      110,000 Qantas Points

Yes you missed the title lol

      • -3

Just took a very long Qantas flight.
Service is fine now and super save.
But after price checking we ended up buying the ticket from a SA travel agent for a substantial $800 discount.
Qantas wanted $99 to join their programme. Sorry passed, My Krisflier is enough of a burden.
I have a Jetstar business login and despite what I see on this forum I never had an issue with Jetstar.
Next flight is already booked with Swiss and going via Japan.

        • +5

If you're paying Qantas to join their program, then you're getting ripped off. There are plenty of ways to get it for free. One is via Woolworths Everyday rewards.

          • -2

@teatea: yeah, missus got hers thru Woolies.
She does the bargain grocery shopping
            I manage bigger numbers
Maybe it is our country ANZ service, nothing really exiting.

        • I've never heard anyone actually pay for QF program.

  • +5

Yup, Out of all the Credit card approvals i went through, ANZ was BY FAR the worst. Took several weeks and so much back and forth on more data here and more info there etc. I havent applied for another card after that, i just got turned off the whole system.

    • +1

I agree. Was super painful for me. I only persisted because of the points.

    • +1

      ANZ sucks

    • So true, I could not bear to do any more applications for 3 years.

    • Anyone can confirm that. ANZ Rep, if you are here, pls listen and improve your team mate

    • Interesting. Such luck of the draw. Never had an issue with ANZ, yet. NAB on the other hand have been god awful always taking several weeks to do anything.

The westpac deal 90k for 225 seems to be a better card atm - I have 1m before my ANZ 12m lockout period is over, hopefully they improve the offer by then

    • How is that better?

You only get 0.7 QFF points per dollar spent on that card compare to 1 QFF on the ANZ

You have to pay $75 annual fee to earn QFF on Westpac

The ANZ card you can get $100 cash back making the annual fee $325

ANZ card gives you 110k points rather than 90k

      • It's $225 if you make an everyday westpac account which is free..

  • +1

Can someone give me an example of what I can buy with 110K Qantas points? Will it be enough for a return ticket somewhere overseas? Sorry for the stupid question.

  • My QFF slipped down to basic. Is there an equivalent for Velocity?

  • +4

ANZ was a nigthmare to deal with, they just kept asking for the same info over and over and over, we gave up

  • Worst approval process. Kept asking questions after question even though I met all criteria. Eventually I gave up and didn't respond to their further document requests…2 weeks later with no action…approved….lol strange

  • Is it easy to redeem the business class ticket using frequent flyer points than velocity or krisflyer?

    • No.

    • No it's much harder with Qantas

  • Not really anything special given the annual fee

  • Next on the churn list. Hopefully I get accepted with 30k total other CC limit (I think I can have upto 90k based on previous offers from other banks)

  • is it still worth if not free annual fee for first year?

  • Have 6 credit cards with all at their minimum limits… $18k total… should I consider applying? $160k income but many liabilities…

    • +1

Nice can I ask what job you doing to get 160k? Ok a flimsy PM but I get 130k 😬

In terms of your question don’t see you getting knocked back, your credit rating might drop a little but nothing bad

      • Hmmm, I applied for 4 cards in a period of 12 months (during 2018-2019) that all got rejected. All applications were basically for points accumulation bargains on this site intended for subsequent churning. I had a 40k limit at the time with income at 130k with slightly lower liabilities. FWIW, current Credit savvy score is 808 which never dropped below this value in the last 10 years..

        • Guess what, first time I’ve been denied a credit card lol and I was ready to buy flights and smash the 5k requirement too wtf 😒

We’re writing to confirm that we’re unable to offer you an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card at this time, based on the information you provided.

          • @prankster: Oh dear… hard luck. I'm still waiting for two of those rejected credit card enquiries to disappear, (as they remain on the credit file for 2 years) before I reapply for these bargains. BTW, these bargains are great to f$ck your credit history, unless you only have keep very few cards and are very disciplined on closing old and then applying for new cards. Also closing an old card hurts the credit score number more than keeping and lowering limit to say $500.

            • @megadeth: Damm that sucks it stays on your record for 2 years, guess I won’t be applying for any new cards or should I try my luck on a lower reward program? This was whilst 110k qff but there’s a suncorp one I was going to do (before this anz popped up) which was 70k for $178
              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/770947

The anz had 15k min credit limit which might have gone against me coz I have 3 current credit card that’s 10k total but I always pay back on time so don’t have any late payments so maybe this Suncorp I could get away with 🤷‍♂️😵‍💫

              • @prankster: I tried my luck but was unsuccessful. The four cards I applied for and got rejected were Citibank, HSBC, St George and ANZ. Last three were 6k min limit (that I applied for). Now need to wait a few more months before these enquiries get cleared on my file, will start fresh then. Think ANZ and Citibank use the same Indian team for credit assessment, BTW.

