  • Sautese has quickly become my favourite pan to cook in

  • Damn, they don't stock open french skillets :(

  • +2

‘Tis a beautiful looking pan and would be a great way to get a copper base into my collection.

I invested far too much in Solid Teknics before discovering what a nutter the boss was, so don’t have a need for any more expensive pans, much though I’d love to.

Let us know how it goes once you receive it…

    • +3

Please elaborate on the nutter boss?

They’ve got a SolidTeknics Lovers Facebook group that he treats as his own personal fiefdom, regularly berating users who dare to ask questions or report faults. To the point there’s now a SolidTeknics Cookware Uncensored group - filled with fans who’ve been excommunicated - which is a tad more democratic in its existence, for anyone who wants to ask a question without first gushing in praise. It’s worth joining the Lovers group just to witness the dummy spits and frequent deletions of the most benign comments from one-time fans. It certainly helped me cease my spending on their expensive gear.

Don’t get me wrong it’s good stuff - especially the original 3mm stock before they dropped the thickness to 2.5mm and now 2mm lightning ranges which theoretically cost less, but don’t retain the same thermal mass and are prone to warping (user error apparently so no warranty). Even most of those who are critical of Mark Henry’s overbearing megalomania can appreciate the original gear, but its hard to support businesses when the owner is so unlikeable.

        • +3

          Haha wtf so good

          • +3

@when2buy: Yeah, reading both groups are one of my guilty pleasures. There’s plenty of fans in the cult who are equally defensive of the product and owner, but I wonder how many buyers he’s turned off over the years.

            Just my opinion…

        • +1

Yeah, that isn’t good people skills.

        • +1

Also, I don’t understand why they always use Kickstarter. A little bit of a turn off and I’ve also turned away from buying anymore.

        • +1

I also have many of their products including the original cast iron skillets they produced! They ran out of good ideas shortly after (worst being the large wok with a non-curved (angled) base which I also bought).

          Didn’t know about Mark’s behaviour!

    • I couldn’t find any info re. how thick the copper layer is, so it might be quite decorative especially given how cheap they are compared to other copper cookware with proper specs.

  • Haha fascinating

  • I have bought the five pan set from a myer deal several years ago - these are a staple in my meal prep and have not skipped a beat (despite very rough treatment throwing them through the dishwasher when I'm lazy which is often)

    • Running a pot through the dishwasher is rough?

      • Not great for the rivets or unsealed edges

  • I have the 28cm Essteele Per Vita pan, the normal kind with a long handle. It's really good, heats up fast, retains heat well, looks good, the only downside is it's a bit expensive, and really quite heavy.

    • I think im going to hold off for this one instead, don't really need a sautuese and prefer the longer handle with the gas top.

      • +1

Yes the long handle really helps with my gas stove. It's one of the few pans that I have that has a long enough handle that doesn't burn my hand when I turn the heat up to highest. Also it's relatively deep for a normal pan as well. Definitely can handle a dish for 2-3 people easily.

Boom. You're either the quick, or the SAUTESE-LESS

      • +2

It's the same, but the Shopback cashback tipped this one over the edge for me. (Note that you can get $20 off on first order with Victoria's Basement, but it's a minimum spend of $200. So you will need to add something else)

        • +2

Yeah, makes sense, but since it's OOS at Myer, this is the alternative option.

          • +1

@piiidx: Absolutely. Still a good buy IMO. Especially with the free delivery.

        • And yes, I added Essteele - Per Vita 16cm Saucepan 1.9Ltr (Made in Italy) to meet the $200 minimum for the $20 discount. Free shipping as well
          Thanks!

          • @piiidx: Gorgeous! I grabbed the 5 piece set from Kitchen Warehouse for $340 last weekend, just waiting for delivery still.

  • Hmm… Although I'm inclined to say Esteele is pretty good, I had one of their Diamond line of nonstick pans (when I still used them) and the handle failed in 3 months. It got loose like a typical annoying loose-y handle thing that also rattles.

    • Apparently the warranty on these is crazy good, so I hope you lodged a claim.

      • +1

Wished I had known at the time. I bought it from Myer and certainly would've lodged a claim.

  • Love ours, just hate not being able to put them in the dishwasher. Usually end up doing the dishes (loading dishwasher) 5 days in a row and the pans are always sitting in the sink and only get washed directly before use. I wonder if it's better to just get a cheaper option that I can through in the dishwasher, or maybe I just the Esteele in there and just see how it goes. Might be worth just replacing every few years if I can just put the bloody thing in the dishwasher. Yes I'm lazy.

    • It says dishwasher safe, but I'm intending to handwash regardless.

    • why can't you put it in the dishwasher? if it can go into an oven I don't see why it can't go into a dishwasher

      • Dunno, I read online you shouldn't do it. I think something to do with the layers on the bottom? shrugs

    • -1

      Has been pointed out friend.

      • Also $165 at Peter’s of Kensington, but no free delivery
Can also wait when ShopBack runs their eBay 10% cashback as well, but not sure if stock will last

        • It says free shipping in large red letters, and I didn't get charged.

      • -1

        And?

  • The diameter of the base is what deterred me from buying this, 22cm is not a lot. I ended up buying Essteele Per Sempre 30cm/6.7L Covered Sauteuse Stainless Steel Induction/Gas S, my favourite by far !
