meh, not bad i guess, averages out to 15.50 a KG, not bad for supermarket prices, but i think you could do better at a market…dont know if the supposed quality would be as good though…

buying 14kg bulk of meat and average price is only comparable to supermarkets. no thanks!

Yeah I don't have a deep freezer, and I doubt my tiny fridge can fit 14kg of beef. Pass!

  • Melbourne only…

  • Sounds ok but no room to keep it all

  • I suspect it would be considerably less than 14 kg after slicing and trimming.

  • I got one of these packs a while ago and it's fantastic value for the quality of meat. Apparently, this meat is destined for japan and the likes, but with the strong aussie dollar, farmers make more money by selling it to the aussie public.

  • only a bargain if the butcher wears a cape…

Most butchers will sell you beef or pork on the hoof for 7 or 8 bucks a kilo, sometimes less. Some places I've been to need you to commit to half an animal or more to get this kind of price but others are happy to do it for even a quarter of an animal. My butcher will also give me the equivalent in sausages or basic mince in lieu of wastage.

No, you're not going to end up with only prime cuts but hey, it's probably time you learnt to cook anyway, right? :-)

Agree with the above. In country Vic I bought a quarter side of beef at $8kg, side of lamb $10kg. Cut, weighed and packed to request. No disrespect but "Super Butcher" is just a wholesaler, there's no difference to buying from a supermarket.

Get out and support your local butcher, or go to a farmers' market.

  • not cheap, especially for the quantity…why wouldn't ya goto the Vicmarket & get to choose better quality for less money & not having to buy another freezer?

Clearly the commenters above think all cuts of meat are the same price in the supermarkets. $15.50 at woolies for eye fillet? Good luck!

You are getting some great cuts of meat in the pack above that would be well above the average of $15.50kg in the supermarkets.

The problem is, you dont know what you're getting. At least with the supermarket you can see the meat and make a decision. If I'm buying meat sight-unseen, I want to be getting a decent bargain for it.

      • And how can you really judge whether the meat is good when it's pre cut, soaked in water, and vacuum sealed in a tray?

Last time I ordered, it was about 2kg's of Eye Fillet.

The rest was pretty spread, I still think this is pretty cheap compared to Vic Market Prices.

This is my 3rd order from Super Butcher, been very happy with the meat.

    • fair enough you're able to compare both, I can't comment on the quality of the above.
VicMarket has around 20 butchers with varying prices & quality.
I'd be very surprised if you could get as good if not better quality at a cheaper price from TT Bros butchery.

As I said for the quantity, I would expect a lower price. But you're right it's considerably cheaper then the supermarket.

In my experience superbutchers quality is awesome. We got last weekends deal with the free 5kgs of spuds, onions and chicken nuggets and have been nothing but thrilled with the product