    • Can you close some of the cards?

      • Hmmm good idea… BTW, all of these cards have no annual fee and four have a relationship age of 10+years, three earn free points too. Keeping old cards open helps with credit score. The two relatively new for me are Bankwest (10 years) and 28 degrees (7 years) that I use for online shopping USD to avoid getting screwed on forex rates (by the likes of Amex, eBay, Amazon, Paypal etc). May consider closing Bankwest and keep 28deg/Latitude, as Bankwest minimum allowed limit is $6k as opposed to Latitude which is currently on a $1k limit.

    • I have 170k income (ex super) and got approved for a 60k limit when I forgot to set my own while already having 30k. So seems 170k gets you around 90k, 160k should be a lot more than 18k

  • I just applied and they are asking for extra supporting documents…

  • What banks are the quickest to approve?

NAB approved me in an hour, didn't want any payslips. Any other banks like this? I am looking for a low fee CC with Qantas points 50-60k points as it's all i need to hit Points Club Plus! I just want an easy process TBH LOL.

    BankSA
    Bank Of Melbourne
    St George
It seems the 3 above are all connected, but I haven't held 1 from the above bank anyways. I can't see a min income on the above.
    Suncorp - 35k

The options, all 60-70k, $170 fee.

    • Pretty sure, top 3 are all owned by Westpac

      • Yeah, can only hold 1 of them in the last 12 months.

      • Moreso they are essentially the same bank just with a different brand in different cities, whereas westpac is a separate bank even though they own them. So St George / Bank of Melb / Bank SA is the same waiting period to churn again whereas Westpac is a separate waiting period.

    • Lucky you! NAB have been the worst for me. Always taking weeks going in circles. I have zero debt and savings. Just lunacy.

  • +1

$400 annual fee seems a bit steep?

Also the same card was giving 160k Qantas points last year. Why is it down to 110k now…

    • 12 months ago there were a multitude of 100k+ bonus point offers to choose from. In the last 6 months there has been barely any, with most between 60-90k. Banks have tightened right up on these offers hence why this is one of the better deals around at the moment in my opinion.

  • Does ANZ charge a Qantas reward program fee like the other stingy banks?

    ah found from website, looks like its included;
"For ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, a total annual fee of $425 applies which includes a $370 Annual Fee and a $55 Rewards Program Services Fee."

    • They charge the "the rewards fee" for any points earning card.

  • +1

110k points for $325? Am I missing something? This is horrible value.

    • +1

If you use your points to buy toasters, then yes.

      • +1

Also if you use your points to buy classic reward flights.

Other cards lately have been $99-$150/70k points.

at $325 for 110k points this card is awful value. If I was paying $325 I'd expect at least 140k points.

        • Its not awful, but it is what it is. Fine if using for classic rewards above economy. Sometimes in the churn cycle a card like this is the best of what is available.

          • @Xizor: I disagree, there's plenty of cards offering 70k points for much better value.

Only reason to consider this card is if you really need the extra 40k points and are willing to pay extra to get them.

            • @mahdoo: Mate you are missing my point. Many people have already had those cards and are in the respective wait periods. It happens now more than ever with less good promos abound.

        • +2

Your calculation is off by 1 decimal place. It's .29 cents/point.

  • I miss the days they waived the first year's annual fee

  • Has anyone had luck getting their annual fee pro-rata'd upon cancelling this CC?

  • With interest rates ratcheting up, the criteria in getting CC approved has changed significantly. I've just been rejected twice in a row, albeit with a significant mortgage more or less offset.

  • +1

For points per $, can't beat the ANZ Rewards Platinum:
    - $95 annual fee with $50 cash back = net fee $45
    - 80,000 reward points = 40,000 Velocity points

    —> $45 gets you 40,000 Velocity points

  • I've just been approved for a nab card today and am considering applying for this card. Thing is, I'm also settling a home loan refinance (unconditionally approved). Will there be any issue or should I wait for things to settle down first?

  • How long does it take to get points, think of flying next month

  • How can I confirm my closure date of my last anz card?

Tried to call to ask but "due to current events we cant take your call" - nice bank that doesnt have phone support lol.

    • +3

The close date should show up on your credit report.

  • My last attempt at a sign up a year ago was a bad experience. They would repeatedly ask for the same docs, despite me having sent them, and they were overall not very responsive. I cancelled the application via email in the end.

    • That was a year ago, they're probably worse now.

      • +1

They're worse now. I had to send docs multiple times, took me 3 weeks. After approved, they ask me to verify my ID (while I used to have an account with them, not too long) but online system did not work so have to come to brand to do that.
And what's more, I got the card without CRN or telecode. It is require to activate online account/use the app -> cannot active. I had to call them AGAIN, and AGAIN. Another prob here, automatic voice asked for CRN or telecode to verify before I can speak to a rep. This is by far the worst, tbh.

