as someone that hasnt been to the ekka since circa 96, how is it these days? Other than now having spicy flu and more mixed into the general pot luck of sickness that usually comes with this kind of event?

      Expensive.

      And yes, spicy flu.

I think the main difference will be the variety of food, which is my favourite part of it. There's lots of options for ready-made food, but there's also lots of small vendors for things like hotsauce, honey, cooking ingredients, etc.

They still do the woodchopping, sheep herding, horse riding competition stuff.

The end of the day fireworks/laser show is very cool these days.

Other than that, the games are still scummy, the rides are still expensive. I find showbags can still be fun as an adult if you have a look through the catalogue, sometimes there's things you wouldn't normally be able to get elsewhere. But mostly it's just candy and crap toys.

I would recommend going on a weekday (not the public holiday) if you want to avoid the crowds and lines.

    • Is there a code for that?

      • No idea, don't have a RACQ membership.

Requires your to login to purchase tickets.

Seriously 15% off is almost offensive to Oz bargainers!

If you get in quick, 50% is offered around mid-June and shortly after 30% is offered until about mid-July.

Of course, if you missed those 15% is the best you can achieve now.

And the Ekka is great value - a full days entertainment (I don't go near the rides or sample bags) & the night program in the main ring is fantastic..

    • We've enjoyed the Ekka these last couple of times we went. That was before covid and before when it was just the two of us. Not sure when we'll go again now that we have a toddler. It'd be a long long day with a toddler I think.

  • Where can you get 50% off in June?
