I bought it a few months ago but tried it for the first time last night. The warmth on the lowest setting was really. There are a couple of very strange design failures with this product. 1- there is no timer at all, if you get out of bed and forget to turn it off, it will stay on for days.
2- the location where they placed the cord connectors is totally awkward. basically, it is right under your chest. If you connect the cord the way it is displayed in the manual it will be very uncomfortable because you are sleeping on the cord. I turned it upside down so the cord connector would sink into the mattress.
Also, I am not sure why they say it has a remote. The switch is literally connected to a cord so it can't function remotely.

This issue with the cord connection on the blanket is industry wide, if anyone knows of a blanket that doesn't suffer from this problem I'd love to know!!

        • This is why there are heated mattress toppers. The extra filling helps hide the wiring.

@ATangk: I don't like toppers they make the bed too soft and I need a firm surface. Surely they can make blankets that move the connecter to the side a bit so there isn't a hard lump near my elbows/chest?

            • @bwad: Get a bigger size than the bed

            • +1

@bwad: Well, the lump is almost off the edge of the bed, so not really sure why you're sleeping so far to the side that you're almost rolling off.

        • I turned the blanket upside down and feel a bit better.

        • place the connection at the bottom so it’s near your feet instead of the top near your chest

Does it automatically switch off if you forget?

It won't. Most electric blankets won't unless specifically stated
Just buy a timer from bunnings and set it to required hours. Upside of doing so is if you forget, it'll turn itself on and warm up your bed before you go to sleep.

      • The ones big w sell will stay on indefinitely too. I like it, don’t want to wake up cold. It’s 2023 so it probably won’t start a fire. I use it with a smart plug to turn it on remotely, and off remotely. These new fangled ones with little screens on the control won’t turn on with a smart plug.

      • false, mine has a timer from 1-9, 12 hours and different heat settings 1-9. mine automatically switches off.

        • Cool. Can never assume as such however.

      • The Kmart Anko electric blanket has a default 12-hour timer. Very convenient.

        • thats too long.. i guess 4 default is enough

        • Excellent. It also says as such on the website.

      • If you are doing that you need to buy a blanket with an older type controller that has a manual switch.

Newer blanket controllers with electronic buttons will not turn on automatically with a timer and you'll need to press buttons to turn them on.

The one we got from Spotlight years aho has a timer and swithes of automatically after about 8 hrs.

        • Can vouch for this, I have one that does also.

    • No.
Have a look at wifi enabled blankets as you can then schedule them to turn on and off

      • I use $20 smart power board

I can now ask google to turn on my blanket and set timer to turn the blanket off after 45 minutes. I also have schedule to switch it on at 5.30am if the temp is below 16 degree and this really help me wake up!

  • Club catch doesn't offer many discount now days

    • It's Onepass now, and they do regularly offer discounts of 20,30 or 40% over the standard price of certain items but they won't always be advertised.

they probably are but honestly they make a good use case sometimes given the poor house insulation standards.

    • I guess you don't live inland then, come try Canberra!

Do not buy the electric blankets with just 3 heat settings, very hard to find comfortable point, sometimes either too hot or not warm enough

the digital one with 9 settings and timer is better.

    • i agree with this because i own a blanket with this feature. also has a timer 1-9 & 12 hours, then automatically turns off.

but honestly the best is the heated mattress topper if i only have to have 1, but i have both blanket and topper. heat rises, so the heat from the topper rises and gets trapped in between me and the blanket.

    • nothing wrong with the 3 level one but get a smart power plug, i set the scheduler on and off every other 30 mins it essentially cuts the electricity usage by half and you don’t get too warm at night.

if the night gets colder increase the heat by 1 level and it is that simple.

      • Would that actually bad ?(on off on off) as with aircon when on it take big power? Probably different case here

        • +1

my single electric blanket is using 25W at level 1 and 35W at level 2. It’s like switching on and off your light bulbs …..

that’s also why it’s the most cost efficient way to get warm in winter
