  • CC got charged but order didn't go through…Waste of time…

  • +2

just talked to a CS, they will issue refund. Not sure why they won't issue GC instead? We got charged after all.

    • Apparently the issue was at the Amazon end. So my guess is giftcards.com.au haven't actually secured a set number of gift cards (i.e. they were just acting as broker) and can now no longer access the discounted rate.

      • +1

Not true. Otherwise some later purchases would not have gone through. But they did.

        • Yeah I'm only repeating what I saw in other comments about it being Amazon's problem. Tbh I'd be surprised if that was the case (you'd like Amazon would be able to handle that kind of thing), but in any case, I'll have to defer to people who actually know the systems and what the problem is.

    • Did you ask them to get GC instead?

  • +3

Glad I forgot to set reminder at 9

  • Mines went smoothly with Wise. I received 2x500 cards after 12 minutes.

  • Anyone still able to buy at discount? It's coming up at full price in my cart but idk if I'm doing something wrong

  • +6

    Worst deal ever

  • +1

WOW, I thought this will last until Sunday like previous apple and coles Mastercard deal, guess I will have to buy shopback westpac lounge $75 one now lol

    • +3

Or wait for TA at Cashrewards

  • +7

Over 1hr waiting on the line, someone collect my info to submit a refund, more waiting for upper level to process the refund…. lesson learned, never buy from giftcards.com.au

  • damn this is a really short window

  • +7

I was charged once and received no confirmation email. I've just sent them an email and copied the Coles Myer Group CEO also. Appalling.

    • +1

      We all should do!!!

what's coles myer group CEO's email address btw?

    • +5

Useless. Just do a chargeback, it hurts them most.

      • I received a reply advising they’d refund and also hi or the deal as an apology.

  • To anyone wondering, best to call so they can send a request to refund you. I wasn't given a reference number but they said using your details you used to pay, they can bring it up. They confirmed the amount to be refunded to the card I used. Email confirming refund today/tomorrow at latest.

    • +10

Please don't call them folks. Best to do a Credit Card Chargeback to teach them a lesson.
Refund should be automatic for a failed transaction. Heck, it should not even get through in the first place.

      • if they're taught a lesson the offer may not be repeated again in future, or on a smaller scale eg max $200 purchase ($20 disc) or 5% off only etc
so don't go full exterminate on them =)

        • +4

I think it is just the quality of their software or their incompetent dev team and they definitely can do something about it.

        • Why not? They took the money. It wasn't an advertising error. So now they are legally obliged to supply the item purchased. Teach them a lesson.

      • How long does the chargeback process take?

  • Looks like the deal is expired.

    • +2

      No shit

      Expired 9 Aug 10:08am

What’s all this refund nonsense? Why don’t they just send us the bloody gift cards we were charged for! Its not like they’ve run out of physical cards - it’s all digital codes ffs.

    • -6

To be fair, demand from ozbargain is huge (and there are probably also bots) so businesses can't just offer infinite amount of 10% discount.

      • +2

that is not the case… as many like myself ordered first thing in the morning also when you have deal like that then in your system you automatically put a limit on how many you can distribute so if a user try to order after you reached limit then you don't process the payment and declained

but this moron takes the payment and tell us to refund application so no guarantee we will get refund as they are simply putting request for it …

    • same as you but remember they are putting request for refund so no guarantee request will be procesed and that is why i lodged disputed with bank as well…

  • $200 card ✅

    • Did you pay $180 ?

      • Of course. Wasn’t going to risk a grand rolling the dice whether it was going to work or not like other punters.

        • Having said that, some punters have won too!

  • +2

What a waste of time. Their site is pathetic. Fortunately I've had this happen once before so I only spent 20m or so on it. I tried to pay about 8 times but it kept failing. Very short opportunity window too.

  • +1

    Waste of time

  • +2

Got it at at ~9:30am. Received confirmation email after 1 minute and then the GC after around 25 mins.

