When was the last time you got a treat from your bank?

Answer: About this time last year. There were some good discussions when the same offer ran last year. Too bad this is for new customers only.

    • +1

Indeed. I wish they gave these kind of bonusses for loyalty, I've been with Suncorp since the start of high school (over 10 years).

      • You should ask them to waive some fees for you, on credit cards, home loans etc. I find that banks get very accommodating when you call to to close accounts.

    • how long did they take to pay out the $50? 6 weeks is a long time considering that ING and some of the other banks pay it immediately for similar offers.

  • +2

Does Suncorp have any zero fee transaction account?

    • Suncorp Everyday Basics accounts are zero fee accounts.

  • +3

Good timing as Bankwest has burnt their bridges with me (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/76301)

How do people find Suncorp customer service?

    • same thing, i am totally done with BW~

    • +1

I was with CBA/NAB and now with Suncorp. I found Suncorp not very convenient. They always make things unnecessarily difficult. They will issue you a unique code for internet transaction. You can't change it but have to memorize it. You can't go to the branch to change your ATM password when you receive your new card. If the accompanying pin is missing, you have to ring them up and they will again send you a letter with the pin.

Also, you have to sign a deposit slip each time you put money in your account - kind of old fashion.

      I think BW is alright.

      • Thanks for that,i've been happy with BW for a long time but after a couple of recent less then acceptable incidents it's time to move on.

        • Just don't cut your nose to spite your face. I've been fidning BW pretty good for all my daily needs (just a credit card - 28 degrees alternative after getting majorly screwed by them - and daily account with them). Have a branch right near my work, and heaps of ATMs everywhere.

I've been with nearly every major bank at some point or other for a various account or feature. These days, can't find one single bank with all the features I want :(

        • +2

          What did 28 degrees do?

        • I can see what you mean however i weighed up the positives and negatives..my local Suncorp branch is across the road from BW and my closest ATM(Redi) is a couple of shops down from the BW ATM,My monthly acount keeping fee with BW was $6p/m limited to 12 free ATM transactions,Suncorp has no monthly fee and free use of their ATM's and the Redi ATM i will use has the fee's waved. So all win in my situation.

Don't do credit cards so no problem there.

Everyone i've dealt with from Suncorp today has been exceptionally helpful even more so then BW.

    • Close family member has been with Suncorp for over 20 years, very happy with service so can recommend on that basis. Having said that, customer service is a subjective lottery and often it boils down to who you get. With reference to your BW situation, even though they were dodgy in the bonus interest switcheroo the rep you got was quite helpful in offering you the lost interest.

    • Thanks

I didn't know that Rams was paying more

      edit

I read through the conditions and decided Rams isn't worth it, versus my existing uBank account.

      • Why not, very similar conditions, no? Plus RAMS does not restrict deposit size to 200k.

        • I guess I'm not sure if it's worth the extra effort etc plus I want to be able to my money from one investment to another.

If I move money out of RAMS, it loses the bonus that month …
Extra work for the possibility of an extra 0.04% per annum with a risk of losing around 20 times that … I don't like the look of it

    • Suncorp is great! Great staff at my local branch and i love it when i call the call centre i speak to a real person right away and not clicking numbers or trying to talk to a machine! A lot of banks have fee free accounts - but its the great customer service that keeps me with suncorp. just my 2c.

  • is there a term that you are not allow to close the account in how many months and whats the monthly service fee for this account?
i am now thinking to switch since BW let me down, thank you

  • +1

Other than everyday basics account, currently everyday options account is offering fees waived for 12 months if applied online.

Was with suncorp for almost 3 years,

They might be good in Qld, pretty average everywhere else mainly because of a lack of infrastructure.

    Few points to consider,
    Very few branches outside QLD.
Max withdrawal only 1000 $ coupled with a lack of many branches makes it very difficult to withdraw cash.

Service is OK.. maybe 8 / 10 . No wait times , direct reply by a person which is great.

