Please note that customer identification process can be painful. Getting 100-point is one thing but read the following:

EVEN IF YOU VISIT A BRANCH, the combination of Primary and Secondary documents must display/verify the following:
    (i) FULL NAME
    (ii) DATE OF BIRTH
    (iii) YOUR RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS
(iv) NATIONALITY (nationality only if the individual is not an Australian resident or cannot produce any of the documents marked with 1); and
    (v) PHOTOGRAPH

IF YOU CANNOT VISIT A BRANCH, please be aware that
    * AustPost is not in the scheme.
    * Copies of identity documents must be of both sides (where double-sided) and clear.
    * Make sure that you include the certified copies of your identity documents with this form. Faxed copies of this form will not be accepted.

    • Good info to note

To close your account you have to go there in person too and they have only TWO branches in brisbane and they are only open for a short period during weekdays only.

Prepare for the most confusing statements also. I'm not exaggerating on this bit too.

      • It could be confusing. But why don't you keep it simple like this…

        xx/xx/xxxx +5k
        xx/xx/xxxx -5k
        xx/xx/xxxx +20
        xx/xx/xxxx -20

        Total +5,020 -5,020 0.00

For those who want another $100 by trading stock, there will be five more transactions with in this month…

        xx/xx/xxxx - (buy stock)
        xx/xx/xxxx +/- (buy/sell stock)
        xx/xx/xxxx - (sell stock)
        xx/xx/xxxx +100
        xx/xx/xxxx -100

applying online is a pain with the required paperwork. applying at a branch is easy - driver's license + medicare card should work.

  • $20/$5000 = .004 * 12 months = .048 i.e. 4.8% p.a. interest. Only instead of applying unconditionally:
    * You must deposit a minimum of $5000; and
    * It applies only for 5 months.

    • Worth it? or better leaving 5k in Ubank?

Since it's only a deposit of $5000 a month, you can take it out the next day?

      • +1

Why do it the next day?
Do it the same day for maximum return.

        • Ah yes I mean same day.

So I guess it is good then. For a few extra work to get the $100.

Hmmmmm have to find closest branch which opens out of office hours

          Branch Opening Hours:
          Mon - Thurs 9.30am - 4.00pm
          Fri 9.30am - 5.00pm

          Hmmmmm sorta sux

        • Make sure you read the above comment about identification process to avoid disappointment.

        • Would a NSW Drivers license + Passport be sufficient? Both have photo, one has address only though.

        • I can't comment on that as I am not a representative from HSBC. I can tell you the problem I had before…

          • My bank statement shows Initial+Surname — This is not a full name so it is not acceptable.
          • My proof of age card does not show my address — I still need to show a proof of address even when I have 100 points altogether.

I had to ask my landlord to issue me a proper letter to get HSBC account opened.

          Good luck mates…

Should you have an issue with HSBC, please post it here so that other people can avoid it.

        • Might still have to wait 2or 3 days for the money to show up in your HSBC ac

you can also use australia post to deposit money instantly and withdraw via atm network (westpac, st george etc). i'm not sure what their deposit limit is. i've done $3k before

          much easier to transfer overnight using internet and lose 5 days interest all up - $5000 x 0.0571 / 365 x 5 = ~$3.91

        • Saves you having so much cash around I guess. $3.91 worth it? probably

        • I dun think you can withdraw more than $1000/day via the same ATM card though?
And if you deposit through online banking, the time it takes to go out of your bank to appear in your HSBC account would be at least a day? worked out to be at least 2 days every time you transfer in and withdraw it out. And with 5.71% Ubank offers, you could potentially lose at least 78.2191781c/day ($5000*5.71%/365days) it goes out and comes back to your acc.

  • Cool.

OK so open this account, then do the share trading one.

End result possible $100 - $150 (depending how good your shares go).

    hehe hehe hmmmmmmm

  • Is this for new accounts only or existing customers as well?

No thanks, I see enough HSBC logos walking along aircraft walkways at airports.

Something else people should note for this deal is that it takes a while for the security token to be sent out. Without the token, you can't transfer money back to another bank.

      1. I applied at a branch. Token was issued on the spot.
      2. You can get money out through DD (e.g UBANK) and ATM.
