Qantas' Brisbane to Los Angeles route is the USA's—and the world's—longest non-stop Airbus A330 service, ~15hr

    • +8

And with Qantas. Why would you do this to yourself?

And to the US. Why would you do this to yourself?

@georgev: Doesn't mean we have to set foot anywhere near the place. No thankyou.

            @georgev: Without Trucks Australia Stops

          • +8

@georgev: Lol! Empires come and go. The global economic landscape will just change and Australia will have to form another pact with those that don't want to try and do it alone.

          • -5

@georgev: How dare you state facts!

            • +5

@hoha99: Australia will survive without America. The issue is will America survive if they piss off the whole world.

    • Not that bad, ‘only’ 13.5 I believe

      • +1

true though nearly 15 on the return to bne

  • Search Oz-Hawaii return and Hawaii to LAX return. Sometimes specials line up and you get a few days break in Waikiki

Great price, but not a great destination at the moment

      Or next 4 years

Or possibly forever, until the people decide enough is enough and revolt.

Who in their right mind would want to go to the US right now?

Free return flights when you get deported at arrivals

      • Actually, they are required to pay for the deportation flight.

Don’t forget to switch out your phone for a burner, private your social media accounts and avoid layovers or indirect routes.

The orange clown is doing greatness.

They are all nutters over there…

    • +10

yes. remember that AFP can also take your phone and force you to unlock it at airports

      • I wipe my phone on the return trip, about an hour before touchdown. Screw having those overreaching pricks go through every facet of my life.

      • +2

They can take your phone but not force you to unlock it

        • Yeah lol, in their dreams.

        • +2

I've got some bad news, they don't even need the owner of the phone to rummage through…

"Border Force can use technology such as Cellebrite or Grayshift to scan the contents of a phone or laptop without needing the password. The owner doesn’t have to be present during the examination of the phone or laptop." Stacklaw.

That is also the software that US law enforcement uses to 'unlock' a suspects iPhone when they make the news.

          • @CheapandUsed: Wasn’t the unlawful iPhone unlock developed by an Australian firm?

But this time its Trump 2.0. Crazier than ever.

      • +17

You find it comical that people are wary of visiting a country whos government detains tourists for no reason (the new presidents government)??? Really?

When did you last visit North Korea? What about Afghanistan?

Seems that President Pooh Bear and the CCP get a lot more love here

          • +10

            @krazek: That's a false equivilance.

It's redundant on a China travel deal to say "right now I'm nervous about travelling there" because nothing has recently changed that would trigger those comments.

Whereas it is EXTREMELY recent that the issues are occuring in the USA so it warrants comment and potentially even warning people in case they didn't know (like you didn't)

Weird that call out the CCP by name btw given you don't care who governs countries you visit

          • +1

@krazek: "Ha ha china bad" is such an easy response hey? Stop deviating from the point you yourself raised. Do you, still, find it comical that we'd avoid the US because of the current President, his policies, and (drumroll) the verified consequences of those poilicies?

      • +11

I find it comical that someone would book a holiday for 7-8 months in the future to a country that is governed by a lunatic.

        • +10

People don't shit on Americans enough. He won the popular vote. After everyone knew what he would do.

          • @belongsinforums: I can’t blame most Americans for not voting. Either way, the economy’s (profanity) for them.

            • +5

@FujinShu: Not voting is giving up your right to vote. They don't get to complain and they're complicit

              • @belongsinforums: Just because I can understand their plight doesn’t mean I can’t say that they made a dumb decision.
It was an informed (for American standards anyway) one, though.

        • +4

          governed by a lunatic.

You are being kind to him…

          • @jv: Sounds like you have TDS

      • -6

Its actually great in a way. Nothing worse than going to a destination that is the "in thing" which is heaving with tourists. America has great national parks and when you get away from the big cities some really friendly people. Currency conversion is the biggest downside.

        • +2

He fired all the National Park staff, they are all closed.

    • You should go for 47 Days during his second term.

  • +7

Where's the free El Salvador transit option?

  • +4

The US people have never been friendly but now they are worse. I am going to Los Angeles but just for transit to Mexico.

    • +2

Wait, are there worst than Aussies being overseas?

      • +2

I guess you haven't experienced parts of Mexico and the Caribbean during Spring Break!

        • Those parts can hardly be considered 'Mexico'

    • +2

I am going to Los Angeles but just for transit to Mexico.

Ensure you have booked a ticket that does not terminate in Mexico (or any other country that borders the US).

Australian traveller strip-searched, held in US prison and deported over little-known entry requirement

      • +1

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that stupid rule. I used to live in Mexico and have always known how horrible are the people of the US. In my case I have a return ticket to Australia so I hope we don't have any problem with the fascists.

      • Why on earth would anyone consider visiting them at the moment? It is just madness over there.

      • It might be crazier now but in this case the person was entering the US on the visa waiver program, not transiting.

  • +8

Pfff no thanks. Rather poke my eyes out than visit the USA. Boycott them.

    • +1

Make sure you boycott everything though as boycotting things you never intended to buy isn't really a really a boycott. Get rid of a all streaming services. Don't buy anything Apple. Don't buy Nvidia. Don't use any Microsoft products (eg Windows). No social media. Don't watch any Hollywood produced movies. Don't watch any American sports. Don't buy Nike and other assorted apparel. Don't eat at McDonalds, KFC, Hungry Jacks… I could go on.

      • +4

Hmm, the majority of the things you list are actually quite easy to avoid (at least for me): I don't have any Apple products; I don't game (I just add them to my pile of shame); I don't use social media; it's easy to avoid Hollywood movies or American tv shows as there plenty of other foreign movies and tv shows to watch; I'm not interested in American sports; I can easily avoid American clothing and shoe brands; I don't eat fast food…

Actually, if I were to pick any countries or regions that would be hard for me to boycott, it would be China, Japan and Europe (EU and Great Britain).

      • I understand what you’re saying but it’s not like if you consume one American product it undoes the impact of boycotting the rest.

  • +7

US will put you into jail for no reason

  • -8

These America deals are bringing out all the Nevertrumper nutters

  • +3

    Mediocre airline, mediocre destination.

    • +5

I’d add “crappy” destination. It’s not worth the hassle to get into the US right now.

  • +3

Just remember to delete any comments you may have made about Trump. Don't want to arrive only to be deported.

    • -5

so i guess you leave your door open at night and are happy for people to just walk in and set up house in your home right?

      • +3

What does that have to do with US customs putting people in detention because they criticised Trump?

      • +2

This is more like a cafe that invites you in to buy a coffee then decides to lock you in the storage room and strip search you because they don’t like your face. I suspect the Google reviews for America are a lot of 1 stars at the moment.

    • This is about as bad as the National Security Law in China, and possibly has the chance to become worse over time.

  • only need a 1 way ticket if you are going to Chicago

    • +2

Have your travel insurance to bring the body back.

  • +2

With Trump’s tariff taxes a lot of stuff in America will be a lot more expensive. Better off buying stuff over here.

I’ve done a bit of travel in the US and I’m staying the hell away from it at the moment. Perhaps Hawaii in a pinch.

  • +1

Does that price include the tariff?😬

  • +2

AUD to USD dropped almost 4.5% overnight from 63.3 to 60.46 cents. US markets getting hammered which may push the Fed to cut rates, hence the stronger USD.

    • +2

The USS Titanic is going down. The cost of this is borne by the US consumer and there aren’t equivalent American industries in place to act as the alternative. Tariffs, which are just taxes on the consumer, only work if the consumer can pivot immediately. Just plain madness.

  • AA …. no thanks
