Creality laser engraver and cutter

Been eyeing these for a few months for a hobby I'll lose interest in quickly no doubt.

This one popped up and a review site mentioned the coupon, brings it down to the cheapest 22w laser engraver I've seen, cheaper than many 10w with this special.

I've gotta sell something (surround speakers, telescope etc) else before I'm allowed to buy, so might as well share the deal, leading others to treasure I cannot have etc etc.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2023.

Could be cool as a side gig business

    • That's been my main argument to get it, have plenty of ideas, I think.

nice, literally just watched some woodworking videos

But will I be able to engrave my name into the engraver?

    • +2

      Yes, with an engraver engraver

    what gifts can you get?

    • A reel of pla or a t shirt. One of each or two of either

These things scare the crap out of me..
I’d feel better if it was fully enclosed

    • +1

looks like you can buy some enclosures for it with an exhaust pipe

      • I actually have a 5W makeblock laser cutter kit I haven’t built yet. For the same reason

should be stickied on any laser deal

any impulse decisions I had to buy disappeared after watching

      • Yeah, nah.
I’ll just stick to my 3d printer

        • I hope that 3d printer isn't connected to the cloud.
3D printers printing without consent is a cautionary tale on cloud reliance.

            @mathew42: Yes I have a P1P.
Still the best printer ever, I can disconnect it via UniFi or turn it off via Meross smart plug.

At the end of the day Bambu have stepped up and owned their mistake, vowing to fix it and replace and broken printer parts.

That’s more then creality has ever thought about doing

@Commodore64: Still keen on a bambu to replace my anycubic mega

              This shows great customer service

              • @impoze: You won’t regret it.
I’m done with DIY printers and half baked kits. At least until I specifically want to mess around.
Having a printer that you can actually rely on is amazing

                • @Commodore64: Yeah, I've got my printer at a point that im not messing around with it, never have to level or change things around.

                  Might wait for black friday

@Commodore64: I agree we upgraded from some cheap $99 3D printer to a Bambu X1-Carbon with AMS unit and simply it just works.

I also agree that Bambu's response was excellent and does give me confidence that i've made the right decision.

      • Video is a great explanation of the issues arising with the laser cutters.

As with any tool, ppe is a must. And if something feels off, stop. Alas many people are shoot first ask later…

  • Would these be ok to cut paper or is it overkill.

    • Yeah, it's over kill.

If you're just after paper, card board, vinyl cutting, have a look at the cricut.

  • seriously thinking of getting this one but also considering xtool D1 pro 20w. how do they compare?

    • +2

The link you gave shows the xtool is about ~1500aud, so a chunk more money.

Those extra funds can be spent in extras for this one, ie honeycomb under lay for cutting things cleaner, enclosure, rotary attachment.

As far as actual 1 to 1 they are much of a muchness, both use same software, and some stuff made by the company.
Cutting is practically identical, spot size very similar, both a large companies, so would assume support be similar. Safety features a similar (there's a link further up by makers muse, watch it, and dont become relaxed around a laser, ever)

For the most part, they will give identical results in engraving and cutting.
