spare phone it had already ported.

  • I was on boost mobile year plan, needed to post to another provider and then port back to boost yearly plan… changed to Lebara but then I decided to try a cheap amaysim plane to try it out … my experience with reception has been 😑 so I can’t wait to go back to boost and telstra reception

  • Switching from Boost in the next month!
Can't do a family of 4 to have $30 increase each in this crazy period with the interest rate.
Any deal for the 149$ plan?