Tries before 9:30am all failed (luckily without any pending transactions).

I redeemed immediately to my amazon account.

    Thanks OP!

  • +2

Waited for 2 hours on the phone just to be told, sorry we can't process it and you will be refunded!

    • Hi, what proof / method did you tell them about this failed transaction? I mean we don't get an email / invoice / reference number, other than "Transaction failed, contact Customer Support"

      • I have a screenshot plus they had my transaction details, Name, Credit Card starting and ending digits.

        • Ah okay. thank you so much, I'll give them a call now

  • I got a feeling they tried to learn from last 15%off apple gc deal (many people including me got multiple transactions while it was meant for max $1000) by limiting how many transaction can be proceeded on each card

But obviously someone from the IT department didn't get things all right.

    • +1

Well, to be fair, the business requirements tend to come from the functional teams which are generally outside of core IT. The captured requirements should ideally be translated into a proper design of the web app and also the technical design of the architecture. In this case, i'd say the fault sits somewhere in between the requirement capture and design aide of things. However, IT may be partly to blame if their operational team hasn't taken into consideration the potential bandwidth hit as a result of the spike of demand (due to the sale). Although some people may attribute this to poor network design. TLDR: Coles Group is to blame.

      • This sounds very familiar😏

  • Worst deal ever, for me missing it lol

  • +1

    705 upvotes lol

  • got a call back, they can only issue the refund instead of the gift card

  • Yikes

  • Charged but no GC

    • Same for me

  • giftcards.com.au is such a s**tshow.

  • +4

Same….charged but no GC. Waited 2 hours on the phone, told they had run out, but they still decided to continue to take more orders and payment. Reported to ACCC as knowingly advertised and took payment for a product they were unable to provide.

    • -1

there should be criminal case on coles on this as the system can easily avoid taking money if they don't have any in the stock but they not only took the money, then decline transaction, then told us that we will request refund for you but hold on if you decline transaction then what refund you talking about as transaction went through and if transaction went thruogh then why not just give the gift card …

this is big time scam by coles in my opinion.

    • +3

I also reported to the ACCC. I mentioned I’m happy to get my money back but I shouldn’t have to call up to get it, when their system failed.

  • I added 2 cards and went to Payment Page at 8.58AM, right at 9AM, clicked updated carts, got discount, and paid. Got card after 15 mins.

Payment came from Coles, will i get 3x points with Amex?

    • thanks for letting us know

the answer to your question is in this thread btw, just look for it

  • -1

Why does the original link point to giftcards.com.au but the link in description point to Coles? I can't see the offer in either

  • Also had issues when trying to pay - the button just wouldn't click submit to pay.

  • +3

They should automatically refund us instead of making us jump through hoops to get our money back

    • +1

They shouldn’t even charge if the payment is FAILED.

  • Had to call in to get my refund processed. Good news is the wait time is no longer 2 hours.

    • +1

Got through straight away. Crappy to miss out, but rather annoyed that I've got to make any effort to get a refund and that it needs to be "approved".

  • I got the refund email just now.

    It mention that :

We have processed a refund for $900.00. You should receive this refund within 1 - 3 business days.

Edited: I made the phone call to request the refund this morning.

  • Transaction failed. Made phone call. Waited 1.5 hours. Verbally said receive refund due to technical issues. Promo stopped at 10am. Process time 1-2 business days.

    • I placed my order at 7:59 WA time still got Transaction failed

  • Credit card got charged but no GC :(…. Shame now need to waste time with them….

  • Waste of time and money

  • +3

Worth the gamble but a bit stupid that we need to call up to get a refund - surely they'll be able to find payment that "failed" and issue refunds automatically/without request?

  • +5

I guess I’m one of the lucky ones that purchased successfully, so would like to thank the OP for the post

  • +3

Got my $1000 in cards for $900 fine. Thanks OP

  • -3

The trouble people are willing to go through for $100.

