New MiniPC running the latest gen Ryzen 9 7940HS Processor with RDNA 3 iGPU 780m. Pretty crazy performance from a MiniPC and well rated by most reviewers. Only downside is Minisforum / AMD driver support is not up to par with the hardware so definite room for improvement there.

Also has USB4 ports which means you can hook an eGPU to it and turn it into a pretty decent gaming rig if required.

Specs:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS Processor, 8 Cores/16 Threads > > (16M Cache, up to 5.2 GHz)
GPU: AMD Radeon 780M
Memory:DDR5 Dual channel (SODIMM Slots×2, Up to 5600MHz, Max 64GB)
Wireless Connectivity M.2 2230 WIFI Support (Wi-Fi 6E, BlueTooth 5.3)

Audio Output: HDMI ×2, Audio Jack ×1
Peripherals Interface: RJ45 2.5G Ethernet Port×1
USB3.2 Gen2 Type-A Port ×4

Power DC:19V (Adapter Included)

This is a barebones unit which means you will need to supply your own RAM and storage. Storage wise it takes 2 x M.2 2280 drives.

The versions with RAM and storage are also on special but this to me is the standout if you can take advantage of other deals.

Retro Game Corps Review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V8En30psoE (Some people on reddit say he can be a bit of a shill for his reviewed products to look good to suppliers but the review itself is decently detailed.)

Pricing wise this comes in cheaper than direct from Minisforum w/o considering the added delivery charge + USD exchange. Also cheaper than the few suppliers I've see on Aliexpress.

Happy computerering!

How do so many of these random mini PC's and handhelds get allocation to Zen 4 chips whilst there are only 1 or two laptops?

  • +2

This pc has serious wifi and Bluetooth issues. Its a hardware issue. I got one and returning it to amazon. Search online. Wifi card is underneath ssd nvme. Blocks signals and wont be able to connect 5ghz

    • It doesn't have two antennas coming out of it?

      • No they r not. Poorly designed… read online you will know.

        • +2

          Just get these then

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/255807576061

Whoever you bought it from forgot include the antennas in the package.

          • @dyziplen: Not sure but as soon as wifi card covers with the ssd on top, it stops working. I am returning it. Minisforum aware of the issue

        • Any chance you can share your findings?

          • @virtual81: Recent bios update from them has dropped the performance a lot. They locked the TDP from 55watts to 45watts. Dramatically dropped the performance, slowed down. I am using external wifi adapter for Bluetooth and wifi. But would return in a day or 2

    • On their site, all reviews for this are 5 stars! Any other problems with this, their flagship?

    • +2

It SHOULD have two wires into the case for wireless signal

      • +1

I've rewired those and have them stuck to the top of the case, which is at least giving me decent, but not great wifi performance. Getting full internet speed, but wifi itself is still not up to scratch for local lan performance. Probably half what I should get on an ax network

Just received mine today direct purchase from minisforum, damn the wifi issue is so bad. I have to leave the back cover open. Undecided if I will just get an external antenna linked below or return it. Sigh. All mini PC's seems to have issues. Just had my nuc 12 Pro refunded by Intel due to ongoing issue with the thunderbolt port failing. And those nuc are noisy!

      • Enjoy…

U didn't try Bluetooth yet . Lags , skips, unresponsive

          • @Zeee: So far so good since I remounted the antenna outside. No issues with Bluetooth so far and getting around 500-600Mbps on 5Ghz Wifi, which is similar to what I am getting on a Lenovo T490s laptop. Weirdest thing is I accidentally broke one of the antenna from the point it's soldered to the sticker used to stick onto the case and the Wifi went from 300-400Mbps to 500-600Mbps. Now I am wondering if I should rip the other side off too!

            • @aarick: Do you have any video link of fixing it?

              • @Zeee: Not really as it's my own hack/fix. I might have also voided the warranty on it since I tore the antenna soldered point from the sticker.
But if you did want to give it a go as well, just carefully peel it off the case cover (maybe use some heat to help it come off). Then route the antenna out the bottom through one of the holes. I unplugged the antenna from the modem and routed it from the outside in as it's easier that direction. Then stick the sticker on the back where all the ports are as I find the best signal when it's facing that direction towards my router. I also avoided the USB side as I find it seems to perform better stuck on the side near the power point. If you plan to attempt this and have any issues, just PM me and I can try give some further guidance.

    800 for barebones…ouch

With Ryzen 9 it makes sense - the CPU alone costs more than some cheaper NUCs

  • Any recommendations on a mini pc that will get me up to PS3 and xbox 360 emulation for the living room

    SER5 max?

Tried steam link app. Over wifi its dogshit lol so dedicated pc it is.

Dont really want to spend much.

    • Instead of steam link, use sunshine + moonshine. Works like a charm. Be sure to use a hardware encoder though, software one takes a hit on performance

      • Wont i still have the same issues with being on wifi?

        • Hmm, i feel like there's something else going on, but AFAIK both sunshine and steam link use h264 which is heavely compressed, so it shouldn't use a lot of bandwidth. It could be that signal strength is not great or probably one (or both) of the devices are using a 2.4ghz network (5ghz is probably a must). I think recommendation is 10-20Mbps for 1080, so that's pretty normal.

          • @[Deactivated]: Currently on 5ghz. But everything is just really blotchy and you can barely see anything. Ill have to look into it

I mean it is on a 75inch tv too so that probably doesnt help

            • @Fergy1987: Resolution shouldn't be an issue, specially because the steam link app can adjust the quality based on the available bandwidth (or so they say). I've used the steam link app in a 65inch tv with no issues (though limited to 1080p) in a quite complicated network setup. Maybe the connection is saturated or there's some interference? It might be better to invest on a wifi6 router perhaps if you're not on one already.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Running moonlight and sunshine has definitely improved performance
Getting little microstutters but i can at least see what im looking at

Been thinking of buying one but bought a used Mac Mini M1 instead. I much prefer a quiet machine which will sit next to me for a few hours a day. If you need a gaming PC mATX might be a better form factor, not too much bigger yet allows you to expand and has proper heat dissipation.

  • "Communication

Minisforum has fitted the UM790 Pro with a Wi-Fi 6E module from Intel. To be precise, it is an Intel Killer Wi-Fi AX1675x module, which only achieved average results in our test (6 GHz). Within the 5 GHz frequency area, it did even worse and came in last place. As always, we used our Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 as a test router. Alternatively, the Minisforum Venus Series UM790 Pro has a fast wired connection, enabling speeds of up to 2.5 Gbit/s."