  • I didn't get my bonus points…

    • When are they meant to get paid out

      • after first statement after meeting criteria

        • Have you received your second statement yet?

  • Does anyone know if you can use the ANZ app to make purchases prior to receiving the card in the mail?

    • Doesn't seem like you can.

  • Been waiting over a week now, how long does it usually take? They havent even contacted me yet to ask basic questions about how tax and super and leave work like they did last year after looking at my payslip.

    • Literally as I posted this they called me, and now I have to send them a letter from my employer because I have a couple days a week of paid leave. I really dont understand what difference it makes when its paid leave, I've been approved no questions asked for 3 other credit cards with the same circumstances.

      • ANZ are ridiculously beaurocratic. They caused me so much stress I could not bear to apply for another card for 3 years. How do they know you are on leave? Does it show on your payslip?

        • Ha ha, could be due to the approval guy has no idea about paid sick/personal leaves?

          • @timhn: Yes. I think they are in India and have no idea about how our salary and tax structures work and it's so difficult to explain these things.

        • +1

          Yeah shows on payslip.

  • Applied on Saturday. Called up today on Tuesday to check on progress. The guy looked through the payslips and asked some questions and an hour later I was approved.

Can the new card be added to Apple Pay to use before the physical card arrives? Was able to do that sigh the westpac altitude card I got last year.

  • Over a month of back and forth phone calls, submission of pay slips and still nothing. Previously approved seamlessly with ANZ on the same card and this has been a bit of a joke of an application.

    • Before you give up completely, try this.

Call up to CS and express your disappointment with the process will definitely get immediately attention with your application - if all your documents already in order.

Did that with HSBC and Citibank. HSBC approved within hr and a day after with Citibank.

  • So I just got my card but when I add to Apple Pay, it asks me to call the number to verify the card. I have never seen this with all other cards that I add to Apple Pay.

There is always an option to verify by SMS.

    • Same here - i reckon its just a way to discourage people from using apple pay to save ANZ from paying them their % cut

  • +1

I can not believe the absolute 0 IQ people you have to deal with to get this credit card, not worth the effort. They want endless letters from my employer explaining details that are already on the payslip. No other bank has ever asked for anything more than a payslip, because all the details are on there. Even worse than last year when I had to explain to them how tax, leave, and super work in Australia.

Submitted a complaint because I'm over it.

    • +1

These stories sound brutal. Didn't have any issues that i recall when i got this card last year. Ended up going with an NAB deal instead of this one and by the looks I'm glad i did.

  • +1

Isn't the ANZ FF platinum card better value at 195$ for 75000 Qantas points for churning?

    110,000 for 325$ = 338 points per dollar

    75,000 for 195$ = 384 points per dollar

    • Yea I reckon. Smaller spend requirement on the platinum card as well ($2500 vs $5000 in 3 months).

But earn rate is less on platinum (0.75 points per $1 vs 1 point per $1) but that won't matter if you're not a big spender.

  • Got my card recently but does anyone know if they give bonus points at the first statement after min spent met or if you have to wait the three months?

    • first statement after min spend met

      • ty kind sir

      • I never got mine

  • +1

    Well the saga continues.

Today I had to explain to them that a month isn't exactly 4 weeks as they were confused by the amount of days in my monthly payslip. Surprised they didn't ask me to provide a document proving a month isn't exactly 4 weeks.

But none the less onto my 4th round of providing documents, at least it's not more letters from my employer explaining how paid leave works this time, they finally understand after 3 times.

  • I spent 4k6 + 400 annual fee = 5k1 now. Is that enough for the bonus?

    • +2

The annual fee does not count as a spend to receive the bonus.

      • +1

Thank you very much. Just checked their T&C, they only count eligible transaction. I need do more to get it.

  • How long does it usually take for points arrived/ showed up on Qantas?
The statement didn’t show I got the bonus point like NAB.
    Thx

    • How many statements did you receive after meeting the eligibility criteria?

      • just first statement . I meet the 5k spending on the second day when I receive the card

        • +2

Have you received you second statement?

If not received by second statement, i would wait for the 3 month clause (which would be a month more for you after your second statement), then raise a complaint (not worth the hassle calling up ANZ imo, they give you the run around or tell you to wait the 3 months. Their tactic is to deflect).

Complaints are always handled seriously and diligently at banks.

          https://www.anz.com.au/support/contact-us/complaints/

Make sure to tell them they are misleading in their terms.

The 110,000 bonus Qantas Points and $100 will generally be credited to your ANZ Credit Card Account within 3 months of meeting the spend criteria.

Make sure the 5K was eligible spend (you would have gotten atleast 5K qantas points on your first statement if it was eligible spend)

  • Can't believe I'm onto my 5th round of providing docs now, been over a month now.