    • +3

I think the key is it wasn't meant to be much trouble…

      • -2

Except, there's always that element of risk for…$100.

        • +1

Risk is minimal paying with card. It’s just the cleanup which is annoying.

    • +7

lol, $100 is one thing… What I don't understand is the constant frenzies around the nuisance deals like "buy $30 amazon gift card, get $2 bonus value". As if it's even worth $2 of buggering around with the logging in, purchase, redemption, aside from losing the rights you have when you pay with proper currency.

      • +2

        Literally this.
The popularity of those chump change deals truly boggles the mind.

        • +3

I guess they are the same folks who will spend half a day and half a tank of petrol driving across town to avoid the $10 delivery fee. I prefer to waste half a day in the ozbargain comments section for free!

      • +2

Yeah I'm staggered by the love all the complicated $2 deals get. Either there's a huge amount of desperados with nothing better to do, or they're botted to the top deals.

        • +1

Yeah and many of them are millionaires apparently.

      • Yeah $2 isn't worth the time and effort but to be honest it was an easy 10% ($10) when i jumped on at 9.00am (on the phone whist walking). Must have been one of the lucky ones where it worked in a matter of minutes without any dramas.

  • Received the refund email 20 min ago, confirming refund has been processed and should be received in 1-3 business days. I spoke to customer service at 10.05am after being on hold for 50 mins.

  • Well good or bad I missed out, maybe for the best

  • +1

I just called Support. The total call time was 2 minutes 49 seconds, including the initial computer automated introduction. I wasn't on hold at all. The lady on the other end was super polite and apologetic.
That wasn't as bad as I was expecting

  • +9

Got straight through to Customer Service on 1300 304 990 straight away at 4:30 pm.
Usual story, expect a refund in a couple of days.
I tried to push for order to be completed but failed.
I asked if I would have received a refund if I hadn’t called as I wanted to advise others. The reply was that it is best to call.
I asked for a reference number for my call. Was told that this is not available but that all calls are recorded and if I needed to call again this would be accessed after I quoted my email.
I asked why I was not advised that my call was being recorded at the start of the call as I thought that this was a legal requirement. He didn’t have an answer and said that he would advise IT of my concern. Just another little issue for that department!

    • This is most of my experience with Flybuys customer support when I have to call them. No reference at all and full of made up story. I suspect it is same call center?

    • I also confirmed your points, call was recorded without any mention, and that customers who had their payments go through but whose transaction failed won't be automatically refunded unless they call.

      • +1

lol bugger that, i'll be going straight for a chargeback.

  • You can get through almost instantly now by the way.

    Press 0 for the prompt.

  • Called just now got to speak to some1 within 5mins they apologised then sent me an email… ended the call saying 1-3days for refund

We are terribly sorry to hear that there was a system error when attempting to process one of your gift card orders.

Please be assured we have passed on your feedback to our head office and management teams to avoid this from occurring again.

We have sent a refund request for $900.00 to our head office team for processing.

    • yeah got the same bs template response - although I had 3- 5days for refund

suggest you escalate this otherwise as a big corporate they're in no hurry to refund

  • +1

Got through striaght away. Got my refund. They said we all need to call as they wouldn't be able to see it. How annoying!

  • +1

Most on OzB know the nightmare and gamble simply buying liquor from the normal coles website.

Here’s another poorly coded, managed, administered site from the good people at coles.

Now that I think about it, Flybuys and getting points applied correctly and in a timely manner is another debacle.

  • Fortunately, the failed transaction didn't take money out of my account. Or as far as I can tell, at least.

Unfortunately, whatever failure mode the transactions went through still managed to bugger my card, which has since then caused it to be declined every time I tried to use it today.

Hopefully it resets overnight, and I don't wake up to find over $1,800 locked up thanks to this FUBARed deal.

    • I tried 6x times until my bank fraud team had to call me to confirm the failed transactions, I was like yeah it was me because Coles website keep f-ing up.
