Connect it to an audio visual receiver via hdmi, I'd wager.
oh that's so handy!
Simple and straightforward explanation, even for those are new to this.
I used this video and I've shared it with my family member in the past. Goes into enough detail to get it all done
It's a pretty detailed video, especially with the remote control options
@Dan24 Am I crazy or the above video is something different. Or the theme of managing the server - Never gonna give you up.
Drats, wrong link… Sorry everyone, updated now
@blurastheycome: I'm gonna come clean, the initial question indicated a lack of thought/ research so I was mainly having a dig at them. The only advice I have is joy x off:
https://joyxoff.com/en/Also steam let's you config a gamepad to act as a mouse.
Playnite is also handy.
These are all windows and gaming based. There is probs better stuff out there.
@blurastheycome: Just did a little bit more digging, recommended Linux distro is something called libre elec:
https://youtu.be/dzUBAE6R2W4?si=RGZ0m6k1avwWsmLm@Dan24: I run libre elec from a USB stick connected to my Intel n100 mini pc, which is connected using HDMI cable to INPUT 1 of my soundbar, which is then connected to the TV using a second HDMI cable to the TV E-ARC connector.
Libreelec only runs KODI media player - but I use the KODI -> jellyfin plugin to then connect to my jellyfin media server - where I have 1080p content - it automatically syncs all the metadata etc. from Jellyfiin server. I also use the standard SMB network shares in KODI to connect to a different NAS where I have my 4K bluray rips (which I only ever watch/play locally on a 4K screen.. I don't see the point of transcoding to lower resolution / stereo sound on a mobile or tablet).
A PC WILL not recognise HDMI CEC commands from a tv remove control - however there is a workaround for that and there are a few make it yourself HDMI CEC to USB adaptors so that the tv remote will also control KODI on the PC as well.
A PC also WILL NOT support Dolby Vision output, only HDR10/HDR10+ (since it costs to licence the Dolby Vision and no PC software makers have paid for it as yet).
Hahaha, I recognise dQw4w9WgXcQ anywhere..
Wish they would make one of these with DP out, my Trigkey N100 doesn't seem to support freesync over HDMI out at the windows driver level, apparently only available on native DP for intel's onboard graphics.
I wish they'd make more TV's with DP in.
Hmm what would be the real benefit of this vs an 8th gen optiplex/lenovo mini pc? Obviously power consumption, but unless youre running a tonne of vms or transcoding constantly the 8500t itself really won't use a whole lot more (in any meaningful way for say a power bill) but will be a decent chunk more powerful still despite being older.
I guess brand new warranty is nice, though curious how people have found warranty for such units.
They're really, really small (can be velcro'd to something kind of light), do up to AV1 decode natively, and possibly the onboard graphics and hdmi chain, and wireless/bluetooth is better than some older mini PCs. You can get them with usb-c, multi lan, multi monitor too depending on the specific kit out.
the AV1 decoding is why I chose my intel N100 mini PC as media player, instead of an android device.. I worked around HDMI CEC not working with PCs by making an adaptor (rp2040 based controller). The mini PC is also super fast responsive and flipping through screens full of eye candy metadata is so smooth.
I have bought a couple of 8th gen units, recently a m920q. The lenovo type units have usb c which I use a lot, and also typically have DP connections. You can buy small add on units to customise display outlet or put in another usb c port at the back. My last unit has 2 HDMi and 2 DP, but I could change one out for a usb c or vga.
If I had a particular need for the interfaces of these Kamrui units I would use it but I prefer usb-c, different display config availability and some flexibility with m920q units in its pcie port.
But a recent issue is that MS may restrict the latest Win 11 updates to 12th gen chips. 8th gen currently run win 11 without hacks but MS keeps changing the specs.the microsoft dumping win11 on less than gen 11 is so that manufacturers stop making older machines. there are probabaly some that have old stock of some chips and this is just MS encouraging them to move to newer gen chips. doesn’t impact machines that are already on win 10 or win 11 and activated, just can’t activate new gen 9 or 10 PC. ot a big deal in the scheme of things unless you buy a brand new gen 9 and try and activate …
I'd say unless you really want that SATA ports and space for some HDD then getting the 8th gen mini pc would be beneficial. but other than that I think these N100 should be better especially if you consider new vs used aspect
Would this be fine to stream my main PC to my living room TV? or it is overkill? Is there a better alternative?
