PNY GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Verto 12G Graphics Card $1,144.00 + Shipping ($0 Pick-up/ in-Store) @ MSY

190

Stock levels seems decent across all stores. Part of their Father's day sale.

Personally I have almost no understanding of whether this is a good price point or if it is still overpriced as I haven't been keeping track, but since I'm looking to upgrade sometime closer to Black Friday, it seems comparable to the costs of other 4070s in the market right now.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2023.

Pay extra for the better one?

    • +3

I think nearly anyone would be hard pressed to tell the difference between two cards with the same GPU as long as they get the basics right.

      • +1

Cooling can make a significant difference in some cases, at least to noise levels. No idea in this case though.

        • +2

It can, but the 40 series from 4070Ti onward are reportedly absurdly over-designed for their power draw.

  • +10

that's good buying historically though been waiting for < $1000 for Ti. HODL!

    • -1

      same here

    • I got my MSI 4070ti last CA eBay deal for $1100 and sold my Diablo code for $60 so almost at $1k lol

  • +3

With the way nVidia and AMD are going, this might be peak performance/value for a few years at least

  • +1

Still running a 2080 Super which is barely getting by - butt he current gen cards are still so expensive :-(

    • +1

having a base 2080 here. I dont feel like the card's struggling though. Or are you playing in 4k?

      • Would have to be 4k without DLSS at 144hz for that card to struggle

      • +2

Maybe not struggling, but I do flight simming exclusively with it, and I'm not getting the graphical quality that I'd like.

Centrecom has this for $1155, not that I'm advocating for Centrecom, is this really a deal?

    • Yes if you need it.

  • Crazy prices. Bought me a used 6800XT for $600 to tie me over.

Imagine paying this much for 12GB vram. You'll be regretting it pretty soon.

    • that's a great price. where'd u find such good deal, gumtree or fb?

      • +2

        ebay

      • +1

I paid $570 for mine from metrocom (ebay sales) aside from one of the worst packaging jobs I've ever seen the card looked close to brand new (ex-mining).

    • Unfortunately I need a CUDA enabled gpu and that means AMD is a no go. I agree i also think these specs for this price isn't good but nvidia has got a monopoly right now

      • Yep if you are video editing and doing AI then Nvidia has you by the balls

    • The Vram memes only apply if you are playing 1440p at max detail in open world games.

Most people are still going 1080p and the difference between max and medium settings is minor.

      • 4070ti is overkill for 1080p unless you're doing 240/360hz or something.

      • I hope no one's paying a grand for a video card to play at 1080p, esportsmen notwithstanding.

  • +4

3090 performance with HALF the VRAM, nvidia are literal scum.

    • +3

Nvidia are scum but the 3090 was also a bad value buy when it came out

Nvidia are obsessed with staggering vram specs though… my 1070 had 8Gb

      • 1080ti had 13…..

      • NVIDIA have helped build up the software stack for tech that reduces VRAM requirements, and they've had the hardware to do so since the 16/20 series. Microsoft took forever on their end, and now you're waiting for game devs to start doing the same.

AI might help alleviate the problem as well, but it's not an overnight fix. VRAM bandwidth situation will improve, but don't expect anything radical in terms of VRAM count for the 5070 and 5060 series cards, which is fine because people are still transitioning to QHD, and keeping that largely in check will mean keeping great GPU options in the USD $250-$500 range.

      • The 3090 is now 3 years old… 3 year old tech better than a brand new GPU. NVIDIA are forcing buyers to go AMD or second hand. A 3090 second hand is better.

        • Agreed it’s a much better buy today. It’s still plenty fast and has a shit ton of VRAM

        • I find that 3090 owners don't want to sell for a reasonable price considering how much they paid for them brand new. Not to mention that these cards had probably slaved away in the mines

          • @povogamer: The 3090 was never a great mining card, it was pretty much the only card that was available nearest its (inflated) msrp. Not getting it cheap now though since Ai has taken over high vram cards.

            • @JerraJones: the 3090 is comparable to 4070ti though not when you consider DLSS and Frame generation. Also power consumption is a lot higher.. much nicer ram spec though if you use DLSS then you don't need as much.

If the 3090 was $700 or less i'd take it.. though right now they are about $900 which is a pass. i'd take the 4070 ti for $200 more.

For people on about prices - which is fair given this reversion - here's some considerations:

    1. probably a NVIDIA refresh coming soon to compete against AMD's RX6000 refresh (think AD106 based) and RX7000 mid-range (think AD103 & AD104 based).
    2. Intel Battlemage in late Q1 or early Q2 2024 will compete against the 4070ti and 4080 at the top end of the stack but with better pricing (much like all the cards mentioned in my first point)
    3. RTX 50 series will completely blow away current price to performance, but 5070/5060 release might be Q2 or Q3 2025, and the lowest card in the stack will be the 5060 (probably >1.7x 4060 performance or ~1.5x and $250 USD).

My advice if you already have a 20 or 30 series graphics card is to wait for 50 series unless you are absolutely certain you need to bump up your resolution, have a specific need today that can only be meet by current gen graphics, or want to play a game at launch with pathtracing enabled in the next 18 months.

If you need guides for optimising performance on new games, Digital Foundry do great coverage on how to tweak your settings as part of their launch analysis.

I did a quick conversion. This card has been plateaued at US$800 (in US) for months. This deal converts to US$735. So considering GST etc this is good deal for THIS card as Its unlikely to drop any time soon (except for sales like this).
That said, there are lower spec, last gen cards like 3060Ti or 3070 offering far better "dollar per frame" ratio

    • -2

what the other guy above said - buy a 6800xt - same performance - $800 new
unless you want fake frames (dlss 3)

      • Absolutely agree, I'm assuming NVIDIA only, considering they are already looking at an NVIDIA card, whether it be encoding on card, ray tracing of "fake frames" of DLSS

      • +1

All frames are fake frames. Video games aren't real.
DLSS3 does wonders for perceptual smoothness.

1140 is a decent price, + probably over $20 for shipping, saw the card down to 1100 with free shipping to Metro areas a week back tho.
