    Fluorine treatment

    Nice try, fed

    • +19

Flourine means non stick ….. regardless of brand names and green stickers, most non-stick is based on what used to be Dupont Teflon, with only a few molecular bond changes, hence they all have temperature problems, only non stick without temp problems is Cybernox, it a metal structure used in some cookware and armour piercing munitions …. good to 1000C

      • +2

Can someone enlighten me on the current stance on non-stick stuff? Aren't Dupont Teflon responsible for one of the worst health crises we're facing at the moment?

        • +3

I bought this one recently in Japan cost me around $30 if the non-stick surface is bothering you. $9 extra for delivery to Australia is not expensive.

It's always been and always will be a con as far as I'm concerned. Even though I babied the non-stick pan I bought it still "burned" brown in just a few uses. Even if they do "fix" its problems I'll still use my well-seasoned cast iron instead. I didn't use the non stick more than 10 times before I went back to the cast iron. I can't fry an egg in my "non stick" pans without it sticking but can in my cast iron frypan whose only marking is "Made in Taiwan", probably cost less than $10 when new, and which I found on the side of the road with a "FREE" sign on it.

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: I recently discovered the joys of a good cast iron pan. Better for eggs than any non-stick I've ever used. Sure, it requires a little more time (make sure it's fully dry, put a little oil on it after use), but well worth it IMO.

          The bottom line

Nonstick cookware is found in many kitchens worldwide.

The nonstick coating is made from a chemical called PTFE, also known as Teflon, which makes cooking and washing up fast and easy.

Health agencies have raised concerns about the compound PFOA, which was previously used to make Teflon. However, Teflon has been PFOA-free since 2013.

Today’s nonstick and Teflon cookware is considered safe for everyday home cooking, as long as temperatures do not exceed 500°F (260°C).

So, you can use your nonstick cookware on the stovetop at low-to-medium heat, but don’t use it at maximum heat or for hotter cooking methods like broiling.

At the end of the day, Teflon cookware is a convenient way to cook your food that is safer for everyday use than it was previously. However, research is ongoing on other substances used in the making of Teflon, and emerging evidence suggests there may still be safety issues.

          • +4

@Meeb: I thought PTFE is just as bad as PFOA, every time they prove something is dangerous they just come up with a slightly different compound which is just as bad for you. That said, you get some much of this crap in your body through other sources it's not worth worrying about your non-stick pan. I might be wrong though.

        • -1

iirc the poisonous part of teflon was the chemicals used to make it which dupont was just dumping into bodies of water at random because no one was policing it
The teflon itself is inert. Like how gold extraction uses cyanide but theres no cyanide in the gold.

        • +1

My understanding is that as long as you don't use it damaged you will ingest a minimal amount of 'the bad stuff'. Just living a modern lifestyle we are all full of that crap anyway which can't be avoided, the amount you get from a non-damaged non-stick pan would be a drop in the ocean. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

        • +1

Teflon is a Dupont brand name …. most non-stick is made of similar stuff …. most non-stick gives off fumes if over heated, it's just Teflon was first to market and other brands haven't been targeted when over heated as people have moved onto to other things to worry about …. even the stone stuff has non stick mixed with stone, and just had stone bits added, can't be over heated as the non stick breaks down, not the stones ….

  • where is that 58 days revision lol

  • it’s showing $52.30 for me

    • Showing $29.09 for me for Large

      • +1

ah when I open it via the Amazon app while logged in it shows the right price. Cheers

    • You need to be logged in (and have Prime)

No disrespect to current deal. But how it it different to this one (33cm BBQ Grill Plate for portable butane stove with teflon coating)

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Auscrown-Grill-Portable-Butane-GP3…

    • +4

Saw this before, it used to be $15 from the reviews. OP one has larger cooking area.

    • +3

460g to 840g in weight gives the OP's one better quality and heat retention.

      • +2

I have the Iwatani model on sale and also a cheaper one.