In Vic, they allow use of Bendigo bank ATMs for free which is alright since there are plenty of those around. But if you need large amt of cash in a hurry then tough luck.

Charges are pretty steep for even small things.

    • In Vic, they allow use of Bendigo bank ATMs for free

      Same in SA
I've been very happy with Suncorp….

Just to clarify, they allow use of Bendigo Bank ATMs for free everywhere — there's just a lot of them in Victoria :)

Okay, so if I deposit $2000 and withdraw it the next day, will I still get the $50?

    • That's what I did last time!

      • can I cancel my account and do this once again?

        • Would that make you a NEW customer?

      • how long did it take to get the $50 deposited?

        • within the timeframe they specified. This promo is 6 wks

    • It seems you have to keep $2000 in the account for at least 6 weeks without any interest.

      • Yep i'm pretty sure that's what the branch manager said to me.

      • I think you can deposit 2000 and then take it back and keep account open for 6 weeks. That should work fine.

      • It doesnt mention anything of keeping the 2000 for the full period in the Disclaimer.

    • +1

Ok i just gave them a call and they said as long as $2000 is deposited into the account within 28 days of opening there is no requirement to leave the funds in place. But don't take my word for it call them yourselves!

Can I deposit $2000 by transferring money from another bank account?

    • Made fairly clear here imho

deposited to that account a successful external deposit of $2000 or more within 4 weeks of account opening. The $50 payment will be made into eligible, open accounts within 6 weeks of $2000 or greater being deposited into the account. Transfers between Suncorp Bank accounts (eg eOptions to an Everyday Basics account) are not eligible transactions.

i had a suncorp bank account last year & it was closed early this year.

if i open an account with suncorp, am i still eligible to receive this $50 bonus?

    • +1

It is not a problem. I closed Suncorp A/C early this year too. I've opened a new one last week and got $50 already.

The ATM pin hasn't arrive but I am ready to close the A/C :-)

  • +2

Made my 2k deposit on the 16/08 and the $50 bonus showed up on the 20/08 :)

    • hey thats good. sent you pm

    • Same here - made my deposit on friday and got bonus paid today. Can we close the account online? I went to the Roselands branch and got told a lot of @#$% about keeping my money in the account for 6 weeks, how the $2000 deposit has to be one transaction only, and I have to have a pay deposited into my account for 6 weeks in order to get the bonus!! Maybe she didn't want people opening new accounts? If this is the level of service I am out of there (after getting the bonus).

      • I wish to close it online too. But as fas as I know, it is not possible. You can inquire about closing account by sending an online message via internet banking.

      • +1

If you already have the bonus in your account just withdraw the full $2050 now and then close the account. How will they claw-back the $50 then?

      • Ring your bank and find out what you need to do to close your account. They normally require you to go to the branch in person.

      • If you are currently in Australia and still have funds in your account, please visit any Suncorp Bank branch to close your account.
If you are currently overseas or unable to visit a branch, please send a written and signed request via post to your Suncorp Bank branch. To locate your Suncorp Bank branch, and its address, click here.
        Please ensure your request includes:
        - Account number to be closed
        - Your contact details, including a phone number
        - Your signature
Instructions regarding how and where you wish any balance of funds to be sent. If this is to another bank, please include BSB and Account Number.
Once the Branch receives your request, they will be able to close the account for you.

        • Thanks for the links. Turns out I didn't need to close the account. Got the external transfer password by mail today and have followed Holysmoke's advice and transferred the whole amount online back to my other account, so balance at Suncorp is nil. Am not sure what Suncorp got out of it though apart from the promotion.

        • You don't really need an external transfer password. To get your money out of Suncorp account, you can:

          (1) direct debit
          (2) BPAY
          (3) withdraw at Branch/ATM
          (4) cash out at EFTPOS terminal

It is most convenient if you have UBank account. You can do (1) or (2) almost immediately by having basic internet banking access.
