Would jump on this for another $90 personally
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7917174050>>3050
this is 16 gb
My logic is ram can be upgraded for next to nothing, graphics cards can't.
1000% this logic
good logic
That has a better GPU.
this is vey good buy
It is very weak for the price / specs. Less than half a year ago these 3050 laptops were as low as $7xx. I actually bought a brand new one for $791 from dell direct with the same specs
The 4050s seem like they'd be better value for today's climate.
I check this site constantly and I never saw 3050 laptops on here for $7xx.
Desktops are getting cheaper but laptops are getting more expensive.
A year ago you would have gotten a 3060 for this much money.
I have one. It is good and Ram is 16 but I would wait but there is also a rumour about prices increasing.
Really need something under 2kg weight with great battery life, and still powerful also with a 15.6" big screen. These gaming laptops are "too heavy" in the modern days.
Didn't they have 3060-level GPUs at this pricepoint before. 3050 is a weak card.
I am planning to buy a decent workstation laptop for work related preferably Intel based as I run a few VM that can consume up to 96 GB RAM. I am not much a gamer but need plenty of RAM and processor speed. Happy to pay $3K .
However I do have a refurbished Dell Precision T7500, specs which I paid $900 over 8 years ago below are the specs
DUAL 2 x Intel Xeon Quad Core CPU X5570 2.93GHz TurboBoost 3.33GHz, 48GB Ram, 240GB SSD Drive and 2TB Hard Drive, DVDRW Drive.
I must I admit I am very happy with.
What do you guys reckon, should I just get a quote to upgrade the SSD + chuck in some RAM 48 GB TAM or upgrade to a more beefy Workstation laptop.
Thoughts or comments , much appreciated .
Cheers
Pjyou can surely get a monster speed upgrade after 8years with something new. CPU size/speed/cache, RAM speed, SSD speed, PCI speed etc etc all massively improved over that time even compared to old server CPUs (1x16+ core 5+ghz vs 2x4 core 3.3)
If you dont need a good GPU for gaming thats all very achivable for under 3k.
— Sorry saw you wanted specifically a laptop, harder but still applies. Can get some beast multicore AMD laptop CPUs now.
Thanks mate, ideally I would like to upgrade my beast to keep the Mrs. happy although I am keen to future proof it as much as possible.
I can't recall the name but there's a company who makes their own laptops, parts just swap between models like modules, batteries still available long after companies like Dell can't be bothered, etc. You'd have to do a search, ask on Whirlpool, etc to find them. Maybe search for "self build laptops"?
Anyway, regarding the wife… don't forget selling yours comes off the cost of whatever replaces it. Do they even still have batteries for yours? Mine is about that old and they haven't had batteries for a few years now. The battery in mine is only a "power buffer" now… (if the power goes off so does the laptop).
Looks like 6% cashback from Cash Rewards too. Another $60 off
Bing Lee deal posted earlier a better option?
