  • I like these. I've had a set for a couple of years now. Trouble free

    • Do you get regular firmware updates for Tenda gear?

  • There's a bug with these in that uplink speeds are capped to 1mbps unless you run these via another router. I had issues with NBN HFC plugging directly into the NTD. These are not fast but work ok. Had 90+ devices working in mesh with 6 tenda nodes

    • Mine was even worse…. The uplink was capped at 0.1mbps !

I've seen this bug with their MW3 and MW5 series…
And as far as I'm aware, this bug has been around for years!

Fortunately… if used in Bridge mode…. They pretty bullet proof.

    • Sorry, bit of a networking noob here.
Are you saying that if I set these up as a mesh off an existing router then uploads aren't limited to 1mbps?
Does this mean that I have to use one of the nodes directly next to the router (plugged directly into it) to remove this bug?

      • These things will always operate as Mesh.
But what we meant was that it can be configured in ROUTER mode or BRIDGE mode.
I found that in ROUTER mode, it can limit to 0.1mbps upload, especially if its plugged into an existing router.
But if i use it in BRIDGE mode, if works just fine.

If you use Bridge mode, you must use it with an old router. The old router and the new mesh nodes essentially form a Single LAN.

          Legend! Thanks for the info.

  • Been using these in our apartment to send a signal down to the garage, two levels below. Lots of concrete. Works great. Cheap solution that works well.

  • I've got a 2 node set up and it's working quite well. the transfer feature between the nodes works well.

if you're needs are not high then these are a great budget mesh option

  • i have just done the fttp upgrade going with the 1gbps plan and have 6 nodes in total testing from the ntd direct to the node i could get 700gbps however the most on wifi 5ghz was maxing at 200gbps so they are not capable on wifi

    • maxing at 200gbps

What were you using to test the router's wifi speed, and what speed can that device achieve on 5GHz wifi?

Edit: never mind, this review found maximum of 199mbps as well: https://mightygadget.com/tenda-nova-mw5s-ac1200-whole-home-m…

    • Yes because it uses 5ghz for meshing and leaves 2.4ghz for normal wifi. I think you can have a few 5ghz devices as well but in general it won't work at 5ghz if you have a large mesh setup

      • I think there must be some other limitation. It says it is capable of 300Mbps on the 2.4GHz band, and 867Mbps on the 5GHz band. 200Mbps is below both of these figures.

These routers also support wired backhaul, so that may free up the 5GHz band.

Even with a 200Mbps speed limit, this is still a very tempting offer. I can't find any other mesh network capable of 200Mbps for $100 delivered.

3500 square feet = 325 square metres. Seems a bit low? I can receive my single 2.4GHz router anywhere in my 700m^2 yard, but with quite limited speed at the farthest points.

        • yer it is pretty good concidering and if i want max speed i just connect the cat6 ethernet from the PRIMARY node to my pc and gets around 800-850 so it still is a good setup for that price
