This makes me wonder how Jaycar is still trading profitably(?) given all the competition, inflation, interest rates, supply chain issues and lower consumer demand…
enormous markups
I know they used to have obscene markups on lots of stuff back in the day (~2000).
Often, even with those markups, they still had some great value stuff, especially with speakers etc.
I hope they don’t go under, hoping their business is healthy and sustainable.
Jaycar and Altronics have been around since I was a kid, tinkering with electronics and HAM radio growing up. Dick Smith sold out and are basically gone but Jaycar have mostly kept to their heritage of electronics components, test gear, etc. It must be hard these days with EBay, Banggood, Aliexpress, Core Electronics etc around.
Other than electronics components (and don't want to wait for online order), can't think of any reason to shop at Jaycar.
Almost everything is home brand and generic stuff, most of the stuff they sell are cheaper and better elsewhere.

The Jaycar site has always been a disappointment, although it's better these days.