This Iwatani model is larger which is awesome as you can load it up and the cheaper one tends to generate more smoke.

  • Anyone find a good gas stove to go with this?

  • Can I use a bunning camping gas stove or do I need a special one for this?

    • +1

This item has a little indent that match perfectly when used with Iwatani stove, but it works ok on any portable gas stove.

    • +1

A US review says "This grill is much easier to use because you just place it on top of your gas stove."

  • Thanks OP, bought 2 for BBQ park with friends

  • I ordered 1 ! Thanks OP

  • Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm guessing buy the grill for indirect heat (better for meat?), otherwise get the Aburi for direct heat for things like prawns, veggies, etc.?

  • Isn't aluminum in cookware not that good for your health?

    • +3

Straight Aluminium is fine (the Alzhiemer's study was debunked ages ago). The non-stick coating on a lot of Al products is looking not to be so fine.

  • +1

Just like gas fired Korean BBQ restaurants, I don't get the difference between using this and a frying/griddle pan.

Now, charcoal BBQ grill, that's a real Korean BBQ.

I felt so ripped off when I went to a Korean BBQ restaurant which advertised Charcoal (with prices to match) and then gave us a fking gas BBQ stove.

    • I know exactly what you mean. I have resorted to a pan on one stove (for veggies and bulgogi) and mesh for the other stove (for cuts of meat).
Much simpler to cook with and clean etc.

      • +1

How do you cook with mesh on the stove without making a huge mess?

        • Sorry i meant to say portable gas stove ( i have the Iwatani attachment for that )

          https://www.amazon.com.au/Iwatani-Korean-Cookware-Aburi-Stov…

          • @Kassdabass: That looks quite good. Does the meat get charred from the flames?

Do you cook outside or inside?

            • +1

@JimB: We use it outside as we usually have some wagyu and that can put too much of a smell into the house.
It def can sear it well but you need to make sure your gas stove is working at maximum. (mine was damaged due to lighting up coals in the chimney on it.

  • Good deal. Just hoping for a good iwatani gas stove deal now.

  • +1

Im waiting for this deal to come back

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/715540

    • I'm waiting for something similar, the Iwatani 35fw

      • +1

How much is yours?? and is it more powerful than the one I listed. I'm looking for one that is high heat to do Chinese stir fry and wok hei

        • It was $128.15 last time it was on special. A bit more powerful than the one you listed with 14000 BTU.

Here's the link to the previous deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/751930

          • @oblivianz: Thanks, I might get that one too.

But doesn't sound promising when we haven't seen that deal again since January

  • +1
    • Would be interested to see real owners' comments on its non-stick ability. I don't believe it is really non-stick despite what is said in the description and unless your meat is not marinated at all, otherwise after the 1st batch you will have great difficultiy in scrapping the burnt bits off.

      • Simple, coat with oil first before the meat

        • You can try it, it won't work because I did that before unless the meat is not marinated.

          • @sistermay: I always have a big question mark how they wash the burnt stainless steel plate in Korean BBQ restaurants? They may use chemical or high water pressure to wash , who knows ?

            • +1

@tztong: I used to work in Korean BBQ restaurant when I was a student, They soak all used steel plates in the water for a night, the kitchen hand normally wash them on the day after.

          • @sistermay: Normally, the BBQ restaurant gives you a piece of beef fat on a small bowl to be applied evenly on the plate once it get hot before the meat.

      • I've had this for about 8mths now and the non stick coating is still as good as when it came out the box. We cook a combination of pork belly, marinated meats when we do Korean BBQ. easily washes off with a soft sponge and detergent, and I give it a light coat of oil once dry .

  • Really good product. As it is non-stick you have to be careful cleaning it but it is very easy to clean with warm water.

  • +2

No longer available @$29. Appears at $54 for me.

  • i had a look on amazon japan, dont seem to have the iwatani 35FW gas stove , but there are a range of other models….
    https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Cassette-CB-AH-41-Portable-Cal…

minus the gas bottle of course…