I use mine for streaming my main PC to the big tv via Moonlight at x265/120fps, and playing 4k HDR movies off that pc's shared drives. My older laptop I was using didn't support HDR or >60hz output so that's why I got it. The only drawbacks I'd say are: I wish it had USB-C power input rather than a wall wart plug, I wish it had USB-C and DP ports out, the 2nd HDMI port on mine is weaker res/output wise than the first one, there's no freesync support over HDMI, and intel's drivers for their iGPUs have been a bit awkward over the last couple of years - the latest couple of versions for win11 late last year / early this year have been a lot better, though. There are other N100/150 models that have different port combinations but I needed it fast. Note my experience is with this one -
https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CGZW8R5L
which I thought was pretty good for $249 at the time (10/23).
Any android based device is typically fine.
For sub $200 though, plenty of other stuff you can do on it/from it so worth it imomoonlight streaming from gaming pc to this on loungeroom tv works fantastically well (thought I use ethernet, not wireless).
How is this to use as a normal office pc doing teams meetings, word, power point and excel ?
Apparently not great based on comments in other ozb posts. The 9500 far exceeds the performance of the N100 and is only a bit more pricey
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/846400From my understanding, these refurb mini PC's far exceed in general day to day performance.
However if you want to run a low power server and transcode media, then the N100 is better. The 9500 deal in the description of this was even better
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/876809
Just get something like that and upgrade the ram! It'll be cheaper than the KamruiJust have to wait for the next refurb mini pc sale
Thanks but what you have shared looks like a desktop then mini PC and i am wanting a good mini pc which can be used for work and save space.
Ah if that's a strict requirement, then look for a Dell micro PC such as the following
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/862776
Often the micro PC's have the T variant of the processor which is more energy efficient but slightly slower than the non T variant. However even still, the 9500T is much faster than the N100
Its not for everybody, but the N100 is an amazing CPU for Linux, but there might be struggles getting Zoom or other specific software to run flawlessly. If youre just using web based productivity tools, then its amazing.
The problem with many of these mini PCs is that Windows Update often destroys the performance of these CPUs. If youre only turning it on infrequently, theres a good chance that a lot of background processes will step in and start running.
these mini PCs are great for media players, kiosks, torrent servers or clients, etc but not a replacement for an office worker running office 365, otherwise lenovo, hp, etc would be selling to their corporate clients and they don’t. i own 3 mini pcs and they are great for what i use them for, media player attached to TV, torrent client and server.
How many sata and nvme slot does this have?
This or the aliexpress one with seemingly similar specs?. Or are these all pretty similar just with different randomly generated brand names?
Specs wise same. Also eBay shipped locally, so it'll arrive faster and this brand seems to be popular around here on ozb too.
Here are some differences I look out for in general in the whole n95/n97/n100/n150 mini pic game:
- DDR4 vs. DDR5
- Soldered vs. Removable RAM and Storage
- Fan vs. Fanless
- Quantity and type of ports (usb C? audio out? SD card?)
- LAN speed and number of ports
What's the USB version on this one?
I clicked the link so you don't have to: KAMRUI AK2 PLUS Ιntel n100 Mini PC supports Ubuntu, Auto Power On, RTC Wake Settings and Wake On LAN. In addition, the mini computers desktop pc has many convenient daily interfaces: 2x HDMI, 2x USB3.0,2x USB3.0,1x RJ45 1000M, 1x DC jack,1x Audio jack, it is ideal for the business office, family entertainment, school, home social media browsing.
Thanks, I did check it but couldn't work out what version it was. Seems like the slow ones.
I am after 16G DDR5 with dual 2.5G lan version around $200, like beelink eq12 but it’s out of stock. any other suggestions?
Anyone know if this would make a good plex server with a Synology NAS? Thinking of getting the 1825+ if it ever releases and it's likely that it won't have hardware encoding.
Yup it’s a great pairing.
thank you
I have a n97 and a n150. Basic task they are fine. To be honest, it's probably future proof to spend $200 more and get those Ryzen mini CPUs
Tempted to get one of these, throw Batocera on it, and make it a retro gaming machine for my main 75" TV
runs up to PS2, Wii and Gamecube quite nicely.
how do you use this for your HT?
