Great deal. Most flights between Ocean and Asia nowadays cost 2k return in economy…

    • +22

      But do they actually…

      • +2

Exactly. Still $300+ at Jetstar when on sale. It's only a couple hours but people can do whatever they want with their money

        • -2

          No they cant

        • Shut up and take my money

        • +19

          Couple of hours?

          Da fudge you on about?

          Try 9-10 hours.

And jetstar is horrible to fly in for that period of time.

I'll pay the extra anyday with ANA.

Last thing I want is to feel tired and agitated on arrival for my holidays.

          Credit to Chaser:
‘If only my flight had been cancelled’, Wagner boss regrets not flying Jetstar

Military-for-hire, Wagner Group have been left devastated from the loss of their boss following a plane crash just weeks after he’s attempt military coup of Russia. In response, representatives for the company have expressed regret for his passing, saying if they had just booked Jetstar the flight would have never even taken off in the first place.

“Weeks of avoiding windows all gone to waste,” said the now former boss as his plane went down, “I did everything I could to avoid dying, but now in hindsight I see I should have prepared properly for my trip by booking Jetstar, where my flight probably would have been cancelled and I would be safe waiting for hours in the customer service line.”

“And in the extremely rare chance that the flight wouldn’t be cancelled, it would be so delayed that it would be impossible to time a ‘non-suspicious death’ attempt.”

“Plus, their planes are impossible to sabotage since whatever you use to sabotage it would be lost in transit and end up sabotaging the wrong flight.”

      • ANA economy to Japan is around $1200 on sale.

      • yeah what is he on about Australia to Asia is regularly $500

        • -1

sure if you're happy to be limited to 6kg carryon - not allowed to bring your own water, and have to pay for every little thing, etc. - oh, and last time we had a 5-6 hour stopover at KLIA2, we felt surrounded by dodgy looking local males who looked like they had their eyes on our bags and were hoping we'd fall asleep so they could snatch them. Apart from that the Malay food was great.

      From which Ocean?

    • +1

There's been a load of sub-$1k return flights to Japan in the last 6 months.

    • As others have said, you can book flights right now with about a dozen airlines for below 1200 (including ANA and Qantas direct)

Did Joyce give you chairman’s lounge access as well

A true Aussie company might considering returning some government bail outs when they make a 2 billion dollar profit a couple of years later ;)

      • +1

A true government would reduce the 9 billion dollars that qantas will bring forward as losses by the amount of the bailout.

      • +1

Returning government bailouts? Half of it was jobkeeper. Do you want their employees to pay that back? The other half was the government using Qantas services for charter flights.

This garbage rhetoric has to stop.

Do people not realise that their superannuation is tied to the performance of all of the things that they rage about? Property prices, large corporations, interest rates….

    • Imagine being patriotic 🤢

    • What's so great about true Aussie. What's wrong with half half

  • tempting

  • Very tempting. Was going to go in March anyway.

    Hmmmmm.

    • Check the price of accommodation in March.

      • I'm planning on going during March and will start researching this weekend, but curious to know - do u say this because accommodation in March is very $$$?

        • +1

Yes. Sakura season, very busy time.

        • +6

Most Japanese hotels only release rooms for booking about 3 months ahead. So if you look on international booking sites now for March 2024, most places will appear to have no rooms available. This apparent scarcity means the very few places that do release room bookings this far ahead can charge more than normal and international tourists might be tricked into thinking they are the only rooms left.

Wait until 3 months ahead of when you want to go and book accommodation then. You will get much more choice and better rates.

          • @mister_snrub: Thank you so much for this heads up! Will begin my research this week, but it's good to know this as I can keep it in mind while booking.

I wonder if there is a way of working out which hotels do this and which don't. I guess if a hotel has no availability 3+ months out then it's an indication, as opposed to a hotel having availability in say May/June but nothing for March/April, then they fall under the category of being sold out.

            • @eltito: FYI, I bought a return ticket to Japan around May this year, for travel period of 20th March 2024 - April 2024 (yes, bought nearly 1 yr ahead!). Bought what I thought was a good price back then for about $1k/pp by Singapore Airline - the price has gone up by some 250% now).

I also started browsing for hotels back then, which was not difficult but just did as mentioned previously, a lot of hotels don't post their availabilities until 3-6mo prior. I suspected that Spring is peak season for travelling in Japan, so I wanted to book ahead. I found Booking.com and Agoda showed availabilities of hotels even when their official websites don't (yet), so I booked most of them through these agents ENSURING that free cancellation is included (note: this option may cost a bit more). This gave me the peace of mind of having a place to stay during the busy period, while still keeping an eye on other better deal(s) if there is any.

To date, I have only cancelled one of my bookings with them as I found another place of good value (which only came up 1.5 months after I booked) in my ideal location. I'll be hopping to 6 different areas throughout Japan and have all accommodations booked - some through the above agents and others via official website.

4.5 months on, I now still browse through these sites and found that most accommodations have either gone up in price quite a bit or sold out (ones that were showing vacancies a yr in advance). In saying this, though, there is a slightly larger no. of accommodations showing up compared to before. So in a way, booking in advance (most of the time) is the way to go for peak seasons, tho making sure that you have the flexibility to change or cancel is also as important.

Note: the cherry blossom forecast came out a month after I purchased the ticket and I was surprised to have selected the right dates (tbh I selected the days where the flight tickets were cheapest at the time). After the forecast came out, nearly all flights increased their prices for that period (very lucky! but I'm dreading the crowd already)!

              • @dongkat: You paid 1k for a return business ticket pp? This deal is for business class

                • @nigel deborah: I wish it was Business class!

But gosh no, I forgot to mention it earlier, sorry >_<
I was just commenting on booking hotels in advance during for March next year, which is peak travel period for Japan (cherry blossom). $1k pp return Economy on SQ, it was "on sale" at the time, and going from Perth it wasn't a bad deal considering Easter and Term 1 school holiday also fall within my travel period.
One day… when the kids grow up (or I've managed to save up FF points, whichever's first) I'd love to experience a Business class flight!

Sydney does not need cheap flights, look at their property prices ! Those can afford to live there must be earning really good money whereas we need Japanese airlines to operate from Brisbane PLEASE to make it comfortable and affordable to travel to Japan !!! :)

    • Lol yaaa… sydney house owners should be charged atleast double for all that equity they have

    • Yeah the house owners will be immediately arrested once they check in Jetstar flights. There is a police team on duty in the Sydney airport watching for them

  • 787.and not the newer seats, blergh

    • And those lithium ion batteries

  • Nice to see a business class deal posted, but more than triple the economy deal is a bit too much still.

  • +1

I was ready to pull the trigger but the fact that these are completely non-changeable and non-refundable has put me off. Especially this far out, it's a shame the fares weren't able to be changes with a fee.

Regardless, thanks for the post OP!

    • Read the PDS, imo flights are almost always changeable with some sort of fee. A few of the Chinese airlines only charge $150 which is nothing considering price fluctuations.

      • Huh, the more you know, I'll check it out, thank you!

      • which is nothing considering price fluctuations.

Isn't that fee typically in addition to any fare difference as well or is that covered?

  • wish this deal was in January :/

  • +2

    Wish this was free.

    • +1

Free??? absolutely not. they should pay us

      • IM new at bargaining :'(

  • Any deals on Premium Economy?

  • Is it just me or all of them are $4000+ return? Seems like the deal is over already.
